Actually, the entry was completely legal: Kasia was in danger, and they had her identified.
Of course, an asshole lawyer could argue on technicalities (Oh, they wouldn't have
killed her!) and there will be questions asked about how and why Gill died, it will be hard to get the BOSS in trouble for the entry itself.
Steve wrote:The way Astaria has been written, I figure that concern over whether a slave is legal or not begins and ends with obvious bits. If a normal middle-class couple kept a clearly non-Astarian born slave with a strange foreign accent without asking questions....
That couple was simply ignorant of foreigners (and much of their own country), greedy and self-centered. They rationalized Maciek's accent away, satisfied they managed to beat the Joneses.

Precisely, life and limb, screaming child, etc, etc are all good causes for warrantless entry. Moreover the fact that she'd been given dangerous dosages of a prescription drug would only serve to give credence to the need to enter. The one thing that could be dangerous is the presence of foreigners on a raid, however it's unlikely any lawyer will argue that; the Gill estate is likely to be liquidated soon enough to pay for the reperations.

Pretty much yeah, also there
are legal slaves with similar looks and accents, e.g. people enslaved in the Border States before the invasion. Often times the local strongman could sign an enslavement certificate so everything was above board. This and the near total ignorance most Astarians have of foreign countries and citizens make things fairly safe. Seriously most Astarians are more ignorant of foreign countries than the average American.

Currently pondering fleshing out the early-warning systems for the IRT (and Svalbardia) since I saw Stas' nifty picture. At the moment, I'm considering something like:
FPS-118 OTH-B based on Tonkin, 360 degree coverage, with a small unit in Svalbardia to look over all of Frequesue.
PAVE PAWS. IRT has one to the northeast, with 240 degree coverage mostly covering everything from MESSamerica to the archipelago. A second 60-degree array to the southwest covers much of Frequesue. Another 240-degree array from Frequesue to the Archipelago is based in Slavbardia.
Missile Surveillance Radar (for ABM engagement). One in Svalbardia, two in the IRT

Shoot them in the head whilst shouting 'guilty as charged', eh? How very AIP. I knew people would come to see the world our way sooner or later

Actually, it's a paraphrased quote from the liberation of Dachau.

Seige Tank, the seige resolution was a bit silly, but still awesome. I'll call it the Call of Duty version.
It definitely was entertaining BTW

Result: At this point, I’m leaving it up to you guys to use this plot thread as you see fit. The gas cylinders are unmarked and cannot be traced back to San Dorado, particularly not when they show up on the other side of the world. So if anyone needs a lethal chemical weapon that turns people into uncontrollable psychopaths getting loose, knock yourselves out! I’m sure you can think of lots of interesting things Karic could do with the stuff…

Months later they shall reappear.

I'll admit up front that I was more interested in writing some over-the-top gung-ho shooty action than a realistic assault a la PeZook and Norseman. As for Call of Duty... Considering the last name of the Indhopali lieutenant, I can definitely live with that

Siege, you do realize that we've got ways of telling if a body is the right body or not? How exactly was the mercenary planning to get away with this?

Questions:
Does anyone mind if I let the Articles of Union Pass? (Creating the Federal Kingdom of Vineyards & Commonwealth)
Stas: Who shall I be meeting to accomplish my goals of spreading good tidings and cheer, and where?
FTO Guys: What is the Status of the ASFR? Did we offer them membership, do we have them signing up to any agreement? The same with Sabika and Omago?

Who shall I be meeting to accomplish my goals of spreading good tidings and cheer, and where?
PCIA Director Andropovsky, in COMMUNE-1.
P.S. Tonkins cover the MESS and Frequesque but can't see missile launches in O.C.?

Poor little Tonkins!

It's truly a tragedy what happened in Astaria due to shoddy unloading practices, since everyone who can tell the tale of the glow under the ship is now dead.
Shall we hoist a glass to the victims of this tragedy?
Which also gives foreign powers a chance to flood Astaria with foreign aid....

Actually, given how isolationist they are, they might regard foreign aid with extreme suspicion.

Poor little Tonkins!

PAVE PAWS + MSR

Yes, there is a gap that is going to be fixed.
OTH-B

I'll probably also have some more narrow-band radars like PAR facing the major threat axes (MESS, OC, Frequesue and the Archipelago)

Poor Astarians. Captains and owners of cargo vessels will now be more careful when parking their vessels in such a, uh,
remote place.
Phong, yeah, and you might need some Steel Yard analogues facing each of the possible launch sites.

Well, it's one of the 134 vessels that Veg says conduct all trade to and from Astaria. It was identified as taking on a cargo of fertilizer in a non-astarian port, and tracked across the ocean, and then identified at pierside by the T-4 reconnaisance. From there on it was just a matter of arranging an uh; accident.

I thought there are only 134 vessels flying Astarian flag... but if there's 134 vessels doing all cargo traffic to and out... Well, his naval trade was
just crippled.
If you damage around ~20 ships out of 134 and sink around a dozen - though to be fair some of them might be military vessels - out of a fleet of 134...
ouch.
I think my submariners just reconsidered. The more carnage, the better.
