As to the rewind: I feel it should be pushed back enough so that both are forced to fight with what they brought to theatre. That is, Beowulf will remained almost undefended. Sorry, but leaving only the second fleet free to defend yourself is asking to have your ass kicked.
There is, however, still a noticable Black Alliance presense that hasn't fully withdrawn yet.

Actually second and seventh, but the seventh should be tied up blowing apart one of thirdfain's battlegroups. And my allies should be showing up if they want to get anything intact...

That seems a fair compromise to me.

Thirdfain? My weapons platform is the same size as my mobile fleet bases, which are also coming along for the ride, mostly to prevent such an occurance as you being able to figure out which one is actually the real one. You should be picking up 4 massive objects. And the number of decoys is in the millions.

Right. So, four massive targets. Didn't know they were there.
OK, millions of decoys- but being as they are obviously small, missile sizeed objects, I figure that with some analysis it is possible to figure which signatures are coming from small missile-sized drives, and which signatures are coming from massive fleet bases.

True, but the formation of the missile decoys are going to interfere with each other, and on the whole make it hard to see exactly what's going on inside the formation. Plus, there's also the sheer number of signatures, which is going to make for a hard time on your computers.

Oh, thirdfain? Where exactly are the main govenmental facilities at Jacob's Landing?

The Jacob's Landing Ark is at the local L5 point, but it's just a tourist attraction. There is a governmental district on the planet's surface, in the capital city.
It should be noted that the President is not necessarily on Jacob's Landing any longer.

True... but that doesn't mean I can't just keep on blowing up stuff...

Stormringer, man, my fleet is in Hyperspace right now. It's not engaged with Beowulf's forces at all.

Ummm, correct me if I'm wrong but aren't you operating two fleets? One at least as far as I can tell is still at the shipyards.

Yeah, 2 fleets (well, there is a token force at the edge of the Corneria system playing chicken with 7th fleet, but it isn';t engaged.)
Both fleets attacked different shipyards, vaped them, and then jumped out.

Well, we could just say that Stormbringer located and attacked one of them.

Ah, okay. I didn't see anything about them jumping out in the post. Or maybe I'm seeing things.
If we could work out a compromise like Crayz suggested that would be fine with me.

The Fleets have already reunited, and are currently en route to the Cornerian capital with the Corsairs (though you don't know that.)
You would have arrived too late anyways, recall that I only began my attack on the PRC a half hour or so ago.

Actually, the Affront were preparing for this well before that attack began. And with that, they could made it in time. Or at least to catch you on the way out.

Force Declaration: I've mentioned them dozens of times in the past, but their exact nature hasn't been really touched on.
Commonwealth Brotherhood Militias
Every man and woman with citizenship belongs to a Brotherhood (a la "Go Tell the Spartans", a great book of military SF.) Brotherhoods are community clubs which perform a lot of services, such as local fire departments, assorted charities, that sort of thing. The Commonwealth donates a certain amount of money every year to each Brotherhood for military preparedness, and weapons and equipment is provided.
Brotherhoods are better than most militia, and contain a lot of former soldiers, particularly because a lot of Commonwealth citizens serve a tour before going to college. They run planetary defense guns, and are solid troops when defending their homes. They have Commonwealth flashguns, team-controlled mortars, HMGs and heavy flashguns, and antitank rockets.
They aren't much good on the offensive, but can be counted on to hold under fire and fight.

I've got to say I'm ambivelent about about the notion of tons of militia and them being very well trained.
Posted: 2004-01-17 11:34pm
by Thirdfain
Very well trained? No, not at all. They aren't professional soldiers.
They are not very good on the offensive, and are useless as invading troops. They are simply the product of the TSC's martial culture.

I figured that. I'm just trying to get an idea of just what sort of troops these guys are supposed to be. Something like a national guard? Local organized militia? A gun club gone nuts?

Ever read "Go Tell The Spartans"?
I recommend it, it's good stuff. They are a local organized militia, not a national guard. They can shoot straight, and their officers are usually former servicemen. They have no aircraft or armored vehicles or APCs. (though there are front-line Legionnaires on Coventry as well, with armored vehicles, APCs, and aircraft.)
