Unless you do a BDZ, you won't get most of the troops.

I recommend it, it's good stuff.
I might have to look for that.
Thirdfain wrote:They are a local organized militia, not a national guard. They can shoot straight, and their officers are usually former servicemen. They have no aircraft or armored vehicles or APCs. Okay, so something like the militias of the Revolutionary Wars. They can handle themselves some but they aren't especially good soldiers.

Exactly. Guns, some training, and the instinct to protect their home is all they got.

Uh, Thirdfain, I'm waiting for your reply to the hails in the main thread. Unless your diplomatic ship simply wants to sit there and repeat over and over that they want to talk with somebody in the upper crust.

I PMed you my request, mostly because I am gonna make similar requests to others.

I honestly see no reason why the meeting must be kept secret from other members. The only thing is that the rest of the participants need to play straight while we're at it.

...
To be honest, I intend on sending a similar message to each of the other Entente powers, and since I'm pretty sure not all of them will accept, I'm trying to keep each negotiation seperate.
Agh, whatevs. I'll put it in the main thread anyways.

Um, thirdfain?
What the hell are you talking about major destruction for? I hit three major cities and the areas around them. (very small radius, my main intent was to off your general.)

How would you know where my general was?
Besides, he was a couple hundred miles away from the city. If you fired enough to off him, you would be devastating quite a large area.

Ok... I'll just control whatever's left then.

Remember, you would have no way to know where my general is.

That's true. But an indiscriminate bombardment isn't beyond what those loyal to the new emperor are willing to do. (Think clark loyalists from B5)

Since I get the strangest feeling that combat is going to be occuring at my capital fairly soonish... I feel compelled to specify what sort of defenses it has.
Corneria itself as 10 seperate shield layers. Underneath those shields, it has numerous energy and missile batteries. In orbit is a constellation of battlestations based off the same design as the PRC dreadnaught, except without the fold drive, and smaller FTL drives. In exchange, it has a heftier energy armament, and more missile tubes. These battle stations currently number 20.
Also orbitting the planet is a moon. This moon had been outfitted with another 10 planetary scale shield layers, and the same number of energy and missile batteries as the planet itself.
The various sector capitals have similar, but less extensive defense systems.

With indiscriminate bombardment, the certainty of destroying one's target and the destruction of the planet it is on are directly related. In other words, you can kill the general, or have a world still worth conquering afterwards. Pick one.

Um, thirdfain? didn't I specificaly state that everyone loyal to the emperor was dead?
How stupid do you think the members of the coup are? The emperor's personal secretary would probably be dead.

That or in on the scheme.

Personally I think that Beowulfs defenses are overkill.... I was cautioned against doing such things IIRC.

I think it's because you were trying to throw them up in such a short period of time, when your power was in turmoil.
CorpSec has pretty powerful defenses, but then again we aren't much for offense. Something about not killing any potential customers.

No, I mean my original defenses. The ones I had before I was invaded. 2 shield layers and 2 battlestations, along with a field of unmanned drones.

And what better way to frame the TSC than by producing real life operatives? He talks to them, get them to help, and then turns them over to the coup planners and they have their TSC killers.

True, but you forget Beowulf's forces go for quantity rather necessarily top quality. From what I remember you were going for some thing that would have stood off entire navies with out batting an eye.

Yea. Remember, folks, this is 20 of Beowulf's Dreadnought-equivs. That is, on average, they're equal to a cruiser.
