What was wrong with AotC? IMO it was better then ep 4,5,6. If you ignore the romance.
Gustav32Vasa, I totally agree with you. AOTC dethroned TESB that had been my favorite SW movie for almost twenty years when it premiered in 2002. And it looks like ROTS will surpass AOTC (no surprise perhaps).

Holly shit! These really are fucking hi-res, you can use them as wallpaper, oh and a little tip to the others don't go and open one straight after the other just because you have tabbed browsing (like me), you will kill your bandwidth real fast.

And I think it's amazing how Ewan is starting to look a lot like Alec in this movie, good job by the makeup department.

*two thumbs up*

I'm surprised the Twilek is allowed to show that much cleavage. Nice jugs, though.

I like the Quad Turbolaser shot and Organa's roadster.

The only thing I'm worried about in this movie is that we'll see a weak orbital bombardment that will get the Trekkies riled up again.

The only thing I´ve heard about is ship-to-ship combat and a possible airstrike with Venators on specific targets in an Utapaun city. No real grounds for orbital bombings.

Well as far as we know, they are on a capture mission. Hard to get the people on your side when you destroy the main capital. Even Palps was smart enough to know you kinda have to have popular support, till you got a Death Star at least :P .

Just remember, Sidious is behind this entire thing. Why would he order a BDZ of the planet he wants to conquer? He wants itto look good, not completely destructive.

Utapau is occupied by the Separatists, they're going to "liberate" it. Any limited "clean" bombardment they perform on that sinkhole isn't evidence of anything- we don't know if Utapau actually comes under attack from the Republic while Obi-Wan rides Boga (the name of the creature) after Grievous- the concept art seems to indicate that- but Republic forces (not just Obi-Wan, Clone troops as well) are on the ground at the same time. They have no intention of glassing the place or causing mass death and destruction.

I thought the Confederacy was occupying Utapau for their territory, or at least as a place to fall back to after Coruscant, rather than liberate it.

EDIT: Shit, you're talking about the Republic. Nevermind.

Thanks to the spiffy new hi-res pics I've noticed a few things:

-We finally know the answer to question of how does an R2 unit fits in the new Jedi Interceptor. If you look carefully at Obi-wan's fighter in one of the space battle pics you can see his astromech's feet hanging below the wing. I'm sorry Lucas, but this small fighter business is getting ridiculous. This is the third time they've fucked astromech socket up. I'm beginning to think they are doing this shit on purpose.

-The more space battle pics I see the less hopeful I am that the Republic will field a diverse space fleet. So far it seems that the Venator swarm will be all we get in this film.

-It looks like that tri-pedal walker on Kashykk, has two main guns. The turret gun and one larger gun sticking right out of the forward hull  . I think they would have been better off sticking with the concept of a regular AT-TE with extended legs and enlarged feet. Because this new thing is just silly.

Just figure that it's only a small part of Coruscant's home defense fleet, most of it was sent to the Outer Rim for planetary liberation campaigns, so they only have a fleet of Venators left behind. . .

I think there may be a fundamental inconsistency between the CG and the real model. The real model, R2 is clearly higher than he is on the CG.

Yeah, that annoys me as well. All we've ever seen in these pics is Venator's, its really aggravating. Hidalgo said there'll be more than one type, but I haven't seen any evidence of such. The Separatists have at least four types present, by contrast.

One might posit it's a walker equivalent to a tank destroyer- i.e. it's meant for defensive purposes.

It's not the home fleet, judgign from information, its a republic fleet coming to the rescue.

I can see what Lucas is going for though. The Separatists are supposed to be visually similar to the Rebels with a diverse battle fleet. While the Republic/Empire fleet is largely dominated by one type. But given the fact that Hidalgo says that the Trade Fed Battleship is going to be the largest class present I think it is unlikely we will see any sort of large Republic cruiser or battlecruiser serving as the core of the Republic fleet.
Vympel wrote:One might posit it's a walker equivalent to a tank destroyer- i.e. it's meant for defensive purposes.
Yeah, that idea makes sense. Especially with the tri-pedal leg system. This new thing is going to very slow even for a walker. Also the new walker seems to lack the ball turrents of the old one, which suggests it's not intended to deal with anything other than heavy vehicles. Mind you, the original AT-TE isn't perfect in my eyes as the walker equivalent of a MBT. It's main flaw being the exposed gunner. What they should do is delete the infantry squad from the forward hull. Move the gunner in there and use the left over space in the forward hull for extra ammo.

That's not for certain. There hasn't been that many pictures seen yet, and I can't recognize some of the ships seen in the pics.

I was going by info in "Labyrinth of Evil" Greivous' strike force caught the depleted Republic home fleet off guard. The majority of the Home Fleet had been sent to the Outer Rim by Palpatine for mop up actions. . .

Sure more ships probably arrive later in the battle. I just figure the Venator is the most common warship at this time so there'd be alot of them in comparison to other vessels.

And it's stil not certain that the Venator will be the only Republic cap ship in the battle. . .

If there really isn´t any other Republic ship-types in this film (apart from the Corellian Corvette and Pablo´s comment about other vessels), we can always hope that the new season of CW shows the beginning of the battle (as hinted at by official comments) with multiple ship-classes on the Republic side. (The Venators could be the only ones to survive long enough to make it to the movie. :P)
