"The transit is seven minutes from this distance, Detective Inquisitor. Our orders were to maintain proper evasive distance from the station," Uschi informed him. "Will that be sufficient time, or should the shuttle loiter a little to give you time to finish your prayers?" she finished with a completely straight face.

The las beam punched through the side of the traitor's breastplate. The sniper had been to smart to try and a get a kill shot against an advancing marine in undamaged armour. Instead the bolt damaged a power transmission cable, killing power to his left arm. Voleg jinked and and fired from the hip, his accuracy impared by his sluggish arm. He backpedaled, firing as he went.

"Advance!" he yelled at the cultists. Oh, someone was going to pay.

Inquisitor Rosanthor raised an eyebrow under his helmet.
A soldier was giving him cheek!
The bitch had serious balls, so to speak.
"That will be almost adequate. Such efficiency is a benefit to the Imperium. Where will we be best deployed?"

Slate nodded to his Demo man, and the corridor exploded for the third time; It was going to need some serious repair work done.

Hartrek was in the process of rolling away from his perch when one of the bolter rounds smashed into his hip. His screaming echoed throughout the hallway, as the rest of the skirmishers opened fire.

--------------------
Uschi blinked. The mighty inquisitor was asking a mere mortal questions about deployment? He might have a brain after all.

Damn it, she'd been with Engelier too long. His bad attitude about all matters Imperial had rubbed off on her.

"Securing the docking bay and linking up with our forces defending the infirmary..." she paused as her commbead informed her that the battle was joined. "Would be advisable soonest. Our forces are engaging more marines and mutineers," she concluded.

Damn it, hurry up, she silently implored the inquisitor.

"Thanks. Haekl, get those two cans loaded, and see what's keeping the Jackal! We've got to move!"

Body parts pelted the Traitor Legionaires. Great Horus! What in the names of all the gods of Chaos did they have stashed in there? Voleg double checked to make sure they were headed towards the infirmary, not the arsenal. Yep, the map said it was the infermary. They really needed Terminator armour for this shit.

"Pull back brothers," Voleg ordered. "Too much explosives. Sweep and kill. You-" he pointed at the cultists, "form a perimeter. Keep them bottled up." He turned and left. Killing a few mortals slowly would take care of his frustrations. Once the station was theirs they could burn out the infirmary at their leasure. No point in losing any more battle brothers over this. The price was already too high.

Mallok emerged from a vent in front of Slate. "They are pul'ling back, Serg'ent."

Slate Turned to the Rogue Trader. "I'm out of explosives, Trader. Should we take the initiative?"

"Small matter of a large chasm separating us from them, sergeant," Engelier informed Slate. He hit the private channel to Synnove. "You know what I'd do in their shoes, love?"

"Something daring and stupid, like melting the floor and walls around us?" she asks.

"...Synn... how many times do I have to tell you that on a ship, they're not walls, they're bulkheads?"

"Regardless, you're thinking they're going to try to outflank us."

"Precisely. Outflank, that was the fancy military word I was groping for. Let's keep our eyes open."

--------------
Uschi watched the inquisitor finally get a sense of urgency about affairs appreciatively. The shuttles engines were already warm and ready to go... from the minute he gave the go command, they would be off. She turned and walked back to the far end of the docking bay, watching as they loaded the last bit of weapons.

The Jackal was finally dragged away from the trader's now empty cargo hold, and the shuttle screamed out of the hangar bay, bearing its precious cargo.

Sister Lillith squirmed through the ventilation ducts, stalking her prey. She could have her choice of any of the small fry, the cultists and others... but she lusted for another shot at one of the truly dangerous ones, one of the blasphemous heretics who dared to turn against the Emperor. She followed her instincts, trusting that they and His will would guide her toward the best target.

"All our guns got frakked as we pulled out," the pilot informed Rosanthor as they approached the docking bay. "You're going to have to provide your own fire support."

Nathan swore and ducked back. Bolter rounds chewed the air where he had been a moment earlier The Traitor Terminator was barely damaged from the plasma blast. That he caught most of it on his Daemon Blade wasn't helping either. Lena's face was gaunt. The Chaos Lord had spearheaded the assault against the Men of Iron. In a confined space Terminator Armour was the most potent weapon in the Imperium's arsenal. When worn by a Chaos Lord it was too much for even the Men of Iron. At least they had taken two Traitor Legionaires with them.

"Pull back," said Lena, clutching her plasma gun. "We can maneuver him into a place where we have a chance. Frontal assault against a Terminator in a corridor is suicide."

Nathan reluctantly agreed. He hated it, hated it even more than he had to admit he couldn't handle the situation in front of Lena, but she was right. You didn't win by playing to the enemy's strengths.

Uschi stood on the bridge, pacing by the railing on the command deck. She remembered the time they were stranded on an alien world, an unnamed rock hundreds of light years away.

Once upon a time, I was the absolute worst ensign in the entire Segmentum. Engelier told her cheerfully. The Lord Admiral told me at my court martial that I was the worst he'd ever seen in his career, and an utter disgrace to my uniform.

She was sure they were going to die on that misbegotten rock, and they hadn't.

Now, every time he took out an expeditionary party, she had a sick feeling in her stomach that this was the time his luck would run out.

Sgt. Slate wasn't happy. He'd lost half of his men in the 2 weeks they'd been here, and he didn't like being surrounded, cut off. There had to be another way...

The pilot dropped the mask on his pressure suit. Mandatory regulations on the Wager required that all personnel on expeditionary missions be kitted out in hostile environment gear.

"Stand by," he said, voice echoing over the speakers. "It was pretty warm in here when we left..."

The shuttle entered the docking bay at high speed... at the last second he hit the reverse thrusters, an expert bit of piloting, and settled the ship down on the hull with a hard thump.

"Ramp is down!" he called out. "GO GO GO!"

Engelier glanced at the sergeant, recognizing his restlessness.

"Synn, I think an expedition is in order. I'll take some of ours and the sergeant's men here, and we'll try to get updeck on our opponents. You can hold here with your usual deftness, right?"

"These are chaos marines, Eng. You can't take chances with them," she said, not disagreeing outright.

"They bleed like any beast that lives," he said as he rose to his feet. He switched to external speakers. "Sergeant, let's go hunting."

Slate and another of his men, and the Kroot, kitted out with various weapons taken from foes, fell in behind the Trader.

Haekl fired off four grenades, the coloured smoke quickly filling the hangar bay.
The cultists opened fire on the coloured birds that were stealing their eyes.
And their friends.
Rosanthor gave them a few seconds, before drawing his power sword and charging down the ramp.
A series of explosions rocked the room as a rogue missile hit a cultist's grenades.
"Pilot, lift off! Toby, Peccator! Accipe! Praesta!"

Bullets flew at the disembarking troops. Magus Krill's forces, decimated as they were, responded to the attack. Their fire was ragged, but not ineffective. Krill himself waited in the back and drew a swirling black wind around himself.

As they started their way up the maze of ladders to the next few decks, Engelier popped the mask on his armor to speak without use of the externals... it was much friendlier and more personal that way.

"So sergeant... Slate... how did a nice man like you end up on this misbegotten hunk of rotating scrap metal, anyway?"

The ship lifted on its suspensors, then rotated so that its engines faced the heretics... the pilot quickly hit a sequence of keys, and a gout of flame erupted in a .5 second microburst of full power that threw the ship out of the bay, while bathing the area behind it in a jet of fusion-powered flame.

Flesh charred to ash as the gout of flame consumed the cultists. The few survivors were easy prey. All except Magus Krill. The armoured chaos sorcerer unleashed the black wind which tore through the bay with a keening whine. In its wake it left listlessness and despair.
