Matthew is over 5 feet tall already.

Reminds me of the scene in Die Hard 2 where McClane's getting his ass kicked until he manages to break off an icicle and stab the bad guy through the eye with it.

Sorry, but you don't get to complain about the difficulty of clearing snow if you're using a machine to do it. Aerius was holding a real shovel, not standing next to a gas-powered snowblower.
Right. Oh please. :) It isn't me in that pic but my dad. He's 61 so I do not think shovelling all that snow would be good for his heart. I used a shovel while he used the snowblower. I bet with the amount of snow you guys had you called the army again right? :)

You guys have no need of snowblowers with the sprinkles of dandruff you Torontonians got.

When one person uses a shovel and the other person uses a snowblower, the first person is just mopping up around the edges. Quit your whining.

Right; this from the guy whose dad did all the real work ... with a machine.
You guys have no need of snowblowers with the sprinkles of dandruff you Torontonians got.
Yes, according to the weather services, you got roughly 1/3 more snow in that big storm than we did. How that translates to a gap between "massive snowfall" and "sprinkles of dandruff" is something I can only attribute to the some sort of Ottawa-induced brain damage, especially since you now admit that not only did you need a machine to clear your driveway, but you didn't even do most of the work. Your daddy pushed it around while you mopped up. Maybe you helped him tie his bootlaces too.

And our national pastime is a borderline blood sport. Case closed :P.
Zor wrote:I live in winnipeg, a city that gives mostly Siberia a run for it's money in winter severity and it is currently -23 degrees out.
Dream on. Most parts of Siberia easily match that in the winter, and in some places the temperature routinely goes below -40. This shouldn't be surprising, as virtually all of Russia is further north than Winnipeg.
Surlethe wrote:How long does the snow generally last in Ontario, anyway?
For sountern Ontario, it's usually beginning of December to the end of March, which is how it's been as long as I can remember. In some recent winters it's been more like the beginning of January to early/mid-march, though. This year seems to be back to december-march.

So it was nice and warm out, sun was shining, grass was starting to grow again...

And now there is ice on the roads (!), there is snow to be shoveled (!!), and there's more where it came from(!!!). Where the fuck did my spring go? :(

Darth Wong, I don't think you have a leg to stand on until you face a winter with a total snowfall of over 4 meters. From what I understand you've gotten what? 1/4 or 1/3 of that? Of course if we had your winter we wouldn't need snowblowers either. :)

My father uses the snowblower because it is his and he does things his way. I clean up after him so the snow left over doesn't get compacted and turn into ice. I also clean up areas where the snowblower can't each. I guess your definition of a real man is that he should be able to shovel snow even if it kills him. I have a less fatalistic view of what a real man is. :)

What does that have to do with anything? The total snowfall over the entire season tells you more about how often it snows than how much each snowfall is. And as I said, anyone who uses a snowblower forfeits his right to whine about the amount of snowfall.

None of this bullshit changes the facts that:

A) Your daddy does most of the work
B) If you use a snowblower, you forfeit the right to complain

I never said that people should kill themselves shoveling. But if you're going to wimp out and use a snowblower, YOU CAN'T WHINE ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF SNOWFALL. Stop being a whiny bitch.

Please point out anywhere that I was whining. Sheesh, I've been light hearted throughout this thread but you seem to want to debate this. Lighten up. All I've been doing was showing that we get more than you and you seem to take offense to it.

Where's your funny bone? Or are you too jaded?

So at the risk of committing minor necromancy, I've decided to offer a minor reminder of the thread title with this offering:

Note that no snow has actually yet been piled on that drift; that was all snowfall from a 24-hour period, prior to which all the snow had melted off the lawn. I'm about six feet tall and my funny head always pushes toques upwards, so that drift is well over five feet tall and about as wide as an SUV. I spent an entire day that I would've liked for studying instead digging out neighbors and trying to dig a trail for my brother to have room for the truck to get out so he could get home. Thankfully, my finals won't be postponed or canceled and I will have plenty more makeup study time between now and tomorrow.
