There's a different one on the back.

I guess they changed the way license plates work sometime in the next twenty-five decades :P

EDIT: and the ship I pegged as Nero's might not be his at all. There's quick shots in the trailer of a... squid-ship that looks more like it, I think.

Which HD link are you clicking on? I did the 1080P for both. Trailer #1 is the teaser and # 2 is the one being discussed here.

I'm seriously fucking pissed. Not one link for the new trailer is working anywhere. What the fuck? Is the internet that fucking clogged over this one trailer?

Every one of those links is doing exactly what it was doing before. It gets to the green preview screen and does nothing. Attempting to save any one of those link sources results in a 1k file that doesn't work either.

The problem I described above has been fixed.

Stop and learn before flipping out like an idiot. Look inside those 1K files. Most of it is garbage, but they contain filenames. Those filenames are the proper download links.

For example, http://movies.apple.com/movies/paramoun ... _h480p.mov (note the difference from the link posted above) should provide you a file that you can right-click and download.

Now that I've had a chance to see it in a higher resolution, here's some thoughts:

Kid Kirk on that cliff looks really dodgy. I hope that it's just for the trailer. Also, the gorge itself looks quite bizarre and artificial.

Nero's carrying a fancy spear thing. This can't end credibly.

Scotty's going to be the funny one.

Otherwise, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Oy vey. Spock looks cool, but that's about it. The only word I can think of here is "clusterfuck." I'll give this movie a chance because pre Voyager Trek is my favorite genre of Sci Fi, but this just looks like more shit to add to the graveyard of contemporary Star Trek. From the looks of it, the bridge of the ship has been revamped to look more "futuristic." This is the kind of shit I can't stand. Plus JJ Abrahms is a tard.

Yeah, we all know by now that the "average viewer" is to the movie industry what the mystical "casual gamer" is to the games industry.

Come on, when JJ Abrahms was asked to remake superman, he turned Kal El into a prince, with Kryton totally intact.

Basically, he LIKES to screw the fans over.

I don't know about anyone else but to me the whole starship suicide ramming thing is getting quite old. I don't think it gets better than the Pegasus in nBSG anyway, but we'll see.

While I don't outright disagree with you, a few hours drive north of where you live are open cut mines. These are superficially similar.

EDIT: that's what the big 'buildings' we keeping seeing in the background could be. Massive mobile drilling/processing rigs.

I'd be tempted to think that they're somehow spaceship related. Maybe a sort of landing brace for the larger ships?

If you were a drinking man or a betting man, I'd wager your spaceports versus my mining machines for a sixpack of Boags Premium.

Wake up and smell the coffee. If somebody made a live-action movie based on the "scenery-eating giant robot rants and raves, initiates ridiculous scheme to steal our oil, and then gets defeated by good guys and runs away while screaming I shall return!" model of the old Transformers TV show, it would have been laughed out of theatres. It needed a serious change of genre scenery.

If Star Trek was completely rebooted, that might actually be a good thing. But we have quotes from the producers talking about canon, which suggests the opposite: that they will try to clumsily fit it to the existing legacy and maybe use time travel to explain away the incongruities. But a lot of the problem with Star Trek wasn't the timeline; it was the whole Trek Culture inspired by decades of obsessive fans who elevated it into something it wasn't: a moral icon instead of a space adventure.

I think anyone setting this up to be the second (or third or fourth) coming of Trek is going to be disappointed, just as legions of Wars fans were when Episode I premiered. Its flaws as a movie notwithstanding (and it was pretty deeply flawed), it could never have lived up to the amount of hype surrounding it. The slobbering fanboy backlash running along the lines of "zomg it luks lik a fukin 90210-meets-space shitpiece" is tiresome. Go away.

I think anyone just expecting to see a new twist on Trek will probably enjoy themselves. The only responsibility Abrams & co. have is to produce an entertaining movie that, at best, manages to be thought-provoking while also being entertaining. The trailer does a good job of indicating that they'll at least get the whiz-bang entertainment factor. What remains to be seen, and won't be known until the movie opens, is whether they hit the mark for the other aspects of what makes a movie entertaining, and whether or not it manages to be thought-provoking in the process.

Until then shut the fuck up. Go make a thread called "Emo Kids Cry Over New Trek" or something similarly appropriate.
