There are hundreds of gems around the nest. You put all the gems in your backpack, and you find a helm in the nest.
You continue along the path in the forest.
Mary asks whether you think you are ready to take on a nest full of dozens of those creatures.

Reply that in truth unless only two or three attack at a time for some reason it is doubtful that you could hold such numbers off
Ask if Mary thinks he is ready, and if not why is he presumably heading off to a nest full of these creatures.
Don helmet.

Sir Mary is confused by your reference to a car.
He says, "Is that like a cart?"

Run in circles and cluck like a chicken. Pick up night and place it in your pocket. Lick bound wounds.

The runes are runes of power. If you visualize them while wearing the helm, you can use their powers. You look them up on the internet.
Vision - See in the dark as if it were day
Breath - Breath water
Speak - Speak any language
Hear - Hear sounds from far away.

Test the Hear rune's function. What do I hear?

You place the helm back on your head.
You think of the hear rune. You hear all of the sounds of the forest around you. The dying fire sounds like a forest fire. But you find that in addition to hearing everything at once, you find you can focus on individual sounds.
As you listen, you notice a sound of footsteps behind you.

You assume a fetal position, as the growling gets lowder, and you hear more footsteps.

You hear the faint words. "You are a moron." They seem to be coming from your sword.
