Touch Rangers were only ever semi-annoying - they've been of very limited use for a while now. Their DPS is too low - if I don't have a build that can get around all their blocking, I can literally just ignore their low damage output and attack someone else. Half the time I just cripple them and walk away...
Oh, here's another thing to take note of - you'll see a lot of utility skills that while you're playing PvE you'll look at and go "why the hell would I ever use or need that?" This most notably applies to crippling skills, which are all but useless in PvE. However, many of those skills are invaluable in PvP. I'm just letting you know cause I remember thinking this when I first started GW.

They still created alot of whine threads on the forums. They were easy prey for somewhat competent mesmers or rangers but they killed alot of lesser skilled players.

Man, GWguru is nothing but QQ threads, lately. even over the FREE INCREASED STORAGE update coming next week (stemming from the whole "if you want EVEN MORE than the free crap we're giving you for FREE, you have to pay an exorbitant amount for it.) But there was one DEDICATED to QQing over PS sins....just...ugh, get off it.

On another message board I frequent we started our own by-game discussion threads because none of us could stand the official forum QQ-ing. So now we have actual discussions and people can get help without getting crap - sort of like how this thread turned out, actually.

Thank you. I used to actually like that site, but it turned into this insane bitch fest. Wah, no GW2 info. Wah, we have to pay for more storage tabs, despite the fact that they're giving us on for free. Wah, since there aren't any updates I apparently have nothing else to do, but bitch about it on forum. You can only find a justifiable complaint in there every once in a blue moon.

Oh jesus, don't get me started on the GWguru forums. First off, it's full of elitiest assholes, and of course all the fucking bitching and whining.
There's a distinct pattern to the whining there, too, especially of the elitiests:
Any class gets a buff except Warrior class: BITCH BITCH MOAN OP OP OP!
Warrior gets a nerf: BITCH MITCH MOAN MOAN, THEY HAVE TO NERF WARRS SO THE SHITTY PLAYERS HAVE A CHANCE! A-NET DOESN'T CARE ABOUT SKILL AND HAVE RUINED GUILD WARS.
They need to get the fuck over themselves. And that last line has been yelled, verbatim, countless times.
Oh, and Warriors > everything, if you disagree you're an "idiot." If another class can ever DPS melee better than a Warrior, then they're overpowered.
Oh, and if you post any build that goes against what they constitute as "good," you get a huge flame fest of how much of a "fucking idiot your are, and your build is a pile of shit!" In fact, they've said that about any build I've posted there ever, yet my builds prove to be consistently effective.
Broom: Just stay away from the GWGuru forums...

Yes, yes they do get a lot of whining. And yes, they are easy prey to competent mesmers or rangers - a 'Sin build I had was good at totally raping them too. Many of my Dervish builds have no trouble taking them out, either (Sand Shards FTW.)
I think they do kill a lot of lesser skilled players too - out of sheer tactical stupidity. The Touch Rangers take forever to actually make the kill, and the other player can't out damage the healing of the touch ranger - so they sit there and fight for 3 minutes until one of them drops.

Lemme aks you expert PvE'ers this question :
I want to run sabway - only modified. that is, two MM bombers (Necros who 'splode their minions to keel things) heroes and one N/M instead of the curses necro - pvx is USELESS for finding a build like this - I'm horrible at synergizing builds and sabway itself does not synergize with a melee class period. So...thoughts?
Hmm...I must've been looking at a different build -
sabway actually does have a N/R healer-type - but I am concerned about the decided lack of flesh golem. EXPLAIN!

N/M...? Necro/Monk or Necro/Mesmer? Also, what do you want this hero to do?
Running two MMs is only advisable in areas where there are a lot of corpses, or the missions where enemies keep spawning, otherwise I found that there are not enough corpses and you have 1 of the MMs being essentially useless.
Flesh Golem is ok for what it does - produce a giant beefy minion that is hard to kill - but it is slow. Jagged Bones fits in much better with the theme of the minion bomber - produce a crap load of cheap minions and get benefits when they are killed - Death Nova for mass poison, and Jagged Bones for a replacement better minion. And the AI is very good at using both of them. With Summon Bone Minions and only 4 or 5 corpses, you suddenly have a swarm of explodey, replacey death that distracts enemies.

So, anyhow, this whole time I'm getting GW the Other Half is like "I'm not interested" and "I hardly even play WoW anymore" and "You go ahead and enjoy it - I'm not interested."
So.... early this morning...
:::nudge, nudge:::
>snork<
grumble "Wuzzup? Huh?"
"Honey - what's the password for Guild Wars? I can't get in the game!"
Uh, huh - not interested...

Well, I was going to ask when I got new skills, but I seem to have figured that one out (do more quests!)
Yes, post-searing Ascalon is desolate, but not nearly as bad as implied upthread. At least not yet.
I'm switching off between my Ascalon toon and my Factions... was thinking of starting a Nightfall but I'm holding off on that for awhile. Leveling is starting to slow down for both my current ones, which I suppose isn't too surprising - higher levels are supposed to be harder, right?
My current Ascalon Ranger/Elemenalist build would no doubt raise eyebrows with more experienced GW players, but I'm going for a mix of hard hits and AoE attacks, with a healing thrown in. Still trying out secondaries on my Factions girl - I'm leaning towards either a Warrior/Ranger or >sigh< Warrior/Elementalist. Don't really want to get stuck too much in one secondary, but I really like the AoE for my toons and the animal companion expands the group size.
Question about Ranger pets - can you only have 1 at a time, or do you ever get more? Do you have to give up your current one before taming another, or is there something like the WoW Stables were you can store your "spares"?
I got something called a "fire imp" with my Trilogy, which is like having another party member. I did figure out a smaller party of henchmen means you get more of the XP's and loot, but you are more likely to die. Still trying to figure out the optimum party size. Please tell me I'll eventually have access to henchmen above level 3.
About loot - is it better to go to collectors or just pay for your damn armor upgrades? I outfitted both mine by going to an artisan because I had the crafting mats on hand. Not sure if it's worth dying the initial upgrade or not. I have the money, but on the other hand if I'm just going to replace it soon I'll put up with grays for a brief time.

There are also skill trainer NPCs who you can buy skills from. For Factions and Nightfall, most of your skills come from the skill trainers.

You are probably going to run into troubles with having enough energy and with spreading your attribute points around.

You can only have one pet, you have to give it away to get a new one. Though unless you focus on beast mastery, your pet is likely to be a waste of a skill slot. Or two if you want to being something to keep the pet alive.

Later towns have higher level henchmen. I found it best to run with a full party unless I was farming.

Collectors have armor that is a step above what the NPCs craft in an area, but you have to go hunting for the items they want. I suggest sticking to the crafters and buying any materials you lack from the material trader.
After you have upgraded your armor, salvage it to get some crafting materials back.
If you can't afford armor at one crafter, push on and come back to him once you can afford it.

Factions and Nightfall aren't very long before you can easily add on secondary professions.
Also, Broom, I've seen you on 3 or 4 times, but you never respond...

Sorry about that - my old people's eyes don't read the chat window very well. Is there any way to make the text on that bigger? Between that and the way it blends into so much of the landscape (I suspect it's not working well with my colorblindness - I read the various chats are supposed to be distinguished by color but they all look alike to me) I'm missing a lot of it. Sorry. Don't mean to be anti social. Then I get caught up in combat and, well, I don't
mean to be a jerk. I'll try to pay more attention in the future.

I just thought maybe I kept catching you while you weren't actually at your computer.
Anyway, hit F11 - go to the Graphic's tab, and set the Interface Size to be larger.

Broom; If you peck around the menu, you'll find that you can get to a HUD customization screen that lets you literally resize and move any element of the HUD at will via simple drag-and-drop, drag-to-expand/condense controls.

I ran a Ritualist/Necro build for a while that, while demanding, was a fun little exploder. I used beefed-up versions of two skills I have completely forgotten the names of from the primary line of skills which, essentially, read "Every time you create a creature, things near the creature get hurt" and another enchantment which healed nearby allies when creatures popped up. Coupled with frenzied minion creation/death, in tight quarters you can literally set off waves of massive damage and healing along the front lines, thus creating an army, hurting things, and supporting the melee ranks simultaneously.

So how are you guys enjoying the B-day celebration? I love the new update. Snagged my free storage upgrade a couple days ago, and visited with Nicholas the traveller just last night - Lame-assed haul, though, got 5 crates of Fireworks, 5 Mysterious summoning stones, 10 mysterious tonics, and 5 pieces of sugary blue rock candy. The whole deal with nicholas is damned clever, though, I must say. GW has been puttering about for some time now about the availability of gold and lack of money sinks. Nicholas creates that on a whole new scale. For instance, he wants a total of 3 bolts of linen (A rare crafting material) which boosted the prices for these mats by THOUSANDS of gold per piece and cleaned out every materials trader of both plant fibers AND linen. Nicholas will surely deplete the market of at least one thing every week, eliminating gluts, and creating a whole new dynamic to the economy. Kudos to Anet on that.
I had fun for about two days at the boardwalk, then I got the itch and had to go check out all the other cool shit that was going on around the world. Got me about 200 birthday cuppycakes, which is AWESOME because, well, who doesn't like a 25% boost in movement speed? (PS - once you get used to moving at 25% faster than you normally do, losing that buff clows time to a CRAWL. I hate it. For the remainder of the week (Once the celebration has ended) it is very likely that I will really focus on finishing nightfall, then I'll go see what all the brouhaha about this "Underworld" place is.
All that said, I have to get something off of my chest - Why can't we get more areas like the Dadala Uplands? green, beautiful, lush, and crawling with monsters. Seems like the best place to get "stuff" is Underworld which is bleak, dark, and just....blecch. Anet seems to be addicted to blasted landscapes and grimdark caves. Next update, let's get some area like Greater Faydark or Nektulous forest (EQ) The Prescence of bad guys in a zone, even uber evil ones, does not necessarily convert the entire landscape to barren rock and volcanoes.

Lion's Arch or Shing Jea Monastery. festivities include games of chance, rollerbeetle racing, dodgeball tournaments, and Birthday cuppycakes are dropping from creatures across the continent.
You need to hurry - I think today is the last day!

Ales are ~200
All minis go for like 60-100k
cuppycakes are ~200-250
same with bunnies
Silver/blue dye is trash - sell it to a trader.
