SI, I hate to break it to you, but leaning has been shittily integrated into every game its been in.
Its ok if this does actually make you cry actual tears though. Because we're all here for you.
If you need someone to lean on.

Well I have to agree on the lean part. A properly designed cover system makes leaning redundant and clumsy.

I almost cried tears when I saw the player crawl through a vent using the prone function. If they throw in the lean function coupled with a good keyboard/mouse interface setup, that's the first step towards guaranteeing I'll pay out the money for the game.
What's next ? You want a crowbar as melee weapon ? Are health packs going to be the next revolutionary game mechanic ?

A cover system that must take into account that bits of the cover can be shot away in large to small chunks. Being able to stick yourself to that doorframe might be fine if the walls next to it were not gone.
That a coding nightmare of adding in more destruction and a smarter cover system because each thing you add to one doubles the amount of work in the other. There's nothing worse than a cover system where your automatically sticking to cover that's just not there. Even GEARS had this issue with non-destructible cover. You need lean like you need cover, for survival purposes.
