Sorry...no scanner, and have yet to find any real pics(aside from cover shots)...but the best I can do is literally a description.
Basically in the panel before you see Kanos take aim and fire. What you see is Kanos turning his head looking at the incoming ships on top of some wreckage.
Next Panel is the window of an Interceptor being piecered above the control panel, with the pilot recoiling as his torso is being hit by said Laser bolt. This was done as a normal long panel with no angles...just a straight on
All in all pretty nasty since they didn't show Kanos shooting multiple shots, at the Interceptor....just him lining up one good shot at it.

And keep in mind that according to the Zahn trilogy, a TIE fighter's cockpit window can handle E-11 blaster fire (not to mention atmospheric re-rentry).

Isn't that a bit like saying a regiment of regular army could defeat aStormbringer wrote:In a mano a mano fight the Sardukar go down hard. They're good but the Imperial Guard is even tougher and with better quality weapons.
Now if we're talking the entire forces going at it the Sardukar would anihilate the Imperial Guard.
SEAL team?

The blaster resistance is also in the Wraith Squadron books, Iron Fist IIRC, in which personal take cover behind TIE windows inside a factory building them. A special coating that give them their strength is mentioned, without it rifle fire would go through.Darth Wong wrote:And keep in mind that according to the Zahn trilogy, a TIE fighter's cockpit window can handle E-11 blaster fire (not to mention atmospheric re-rentry).

I'd have to look up the reference, but it makes sense from the standpoint of storms and sand getting into the gears. Otherwise why would it matter? Shields and lasguns aren't based on the principles as far as I know. Could be wrong I guess.. especially if this is explained in the last three books.Window shot.
And as for the Lasgun problem partially shield, partially also they commented it being delicate as well. They said the Harkonnens had repair stations everywhere because of the sand problem for both the shield and their lasgun use.
Not really, because neither group is "regular army," both are supposed to be unusual, "elite" private armies under the control of an Emperor.Isn't that a bit like saying a regiment of regular army could defeat a
SEAL team?
Though, I'm not sure if its stated or not whether the Emperor himself in Dune has any other army other than the Saradukar. I would assume his planet (Kaitan sp?) would have its own force at the very least. Everybody else does, but this is his personal terror force.
The Red Guards seem to be fewer in number, but they are the elite personal guard of the Emperor.

I think they had some sort of blast resistant darkening effect.
[/quote]Is there a screenshot of this anywhere?
I might be able to scan it for you by this weekend.
basically just a single shot from what I can tell, CE renders blaster shots as beams, for obvious reasons, and the number of shots IIRC can sometimes be established by the floating sound effect words.
When Kanos shoots theres no sound effects at all IIRC.
But I doubt its more than one.
As to numbers of Sarduakar (got the spelling right finally!) I would have to watch the movie(s) again, but the books say that a legion is ten brigades (hope I got that right) totalling 30,000 men (it doesn't say infantry only).
In the book ten legions attack the Atreides, though its kind of confusing as to how many of them are Sarduakar and how many are Harkonnen troops/mercenaries. At one point its said that two legions of Sarduakar are present, at other times it seems closer to five legions.
The fifty legions quote I gave may in fact be their total force, but I'd have to watch the Lynch movie again to see the exact figure. But I believe it was higher there than in the book.

Looking back in the books, its hinted at that the Empire has regular army other than the Sarduakar. The problem lies in that he often mixes them up with regular army or the armies of his allies, in order to hide their real numbers from his enemies and as a psychological tactic (you think you're fighting some conscripts so you send out an equivalent force, when in fact they're partially made up of a bunch of elites).
