Wait a minute...
Isn't the 8th fleet still in system around Sol, or are you leaving even if I have copied all the books and have the originals?

The Goa'oudl fleet drops out of hypespace and in an instand activates it's inciderator crusers. The persuing fleet is yanked out and engaged at point blank range.
Ok.......
[MY ENTIRE ARMADA + SOME PORTABLE STATIONS] vs [8th fleet]
I think we know how this is going to end. All my ships open fire.
Um no.. We arent right on your tail dyumbass, we are tracking you. Not attempting to actually catch and engage.
Oh, ok.

Remember that compromize. I cionsidered that in effect. We destroyed the originals, you have the copies.
And remember the language issue... jap to english with no reference point.
MY fleet jumped out in that first post.

A. It's still magic, it'd be more like learning to translate Latin into Italian or vice versa. Hard, but not overly hard because you can see the similarities.
B. These come from an Academy, right? So the academy trains people in magic, right? And there were primers there in the original post. Hence we've got two great leads to go on.
No... the languages of the spells would be completly different. Take two languages, the text means the same, but you have no way of knowing that without a reference point. For instance, in D&D a mage cannot use cleric scrolls or vice versa
The Skavans were theocrats, it stands to reason their spells would be divine in nature. the language of divine magic is different, as are the verbal and somatic components, as well as the material components.

You missed my point, magic is magic, their magic was a lot more like DnD wizzie magic then DnD divine magic (with their gate-ways and all.) The Magic being from the same magical root gives them a half-way decent reference point, and your primers give them an even better reference point. We've got what we need to copy the books, and to understand them.

We have the other end of the Stargate, genius. Who's going to send supplies through it?

You specified a jump of two weeks.

No, TYCHO has the other end of the stargate.
Hmmmm. Lets see, my former ally suddenly turns against me, I surrender to HIM for no apprant reason, and my fanaticly loyal Jaffa don't resist his invasion.
Do I detect a PATTERN here?

How do you figure? Divine magic also has gate spells and what not.
And when "primer" is used, that means things like cantrips and 1st level spells, basic shit. A mage is taught the language before he ever even sees a spell.
what you are essentially trying to do in tech terms, is take someone like the wright brothers, who knew how to build a simple plane, and and then give them the plans for an f-15 in mandarin(with no translation resources available) and expect them to be able to build it.

So, none of these tombs deal with, say, the differences between household spells and combat spells. None of these books go over basic review of magic? None of these books help someone "concentrate" their magic and casting?
Bunk.

No, more aptly I am taking the people at Boeing of the 1970s, giving them designs from modern day McDonnell Douglas, and asking them to copy the designs and to understand the principles behind them, and get prepared to use some of the more basic principles.

That is taught verbally and through hands on practice.

You are still attempting to reverse engineer something that is significantly more advanced than your own ability, and do so from a different language. Deal with it.

So is English. We still have books on grammar.

It's not reverse engineering, that's when you've got an example in front of you and try to work backwards to make plans. We've got the plans in front of us and are trying to understand the basics of your magic, as well as copy.

Same basic principle. You have the text, now you need it translated, from a language disimilar to ones you know, then you needd to understand what the basic principles are, then you need to apply those principles.
It isnt something you will be able to do in even a few weeks. Months minimum, years if you have setbacks.
\I am not saying you cant do it, just that it will take you a while. Long enough for me to concoct something
