I would find it highly amusing if all the world's dickeries resulted because of Historic Shroomanian Assholery.
Like modern Japanistan's dickery being the result of how Shroomania helped industrialize the nation in the early XXth century so they could butcher those goddamn New Sumatrans, how the CSR's dickery is the result of Shroomania initiating the Cold War by thinking up Operation Unthinkables and being dicks to the commies and Shadows immediately after WWII, and how the never-ending Shepistan-OD thing could be the result of Shroomania claiming Shepistan and then selling it to the Old Dominion for a few trinkets and beans in the 17th century... with the poor little Sheppos being like clueless Injuns.

It would be also amusing if it resulted from kittens, which isn't too different from what you proposed

Queen Asphyxia XIX could've gone mad and believed that her kittens were telling her what to do.
Ronald von Reagan's wife, Hillery Thatcher, could've also been like those crazy old ladies with house fulls of kittens. That's why she called the CSR an Evil Empire.

In my unpublished backstory I have slavery endure so long because of the Shroomish East Velarian Company, which had a monopoly on trade with Astaria (another reason why Astaria never got a maritime tradition).

For alliteration's sake, the SEVC would be a subsidary of the Shroomanian Settlement Syndicate. Which, totally had a stake in colonial dickery everywhere.

If the Sirnothis want the headache of dealing with your fringe-world yokels (who don't know where their loyalties lie), more power to them. I don't think it'll save you from Stas, but maybe that's just me

So basically Astaria not only is guaranteed against coalition cluster-fucking by their treaty with Japanistan, but can also rely on Sirnoth and the support of the FUN?

That's the idea anyway, but it's not so much rely on as it is becoming a protectorate of. When the Pezookian ambassador said that you'd generally have to march an army to the capital to get such terms he wasn't wrong.
Also note that the last two points of the treaty not only bans the slave trade, but in combination they also ban slavery itself. Not that anyone will care about such a minor point mind you.

This is my rough calculation, feel free to discuss the numbers, if no one objects this is what I'll be running with. Note that many of the people abducted may have families in Astaria by now, or may be unwilling to return for other reasons.
Countries/Regions of Origin
Velaria: 73 600 (40%)
Frequesne: 40 480 (22%)
Border States: 33 120 (18%)
Shepistan (Kanahwa): 29 440 (16%)
Sirnoth (Gileans): 5 520 (3%)
Others: 1 840 (1%)*
Total: 184 000
The bulk of others come from the IRT, Byzantium, Japanistan (New Sumatrans), and the two Caliphates. There is no indication that any were taken from the rest of Mess America, the CSR, or the original USSR. The reason for such limited imports from the Arab states may have to do with the accent being immediately detectable, and the extreme efforts taken to maintain the friendship of said states.
Stated Desire in Regards to Residence and Civil Status
Wants release from indentured servitude, even if it means leaving Astaria
Velaria: 20%
Frequesne: 55%
Border States: 73%
Shepistan (Kanahwa): 18%
Sirnoth (Gileans): 5%
Average: 36%

Shepistan (Kanahwa): 82%
Sirnoth (Gileans): 95%
Average: 63%
Wishes to stay in Astaria if/when released from indentured servitude
Velaria: 87%
Frequesne: 58%
Border States: 37%
Shepistan (Kanahwa): 96%
Sirnoth (Gileans): 95%

The FTO will likely cough up the money for everyone who wants to repatriate to Frequesue; those who want to GTFO of Astaria but don't really feel like returning to a hole-in-the-ground (the CFR), or who might run into trouble getting back because their old nation no longer exists (the PRSF), we cordially invite all of them to settle in San Dorado. We'll even fashion them with either a nice place somewhere on the mainland, or with a patch of land they can develop themselves in Valley Forge (formerly known as Real Eight, aka the colonies, aka the boonies).

Given your remarks on the isolation of Astaria from the rest of the world, I suspect some of those numbers would be skewed by the people not realizing what's changed. For instance, Katangwa might not particularly care about returning to the failed state of al-Akharabat, but to get to go home to a Katangwaland being developed by Canissia? CFR-origin people came from a war-torn country that is now settled down.

The Commonwealth States of the Southern Republic, the Vinish Republic of the Saviour's Hide and the Earlesi Protectorate will accept the indentured servants whom had originated in regions under Commonwealth rule currently, and provide them with a standardized plot of land to do with what they wish.
edit: That last bit sounds weird, let me rephrase it, the Commonwealth wants to work out a deal with astaria to move the indentured servants descending from people from the Southern Republic, and Vinish Republic of the Saviour's Hide areas of the Commonwealth, allowing them to work off the debt with labour on Commonwealth designated areas in either of the CFR areas or the Earlesi Protectorate, the protectorate also is near the insane hypercaptialists, who are more than willing to help pay off the indentured servants debt through work.
The indetured servants would become Commonwealth citizens, and be allowed to move throughout the Commonwealth.

I should clear up a few things in a hurry, use them as you please in your posts.
1. It doesn't really matter if the indentured servants want to go or not, expelling them all is the path of least resistance. So with a few exceptions, people from really oppressive regimes (you know who you are) and other special cases, they'll all be expelled.
2. Moving them out will be tricky, since we have no air-traffic links to any other country, and our sealanes are no longer safe. It might be best to drop them off in Sirnoth, temporarily, or some other place that'd agree to hold onto them.
3. Most Astarians are indeed very ignorant of the outside world, except for Velaria. Indeed Velaria they see as The Real World while the rest of the world is Here Be Dragons territory. So slaves from Al-Akhabarat would be aware of changed conditions there.
4. As for trade with Astaria, talk to Sirnoth. Given the lack of good harbours and secure sealanes this may take a while.
5. Astarian GNP per capita is $7600, or $10000 for citizens, which means that Astarians are somewhat poorer than Mexicans. Of course Astaria has far more heavy industry, but still. Outsourcing would be safe in that the Astarian government won't screw with your investments, but enemy bombers might.
6. Visiting Astaria is possible, if anyone wants to write a reporter going there, but tourism is still a no go.
7. The economic consequences of the war are fairly minor (1%-2% shrinkage of GNP), but the emancipation and the chaos that causes will almost certainly lead to an 5-8% drop in GNP in 2010, and said drop will almost certainly continue in 2011 (are we in 2010 BTW?).
8. Sirnoth will assume responsibility for Astarian diplomatic affairs abroad, though Astaria will retain her old embassies.
9. State of emergency continues untill further notice, as of yet there's no evidence that the hostilities have ceased.
EDIT: 10. I was planning on using a nationalization scheme for quite some time now, the whole bombing the shit out of Astaria wasn't altogether helpful. For one it forced me to sign that treaty with Sirnoth, rather than just abolish.

1. If there were any Alaskans in Astaria, then they will be evac'd via C/B-58s FLying out of Burpelson AFB. If we bill you for the fuel, is still up in the air.
2. The Fly off will include F-15s and F-16s from Shroomia, Typhoons from Byzantium, Su-37s from the CSR, and ASF-10s from Cascadia. If you people want to type up something about your planes planed performance, I'll integrate it into the post were I show off the contest / selection.
3. Next Years Pan-Pacific Meeting will be held at the McKinley Lodge Complex, Denali Reserve, Alaska.

P.P.S. Japanistan is also in the year 1960. Worse yet, it has to ask FASTA to launch it's satellites, meaning it doesn't even have a missile comparable to the R-7 derivatives' performance...
That’s because Japanistan is pursuing a series of air launched boosters, as well as a new eight jet mother aircraft similar to the Myasishchev M-52A/B series. A project for a conventional ground fired space booster is of lower priority as a backup. Theoretically the air launched Igo-26 ballistic missile I already have can place a very small payload in orbit, but this capability hasn’t been exercised. Developing the big new boosters will take quite some time to come, but I expect to have a Pegasus class rocket working soon. Throw weight into LEO is 1,000lb. The joint Shepistani-Japanistani air launched rocket plane program is also slowly slowly making ground towards an interceptor which is orbital capabul.
The eventually Japanistani aim is a mach 4-5.5 launch plane for manned and unmanned payloads, which will share an airframe with bomber and interceptor versions, as well as air launch boosters with air augmented rocket motors, but work on both projects cannot even begin in proper terms until initial development work on the basics of the necessary engines is completed. I doubt the game will last long enough for them to see the light of day.
Big rockets launched from static positions are not regarded as survivable or flexible enough for future Japanistani needs, and since I have no desire to try to go to the moon
