SirNitram wrote:My apologies. I assumed you were smashing down on the practice of 'granting' power, instead of invading NPC states. We'll assume over the six months that all the useful infrastructure is destroyed by riots and fighting, then.
Well, I'm against both practices. When a player-nation goes under, transferring all of their goodies directly to someone else at no cost causes all kinds of problems, as we learned in STGOD4.
Thirdfain wrote:I assume SirNitram intends on invading. This is a fair enough cassus belli to any power which has the stones or the inclination to move in and counter them.
It had appeared that Nitram'd assembled an ad-hoc coalition to justify his power grab (like the Arcane Empire mugging) and that would have complicated things immensely.
If it's going to play out as a difficult operation, wherein the three powers have to fight a nasty war with Desco's remains and anyone else in the area, they can go ahead and do it--although if that's the case I'm sure they won't. Corsair involvement would certainly get QE in on it along with anyone else who wanted on the bangbus, and then the Sabai, Stuart, and Corsairs would just get very badly mauled and end up with nothing to show for it anyway.
What I objected to is the territory falling into their hands for free just because Desco was an ass and got banned. That's simply no good at all.
Nitram wrote:No, just always plays in my head at the words 'Time warp'.
Well, RHPS was on VH1 just now.

Well, I assembled no 'coalition'.. I rolled and my sort-of-allies rolled after me. I'm quite happy to write it off as a no-gain thing to move things ahead; I don't find much joy in writing NPC invasions and wish things would get running. If people think time warping will improve matters, I will bully my cohorts into accepting this measure that we gain nothing but a little prestidge for keeping the locals from blowing themselves up. We'll leave it to self-govern.

I'm not really in for the gain. I just sent ships to assure that no one else grabs it. I'm perfectly willing to watch the Republic crumble before my eyes and let them slide back into fiefdom state.

Okay, I'm about to take up Frigid's targets in the Aquarian Union, but have discovered that one of his last in-game actions was to launch his attack. How the hell do we deal with this? He's already got a sizeable fleet present.
http://bbs.stardestroyer.net/viewtopic. ... 77#1454077 Under recent rulings concerning Cabwi, I presume that his nation is no longer a functional or cohesive power, so what about the deployed fleets?

Hmm... When I had to leave the game last year, I made sure that it would be gone, with no advantage to anybody. Thirdfain knows how that ended up. 6 months sounds good for skipping ahead.

Troll Horde attack that obliterates the worlds of the party in question. This eliminates the metagaming element of 'My power will not intervene if you accept a net zero gain from the takeover'. There's honestly no way for this to be foretold without omnisicient Ooc knowledge, so unless your power makes its decisions by flipping a coin, it should either muscle its way in or not based on the at-start situation.

Okay, because this attack's been on hold for far too long already. I shouldn't have delayed until now; Frigid got moving back in February...

Sorry if my post seems like it's going a bit far. I'm just going to help cleaning up, and assuming that I'm not instantly dead because of like.. ships with conflicting crews. Going to just tag that SSD knockoff and let bigger, scarier, piratier people finish it, kay?
Also, I REALLY wanted to smash down that station, and the creatively named Admiral Tarkin.

I think I've just comitted necromancy in the Story thread...
Edit: Whoops, did it again!
Twice! Next thing you know the OOB thread will rise to the surface. I better watch out

Shhh. He was going to make the Stellar Dominon of God and get his butt kicked by other nations that you know. Don't use faith based starships, with our 'science' witchery. But beware, he can pray very hard at us.

Damnit, faith-based starships sound like a great idea. Unleashing broadsides of fire and brimstone upon the heretics and being shielded by the collective belief that no infidel weapon can penetrate the hull.
Hmm..
Edit: And on a lighter note, we can now see the reason why we've got smaller ships and speak softly. We have nothing to prove.

Hehe, those main guns of yours must make keeping battle-formation an ironclad bitch.

Explanation 1 (The faith-based fleet): Formation? They're held in place by God's will. He alone dictates how my ships are placed and it is His will where they fire.
Explanation 2 (Vanas likes big guns): Imperfect technology and lack of systems after firing the bugger are no match for the satisfaction of kicking a bloody great hole in an offending moon.
Explanation 3 (In Universe): We've never really done 'formation' before. Just slagging mainly stationary things and smaller cap ships. On the other hand, if the formation all fired at once....
hmm.

We can lend you ships but there's a strict no subjugation policy implicit there.
Unless you have a sudden pressing need for a few extra solar systems and some Small Ships with Very Big Guns, in which case you launch a lot of Very Big Ships with lots of Small Guns, in which case we'd we pleased to provide you with as many ships arer required to stave off execution.

I'm still surprised that no one's using C-plus cannons from the Berserker books. Kinetics at greater-than-cee velocities, despite breaking all known laws of reality, are SEZZY.

Never read them. Though perhaps some insane particle physicists will get things going so fast they breach the grid. My twisted imagination does turn up the occasional gem of a weapons system. I'm sure I'll get something odd enough to break reality at some point.

I'm happy enough with my Culture knockoffs, though if another power wants to start more combat-at-FTL, I'd love to see CREWS vs. C+.
