Slayen wrote:...... how exactly does that cause the Core set to suck a bit? For enchantment heavy decks, it can be a life saver. Hell, useing the right tricks, can be used to bring in enchantments cheaper than normal.
It's just too inefficient. If you NEED enchantments for your deck to work, say, as part of a combo (like Aluren), then you should have chosen some kind of efficient 'protection' for your permanent. Black and red, which are more enchantment-light, don't have any such protection, but can be played with other colors. At this point, we realize that Auramancer, Monk Idealist, Rofellos' Gift, Revive, and Elven Cache are all superior to the Skull in terms of functionality and cost. Granted, none of these are repeatable, but how many times will your opponent be able to kill an enchantment? On average, a max of four times. Is it worth having a permanent that can revive an enchantment more than four times, at a cost MUCH higher than, say, Rofellos' Gift? No.
Most of my 'enchantment necessary' decks are green or white or black, and run alongside green or white as secondary colors if necessary. In my opinion, a Monk Idealist or Auramancer is the best of the bunch (unless you're packing one of the many 'return to play' creatures and sorceries), because it not only gives you your thing back for much less cost as the Skull, but it gives you a 2/2 body to attack and block with. Thus, functionally, the creature is far better for the cost and effect you're getting.

Mind Twist actually reads Target player discards x cards at random.
Its called errata. Otherwise my disenchants make you discard 1 artifact from play.

Noobs, have any of you heard of Coal Golem, Life chisel, In the Eye of Chaos, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale, or Rune of Protection:Land. Until you have seen all these cards in original english black boardered goodness, no more noob calling for you.

And I still have a Beta Time Walk from my playing days, many years ago, before such a thing as T1 and T2 existed, when Granite Gargoyles and Demonic Tutors still roamed the Earth, but before Fallen Empires glutted the market (Fairly lame set, too.)

Everyone always says something retarded like this ...
information like this is meaningless because the people reading it either
a. dont care
or
b. wont belive you
besides, saying something like this just makes it look like you're trying to impress everyone.

Mind Twist errata from 2001.
And to be honest, I don't care too much either. But with people yelling 'n00b!', I just wanted to point out I was playing many moons ago. I'm much more interested in L5R nowadays though.
On an unrelated note, I do think it's neat that Rukh Eggs were brought back as a promo for 8th.

I only started playing just before Legions came out, of course I'm a bloody newbie to the game.

If you like white enchantment decks Mirari's Wake and Divine Sacrement should be right up your alley.
Also, I picked up a pack and a pre-con goblin deck from 8th the other day. It's nice that some of the old cards are now legal again, but soem of the art clashes bad. I like the new pic for the Elvish Champion though, or is it an old design?

Urza's Saga. Enchantment, pay W, prevent next damage that would be dealt to you this turn by a land.

Right...*smacks his elder with a few Lightning Bolts* I may be a youngin', but I've got plenty of the old goodies.
Anyone remember Lim-Dul's Paladin?

I recall an "advertisment" in one of my old Inquest magazines of a feature film based on Magic: The Gathering. It was apparently based on the Tempest Cycle, and it was going to have:
Brad Pitt as Gerrard
Sarah Michelle Gellar as Hannah
Jim Carrey as Squee
Arnold Schwarzenegger as Karn
Dolph Lundgren as Crovax(?)
Sean Connery as Urza
Tim Curry as the Juzam Djinn
with music by N'Sync(!) and Devo(!!)
Given that:
This film would be a travesty on many levels, ruining the careers of many, wasting millions of dollars, and scorching the minds of gamers everywhere.
Was this a joke?

It was all a joke, of course, but it was a pretty damn cool poster (got it hanging on my wall).

*prevents the lightning bolt damage with forcefield*

not enough old goodies ...

Anyway...
We really need to see about getting together (those of us still owning decks) and playing. After all, we can STGOD this all day, but the proof is in the decks, gentlemen.

I picked up a Core Set Box today. I'm going to try playing online, but I heard that you actually have to pay for online cards. Is that insane or what?
