Eh, Consequences, Mesa isn't part of the Solarian League. They are independent. And just get SL support...

No, they're League. It's mentioned in "A Beautiful Friendship" that Mesa is Solarian. In fact they have a rep in even six centuries ago.

Hey, we're the good guys, remember?

Oh, yeah. That little war was just a mistake.
Dahak wrote:But that "evidence" would be hard to believe. Even MAnticore wouldn't buy it... Considering Haven's hatred for slavery...
*Shrug* Wouldn't be the first to sell their prinicples out for the sake of power.

I resent that slaves thing, strombringer. This would be*totally* out of character for Havenites. Especially such as Foraker, Theisman, and Pritchard.
So it's either forged, and someone should be aware of it, or else you change that...

I thought you red Crown of Slaves?
There it'S said that Mesa is not really part of the Solarian league, and that they are independent.

I refuse to kiss up to those hypocrites. If it is determined that they aren't League members, and they don't have enough influence to get the League on my ass, then they are going down. In any case, Haven's help would assist in keeping the League from overreacting.
And unfortunately, I haven't been able to read CoS yet, just the thirty preview chapters up at thefifthimperium.com , so I'm a little in the dark about the most recent developments. PM me with any incredible revelations please, so that we don't have to turn off half of the Weberite faction with spoiler warnings

Reading it.
That might have changed since then. Or Dave might have made an oopsy. The story was an old one.

Don't take the game personally, Dahak.
Second of all. I am aware of just how well that fits with their characters. But part of the game is intell. Nothing says it's real, but some of the characters might believe it's real and act on it.

From CoS:
""All right, so Mesa is an independent star nation, but you know what I mean. Since we're being so blunt and frank here, let's both go ahead and admit that for all its independence, the system is encysted right in the middle of the Solarian League. Sure, officially it enjoys sovereignty and the right to pursue its own diplomatic and military policy, but do you really think even League bureaucrats would put up with a loose warhead in the middle of their own territory? Puh-leeze!" She rolled her eyes. "The one thing no bureaucrat will ever tolerate is anything that threatens to destabilize her personal patch of turf.""
The sector gouvernor is anti-slavery, and actually thumbed Mesa already. I don't know how the SL as a whole might react, but Mesa isn't very popular, especially in that sector, where it all happens. I really don't think that they'd wage outright war with any major player over Mesa...

Luckily for Anderman, they're to far away from Haven to enter a live-action shooting war

Looks like Dave did make a mistake. But it makes sense. And as that says, Mesa and it's Manpower offspring are entrenched in the Solarian League. I doubt they'd take it lying down. They might not like them but the Mesans are useful.
Besides, shouldn't we leave this to the Sollies?

Yupp.
I'm really curious as how it will develop. Obvisouly the air is getting awfully thin for Mesa at the end of CoS.
And the future for the SL isn't so bright anymore.
I think we might start to see the disintegration of the SL in the next few books...

No offense, but if you want to discuss the books open a thread for it.

Hoody-Hoo! That means we get to carve it up between us.
I'll give the Sollies a chance to handle their business, but I'm still going to make preparations to ruthlessly curb-stomp Mesa. Its really the only humane thing to do(Isn't it awesome when you get to curbstomp someone and be a humanitarian at the same time?).

Yes

Dahak, just so you know, the Andies never divulged their information about the slave trade with Haven.

Yes. We imperialistic militant of the Andermani Empire are a bit tighter lipped than the decadent fops of Manticore.

Just trying to keep people reasonably in character here. *puts away tape recorder, runs off to media to release recording of the Andermani admitting they are imperialistic and militant, realises that everyone already knows, goes to order a pizza instead.

As am I. The Andies always struck me as being very tight lipped about intelligence matters. Especially since they seem to know just about everyone's secrets.
