The Official Episode III spoiler thread

Damn
The piece of artwork you see at the top is official pre-production artwork of the creation of Vader scene from Episode 3. 'Burnt' Anakin is a composite of several different official images (i.e. it's not a fake).
And General Grievous

Oh my God, that looks horrible (and I mean good).
And Grievous looks great. Good to finally see a full official image of him. Looks pretty much exactly how I thought.
Episode III keeps looking better as the days go by...

I could see them getting away with the full body by only using it in short, quick cuts. They may be able to get away with the head, I think. PG films can still get away with quite a bit.
It's good that the image is only a composite of other official images, since Anakin's cybernetic arm is technically wrong: it should go to halfway up his upper arm, not halfway up his forearm.

Yeah, tfn has this to say about the arm:
The burned Anakin pic is genuine ... from a certain point of view.
The face, neck, body, and legs are composited together from 3 real images from makeup tests for Episode III. The robotic arm is from Episode 2 composited and colored in. Credit originally should go to an insider named Timberwolf, but obviously at this point that is inconsequential.

The General Grevious webdoc is up for Hyperspace members (couldn't see anyone else posting it). Not too much more info than say watching the Clone Wars Cartoons though ... bit disapointing really.

I don't think this is really a spoiler but I don't think it really needs its own thread either so I guess I'll post it here.
Anyways, I thought it was kind of interesting. It's an official summary of Episode III from the official site.

I agree. I figured the war would have lasted at least 5 years.Stofsk wrote:Only 3 years? Doesn't that seem... short, to people? I mean for a galactic-spanning Civil War. You'd think it would last a lot longer.
On the other hand, perhaps it doesn't have to last that long at all. I dunno, I just seem... weirded out about the length.
Hell, World War II lasted six.

A war can last only Six Days, or go on for a Hundred Years. A war is a war: it really doesn't matter how long it lasts.
After all, the Galactic Civil War, once it really got going, lasted four years (Battle of Yavin to Battle of Endor).

No it did not, Spanky. The Galactic Civil War is very murky, really.
I suppose legally it began with the Declaration of Rebellion against the Galactic Empire issued after the Corellian Treaty by the newly founded Alliance to Restore the Republic, about a year or so before Yavin, IIRC, and ended with the the signing of the armistice by acting Chief of State Ponc Gavrisom of the New Republic and Fleet Admiral Pelleaon of the Imperial Remnant nineteen years later.
From the Declaration of the Rebellion to the founding of the Alliance of Free Planets, the Galactic Civil War was simply an internal rebellion against the Galactic Empire.
From the founding of the Alliance of Free Planets until the founding of the New Republic, it was a full-scale war between the Alliance of Free Planets and the Galactic Empire.
From the founding of the New Republic until the assassination of Imperial Interim Council Xandel Carivus, it was a full-scale war between the New Republic and Galactic Empire.
From the of Imperial Interim Council Xandel Carivus until the founding of the Imperial Remnant by former Fleet Admiral of the Oversector Outer starfleet (not of the Imperial Navy), Daala, it was a skirmish war between "Imperial" warlords and the New Republic.

EDIT: Earlier dating placing the Clone Wars at around 35 BBY had them lasting around 5-10 years, IIRC.

Bah, you and your trivial truth.
My point was that it really doesn't matter at all how long a war lasts, as it doesn't always directly relate to its impact.

Would that really be a bad thing? A PG-13 rating would probably make it loose some of the bad taste that TPM left in many's mouths as being a 'kiddie' movie. The Kernel wrote:How the hell are they going to get a PG rating with an image like that? After receiving my newest Insider with information about creating General Grievous, I can't help but wonder if he'll merely be another Maul or if he'll actually have a developed character. I'm hoping he plays a large role in the movie, since they claim he's the new "icon of evil." Somehow I believe that is not going to be the case.

That does sound encouraging. I read in Insider that his voice will sound somewhat like a droid's too (processed). And that you do find out what the hell he is, if he's an alien version of Darth Vader or if he is a droid with genetic implants, and why that happened to him.

The Official Site just put up the most recent Making of Episode III documentary. This one was about weapons.
Couple things that stood out to me:
Wookie weapons: The scene in EP3 with the Wookies should be pretty interesting. These are by far some of the largest blasters I've every seen in SW. One of their pistols is so large Lucas was wielding it with two hands. And they all got progressively larger from there.
A new energy staff carried by General Grievious's bodyguard droids:
Lucas has apparently cooked up a weapon that can counter a lightsaber yet is not a lightsaber. It's basically a transparent rod with components inside which generate a force field that blocks a lightsaber's blade. The clip never showed it functioning but the prop itself is a very good design.

We don't ever get to see how he does it, but the idea of retaining your identity after you've passed on is something that Ben learned as a Jedi." -Pablo Hidalgo and George Lucas

So General Grievous and his bodyguard droids duel the Jedi with lightsabers or staffs capable of standing up to them. But presumably Grievous and his droids are neither Force sensitive nor Force immune like the Vong or ysalimiri. So why don't the Jedi just Force-toss them into walls/scramble their circuits/pick them up and leave them hanging there? How can a non-Force-sensitive be a feared Jedi killer with their own weapons? I would like to see an explanation for this in the movie or novelization.
The General himself is both biological and mechanical. If you look at his face, you see biological eyes (actually Darth Mauls, though the characters are completely different according to the animators). Some of what the new SWI says suggests he was a living being and likely force sensitive who considers mechanical to be vastly superior to biological and thus began replacing body parts until that.Eframepilot wrote:So General Grievous and his bodyguard droids duel the Jedi with lightsabers or staffs capable of standing up to them. Frankly, the sunken eyes make him look more sad then terrifying to me.
