“Mister President, we find that incinerating entire countries gives meaning to our lives and enhances our manliness.”

Ah such a wonderful quote, so wonderfully twisted...

that'll happen around the time you embrace Brady's gun control measures.

The most nerve racking sight was to watch the black smoke rise from the "Christmas Tree" and watch those 8 mothers taxi for an "elephant walk"...you pray to God they don't take off, especially the first time you see it happen. I got the privilige of watching the 68th BW do that several times before inactivation at "Shady J" in the "bad ol' days" of the early 80's.
My dad had the pleasant(?) experience of watching firsthand as XB-52 and YB-52 were put through initial trials at Boeing's Seattle plant. By firsthand, I mean watching from the electrical shop near the main hangars.
He described it as this: Tex Johnston (aka the man who barrel-rolled a 707) was tasked with testing the performance of the BUFF. One of those tests was a full power takeoff -- everything pushed to the firewall and then some.
According to him, the noise was unbearable even standing over at the electrical shop wearing hearing protection. The ground was literally shaking. And he said that it was an awesome sight to see the prototype rocket ahead as Tex poured on the coals, then take off at a very steep angle. That thing was climbing, and climbing hard. I don't remember what angle he said it was at, but it was damned steep.

Yeah, Crusade should be wrapping up soon. He's thinking of doing a non-bomber story next, though.

It's already longer than TBO and TGG in terms of number of sections.
