A small MP question:

Someone told me there was a way to reduce your player/team's Health and shields in a multiplayer game.

I can't seem to find it. Is this guy bullshiting me?

Critical Weakness of the Ghost...some may know this, others may not.

What I assume is the fuel tank of the Covenent Ghost isn't well protected on the vehicle and might be considered a fatal flaw. If you look at the vehicle closely, you will find a circular protrusion on the port side of the vehicle, just fore of the cockpit. This feature does not appear on the starboard (right) side of the craft, only the left.

I have found (On Normal Difficulty) that a pair of bursts from the Battle Rifle or as little as 4 rounds from the SMG into that disc-like object will cause an undamaged Ghost to explode in a ball of bluish-fire. This explosion seems to kill the driver instantly and render the vehicle completely destroyed.

I have found no other points like this on other vehicles though....

Got four hours in, damn what a game, and I think I'll have to post my dedication to the Elite on the first Arbiter mission who survied with me from first contact through the Control room to the near end of the mission were you get reforced(And they hold the landing zone goody)

Thats right an Elite has done what no Marine has yet done with me... survive the level he was in :P

Also that as Master Chief, your the baddest ground-pounder the UNSC has, whereas with the Arbiter, you are given inferior armor & shields and are expected to die over the course of your mission.

I finally played this yesterday at a bud's house. Didn't do much single player, but a few comments on multiplayer...

Rock launchers home? GAH! Coagulation is no fun with rocket launchers. And the Banshee is completely useless as well. Though if you can form a deal with the other players to not use them, there is much fun to be had.

Kicking people off vehicles from behind is hilarious. You just hop up and bitch slap them right off. I've also developed a technique for kicking someone's ass who tries to knock you off your vehicles from the front or side. Since you can still get out of the vehicle while the animation of the player jumping on the hood is still happening, you get out and give up the vehicle, but stick a plasma grenade on the side as you run away. The theif won't have enough time to evacuate, and will be thoroughly exploded.

Also: what happened to Master Chiefs throwing arm? He used to be able to lob grenades a bazillion miles in any direction, now he throws like a sissy. It seems they made a trade off of the baseball pitcher arm for the basketball player jumping ability.

Yeah...better shields and better playing scheme will do that for ya.

Personally for me when I'm MC, don't care about my buds. Arbiter...I at least know the Elites have got my back in some way that's decent enough to care.

That would be the handicap. While playing, press start and go to handicap. Set it to anything other than "none", and your player will be damaged (to an extent determined by which setting you select, of course). There might be other effects too, but I don't know of any.

A Plasma Pistol/SMG works wonders. The pistol to take out the shields and SMG to finish them off.

I was playing multi and got a killtacular with that combo.

I got a kil frenzy one time and that was in a CTF match i was in a wraith, I run down two guy at the same time with it and fired my cannon and killed three others. I managed to kill every member on the team it was great. Other than that i have only gotten double kills

For multi?

Dual Needlers.

For single...Dual Brutes

I have several combos lately. I seem to be playing against a very varied cast.

Single, Dual Brute Plasmas now that I'm that far in the game.
Multi depends

Usually Plasma Rifle and SMG. One strips the shields, the other strips the life. I'll use that plasma pistol every now and then, but only if I know there's going to be some manuvering room for the other guy. That way if it's close enough it will track.

Close quarters has become the Shotgun/Sword.
Long range to close usually has me with the Battle Rife/Sword. I can hit people from a distance but when I finally get close I can pull the sword out.

A couple more things that I've noticed since I've gotten a bit more playing time:

-I like the fact that the Marines and the Covenant finally have GPMG's. It's one of the little omissions that irritated me about the first game.

-I'm beginning to like the Brute Shot. Ammo is absurdly scarce and the splash effect of the rounds isn't that impressive but, when the Covies are packed tightly in corridors it's devastating. Also the melee attack is second only to the Energy Sword. I would even argue it's better in some respects since there is no limit of the number of strikes you can inflict. Mainly though I tend to use it to set off grenade chain reactions after dropping a few Grunts.

-I've been playing Live the last few days in the Rumble Pit and the SMG and Magnum are my lifeblood. I used to mix Covenant and Human weapons but they really don't put enough hurt into a guy fast enough. I'd keep finishing matches at the bottom of the heap. I started using the human weapons exclusively and I get way more 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes. Two SMG's at the head will drop a guy in about 5 seconds. With the needler you've got to wait for the rounds to explode before they deliver their full damage. By the time that happens he will have dropped you with his SMG's. I will admit though, that two plasma rifles are pretty potent as well mainly because they have better accuracy.

-I keep reading all these folks bitching on other message boards about how weak the pistol is. I don't know what they are talking about. 4 out of 5 times a Magnum/SMG combo will beat any other combo I see the other guys using. Even faster with two pistols. Now its one of the better close quarter weapons in the game.

They're bitching about alot of things. Mainly they're complaining that the pistol lost it's scope. Personaly, I don't have a problem with this. If you need to zoom, that's what the battle rifle is for. I mean, God forbid that Bungie designs a pistol that actually *GASP* behaves like a pistol.

It could be because the Spec Ops Commander, much like Sgt. Johnson, is completely invincible. But yes...having half a dozen elites is much better than having marines helping you out. They just don't have as many jokes.

Works great against people with plasma swords. The needles cover the whole screen and are almost the same color as the target reticle, so it's hard for them to see you and even harder to know if they've locked on.

Obviously, this does not work against the AI. I wonder if there are any websites that sell those ODST shirts, as seen on Bungie employees in the Behind the Scenes DVD.

One thing I found amusing was staring at people:

Corporal Perez-type Marine- "Sir, you're freaking me out, Sir."
Female Redhead "Tight Quarters"-type Marine- "So... You gonna ask me out or something?"
Female Redhead "Tight Quarters"-type Marine- "Yeah, that's why they call it a breastplate."

Did anyone else notice that some specific Marines seem to have huge amounts of Health? Female Black-Haired ["Blew Right Through Us"-type] Marine and Sergeant Stacker and I blasted our way through the entirety of Regret on Normal [and maybe Delta Halo, I get those two levels melded together a lot].

I mean, the woman faced down four hunters in 2 places while I sniped them, and survived strafes by Phantoms and Banshees. She only died after being mobbed by a pair of Honor Guard in Regret's throne room, and even then if I had another second of time I could have killed them for her. Stacker was with me at the end of the level, too and survived. With only Battle Rifles.

In Halo 1, Stacker and the woman would die before we even got to the first Sea-Elevator.

Maybe the UNSC has created a MJOLNIR-Lite armor that doesn't kill non-Spartans? Hell. Maybe the cries of mercy (or agony) when marines died did not fall on deaf ears at Bungie.

I'm pretty sure that in the books they mention adding a gel-layer to the Marines' body armor at some point, to disperse heat from the plasma. Since, obviously, it worked so well on the MJOLNIR equipment and was a good idea in the first place.
