US Army, Infantry during Active Duty (1986-88), Reserves since then. Currently a Sergeant in US Army Reserves as a Combat Engineer. Also played with tanks for two years but didn't like that much.
Get your fill of sci-fi, science, and mockery of stupid ideas

Another Sergeant, so that's 3 plus two occifers, a number of Tankies, assorted NCO marines, two techs (navy and Air Force), a Sailor and an MP.Oh, well.
I loved my time in and had a lot of fun; I was in Germany in 1987 for REFORGER and absolutely loved it. I spoke some German and could get along with the locals real well. The girls are cute. It was way cool to visit East Berlin while I could-- so odd to think that wall isn't there anymore.
I also got to play in the US Army's #1 playground: NTC, National Training Center in the Mojave Desert.
In the Reserves I did some desk & Intel work for a couple years but thgat drove me nuts, so I tried M1tanks for awhile and that was only marginally better (my Lieutenent was one of those officer types that would set up a lawn chair and drink Pepsis while the rest of us would work. He was the only officer I ever had a serious problem with.)
But in 1992 I went to Reserve Engineers and now I'm a Sapper, and it's fun. I'm Infantry at heart, though.
It seems on this board we could form maybe two squads (some of whom would be more of a technical support type nature) and kick a LOT of ass. Lets form our own merc unit....![]()

Indeed, we could form a sub-group of the Heavy Armour Brigade or even our own little group. No need for a private Forum just an indicator in the sig (the Heavy Armour Brigade Forum already handles the Military stuff well enough, no need to duplicate it.) Any suggestions for a name for our Merc outfit?Coyote wrote:I got my hard stripes in 1998 so you trump me. I've always done well with grenades (expert) but my rifle skills, I admit, are middle-of-the-road. I do always score in the top 10% for physical fitness scores, though. I've got a lot of stick time with the M-113 series and I am good with AK series weapons (frequently better than with the M-16! I'm a heretic!).
We could get some cool IFVs aftermarket (I'm currently fond of either the Stryker [US Army version of the LAV] or the South African Rooikat) for the Tankers to drive while us grunts pound the brush and perforate multitudes of foes...
Also good: a variety of training styles and backgrounds-- US Army and Marines, British, German, Scandinavian... well-rounded group...
Corellian Gunboat as transport (a few bits of false superstructure and you have a passable modular Transport lookalike), Small Shuttles for team moves and Sentinels for Platoon moves.CmdrWilkens wrote:Just about, the only problem might be obtaining the weapons and heavy vehiclesRob Wilson wrote:Another Sergeant, so that's 3 plus two occifers, a number of Tankies, assorted NCO marines, two techs (navy and Air Force), a Sailor and an MP.Coyote wrote:<snip>

We are open to Suggestions (double meanings in the suggested name a bonus). So fire away.spongyblue wrote:Hey, I'm down for the merc biz as soon as I get out. I'm only an average grease monkey at this point but in 4.5 years, who knows. Whats the name gonna be?
In Britain you can join (with written permission) at 16, otherwise it's 17yrs. Though the norm is/was to wait until they were 17.5 before accepting applications. This may have changed though. The Duchess of Zeon wrote:All the armed services accept 17 year olds with their parents' written permission.phongn wrote:

Anyone want to handle a possible 1033/TOE for if I or others want to do some Fanfic with us guys?

Well I was just thinking of using our characters (I've noticed that very few of us use 'online persona's') but set in the SW/ST/Where ever universe.Coyote wrote:Hmm....Rob Wilson wrote:Corellian Gunboat as transport (a few bits of false superstructure and you have a passable modular Transport lookalike), Small Shuttles for team moves and Sentinels for Platoon moves.

In the "Fanfics" section I suggested people post charavcter types they'd like to see themselves as. We should consider what the closest SW equivilent of ourselves would be and put up a brief bio. Either ex-Rebels or ex-Stormies (although most SW and EU sources insist that Stormies only leave the service feet first).
Our Navy or Air Force guys might have been able to pool together to get a ship and us grunts would populate it and prepare for action...
not really if you have someone who knows how to build stuff real well...CmdrWilkens wrote:Just about, the only problem might be obtaining the weapons and heavy vehiclesRob Wilson wrote:Another Sergeant, so that's 3 plus two occifers, a number of Tankies, assorted NCO marines, two techs (navy and Air Force), a Sailor and an MP.Coyote wrote:<snip>

How about something like Karrde's freighter? It should carry enough room for a few heavy things while not being overly crew-intensive.Sea Skimmer wrote:Hard part is hauling anything along. Yeah, an Action IV class freighter with a few surprises.
I think it goes without saying that most of us would have to have been Ex-Imps post-Endor to get the hardware. As to other (non-Imp) members, Ideoligy takes a back seat to pragmatic capitalism.Rob Wilson wrote: Layout : Bay1 = 2 Sentinel class shuttles, plus any ground vehicles.#
