The empire file has been uploaded.
So are we having a Babylon station or what?

Only if the EA constructs it. Us Minbari won't do it.

Well, the folks back home are going to expect a return on such a significant investment of funds that could otherwise have gone to tightening planetary security, tax cuts, or greater social services. We're as interested in peace as any other power, but we'll wait and see how things play out elsewhere before making such a move. After all, it'd be a real shame if we were to establish a center of diplomacy and trade, only to see the galaxy erupt into war shortly thereafter.
"Sir, there's-"
Excuse me, Diane, but I'm in the middle of something here. Can't it wait?
"Sir, there's a man here who's demanding to speak to you. I've tried shooing him away but he won't list-"
"Now listen to me! I'm J. Michael Strazinsky and I'm telling you that you have to build Babylon 5! If you don't... if you don't, then what will people say their destination is in the teaser intro of every other episode of my hit sci-fi series? And for that matter what will I call it? Surely you can see my predicament Mr. President!"
If you'll excuse me... the natives are restless. (As always.)

You know, if we have a seasoned Vorlon player (at least in RP terms) to play with the Shadows, we could get a pretty good Semi-STGOD going, with SEIV kinda being the backdrop.
Instead of mashing each other into dirt, said two players need to guide the others into fighting their own proxy war. Since a war with a neighbor would be a 'big deal' instead of just something you MUST eventually do, ya know?
In such a setting, a Neutral System with a Babylon Station would be awfully cool to have (and EA gets to patrol it).
No offense to your friend, Gups. But the Vorlons/Shadows in this game are HARD. Powerful, but they have the 'Nomads' limitations of being shipbased with no colony techs, and other things. Ask him perhaps to play some Single player first to get a feel for it...

On the one hand, I bet I could do a decent job RPing the Vorlons, partially as I'm actually in the middle of working through the series again. On the other hand, I still think it'll be fun being Earth Alliance.
I would certainly be interested in a more RP-focused B5 game.
How do supplies work in the B5 game? Is it more like the ST mod or more like stock SE4 or something completely different?

Err, that's kind of what we're planning to do.

If I understand correctly Nephtys and Uraniun235 want the RP to rule the mechanics rather than the other way around. This might be hard to do. I know for sure some people did not sign up for RP but for the game itself.
Anyway the game doesn't start until there's 8 thumbs up and I'm sensing some thumbs down so I'll hold for a little bit.

IIRC, the reactors provide x amount of supply capacity and totally replish it every turn. The only way you can run out of fuel is if you expend it all in a single turn.
Edit: I'd be willing to give this RP stuff a shot if the others are, so long as we don't need to know really specific details about the show. I've read enough fics and stuff to know the basic idea:
Shadows like chaos and conflict, "What do you want?"
Vorlons like order and peace, "Who are you?"
Shadows back greedy leaders who want more power/territory/etc. (e.g. the Centauri Emperor

) and Vorlons help those who fight said greedy leaders. Straightforward enough.
Oh, BTW, has anyone figured out the point of the derelict ship worlds that you can colonize but not put any people onto?

Weren't you the one worried about badly RPing the Romulans? You're doing great with them.
Anyway the problem isn't that, but that some people have expressed a direct interest in not RPing. It all comes down to how much we want RP to rule game mechanics. For the ST game, you can play and not RP at all or infrequently. If the Shadows and Vorlons and Babylon 5 are constructed the RP will have to rule the game mechanics with nobody declaring war on a whim, warships respecting rules of engagement and not bombing civilian planets, and the Vorlons and Shadows manipulating things in the background. In other words not participating in RP in a game where RP superceded game mechanics is not possible.
So, I am not sure about this "heavy" RP suggestion like an STGOD.
Oh, BTW, has anyone figured out the point of the derelict ship worlds that you can colonize but not put any people onto?
Code: Select all
Name := Derelict
Physical Type := Planet
Stellar Size := Tiny
Max Facilities := 0
Max Population := 0
Max Cargo Spaces := 0
Max Facilities Domed := 0
Max Population Domed := 0
Max Cargo Spaces Domed := 0
Constructed := False
Special Ability ID := 0
Looks like nothing. The only thing I can think of is you can put a satellite or base in orbit with a remote miner to take advantage of it.

I was worried about RPing the Centauri, not the Romulans, but I've read up on them a bit and it seems like it would be simple enough to do.

Can we just go with what we have and get started? Who cares if this race is hard to play, or that race should be played a certain way? We'll all be making rookie mistakes, and it's not like you're out of the game once you surrender.

You know what, why the hell not. I'm going to leave the RP thread to be worked out later, and if Kijiro is not interested in SE:IV or doesn't know how to play GuppyShark can help and we can all help. Plus I have a distinct feeling that someone who
wants to play the Vorlons probably knows a lot about the Vorlons. If he thinks SE:IV is boring, we can always get a replacement player later. Plus, I think Kijiro can cut it.

You're all right. We don't have to RP like crazies and stuff. This mod makes long term 'rampaging' military assault hard anyway, so we'll be fighting and such but not in the way of normal SEIV (where one war can cost you everything.)
As for EA... hrm. If they expend the resources to make a Babylon Station (which can be threatened, protected, and filled with Drama!) then that'd be a neat side-bonus. Maybe figure out some kinda practical benefit to it. Or we can just RP a station that's not there.

Ouch. I just started my turn. My home systems bite.
Neither has a single 'green' planet, and one has like four tiny reds.
I guess it was my turn to get the Dalton treatment this game

This is probably best. Centauri, Minbari, Vorlons and the Shadows are going to carry the RP and it looks like all three are going to be around. Probably Narn too when Dalton gets more free time. I'll be there when I can, stealing your women (and men) and pawning stolen starfuries and ships hahaha.
Raiders should honestly be pirates, that they aren't really blows.

Brian, did you get my email? I forgot my password...

PBW can't change the password that's stored in the .gam file. That means you entered in the wrong password when you signed up for the game.
Going to have to ask the PBW Admins to hack the .gam file. Game will be on ALPU for a bit, I'll ask them.
<edit>Actually you know what I just remembered it takes a turn, you have to miss a turn before they can change it. So try and remember, if not we have to restart the game because that's 200k worth of research points down the drain for Dalton.</edit>
PBW wrote:If you set it wrong, we cannot get it back for you. Your game owner will have to reset the password for you, requiring you to miss a turn of your game.
So, game over. Sorry. Did the password happen to be the same one as your ST game?

Damn. Well you can re-make your empire right now and send it to me through e-mail. Then I can replace the turn and everybody will have to do their first turn all over again. No big deal.

*whistle* We could always restart. I need to *ahem*, change my leader's name. It's not accurate at the moment.

If anyone can RP Vorlons, it's Kojiro. IMO.
Neither he nor I are planning to omgwtfpwn the galaxy (with Ancients, that would be pretty cheap), I have my unofficial win condition and assume he has his.
Do not go to Zha'ha'dum...

Ah ha, good I knew you and Kijiro would be good, it's better if you're friends too.
Unofficial win condition eh, I'm guessing if either of you can convince all the younger races to go along and squash the other guy...

Honesty at its finest, May Valen be with you. Just make sure to turn off your stealth armor so my Orlando Bloom Pirate Captain can hit your ships.

Yeah, might as well restart. I can't remember my old password, but it should still have the one I changed it to.
Neph, you owe me one
