We're trying go reform the country out of its slaver-economy through ways that don't involve launching biochemical weapons to kill one hundred million people.

You know, rumor has it that an entire war was fought in the North American continent that resulted in a "cold turkey" post-slavery economy.

For 10 years. Looks like Shepistanis really are illiterate :P

I'd like to remind you that their government went against the people by doing this. Or did you fully expect a sane government to just say "fuck you, subjects!" and just release the slaves, prompting riots and/or civil war?

Furhermore, your goddamned ultimatum pretty much guaranteed war, since it included "abolish slavery" and "submit to foreign occupation" in one convenient non-negotiable package.
MKSheppard wrote: Ah, I believe this is the "How can you save Draka Slaves by burning their eyes out!" argument used in the Drakaverse.
If the Draka rolled over for everyone (including ceding their sovereignty to a foreign monarch) then the argument would be completely valid.

I think it was some dirty pool you pulled.
I'm awaare people aren't here 24/7, neither am I. But so? Something happened. You came along, reacted.. matter settled.

If someone attacks the CSR while I'm asleep, I would come to the game and then normmally proceeed with a response.

Which also involved lots of death and suffering, and was fought against a completely uncooperative government, not one which rolled over and ceded its sovereignty.

Though the Civil War is why, incidentally, I don't think Norseman's assertion that his economy will take a hit are valid.

I'm so sad you've never heard of the old tricks that mining companies, etc used to keep their employees in debt constantly to them; by always changing the prices at company stores, etc, issuing paychecks only in company scrip. Same principel also applies to Indentured servitude. What's to say that 8 years into the agreement, the Astarian government "Reforms" it, so that "vital war industry workers" are kept on longer than 10 years?

That's the whole point. Either submit, or cease to exist. They chose to cease to exist as a nation.

So why exactly did Astaria - which was going to cooperate with the outside world in reforming its system - get attacked by biological weapons? Aside from Shep being a dick?

Fuck this. Even without nukes he makes the game totally shit.

EDIT:

They did submit. To us, the people who aren't total pricks.

For me it's particularly bad...there are only a few machines hooked up to the internet at the faiclity where I work, so I have to come in earlier than everyone else to get a chance to use a machine. There was a very good chance that I would not have been able to respond to it 14 hours or so after the fact.

Basically, any such delays after such a post in game(this is what Shep pulled in the last game, you may recall) may lead to other folks posting in reaction to it and by the time the target has a chance to respond(we're seeing this with Norseman and shep now, by the way) the story will have diverged to the point of no return/retcon.

Then you can genocide them. Which also, conveniently, avoids killing foreign officials working to repatriate illegal slaves.

It's not like your awesome SSANs and giant stockpiles of bioweapons will cease to exist in ten years.

Meh, I've been growing steadily more apathetic towards the game anywhoo. If shit gets bad, the public will oust Prime Minister Shroom for getting into war over some shithole like Asstaria that no one cares about, and then Shroom can just go 'fuck it' and retire peacefully with Alison. :P

(The game has always been more fun and interesting when it's not about going to war with fancy dick-toys. The little bits were awesome, not this crap.)

Veg really brought it on him by that entire crying reporter who got Spit roasted.

He always does things like that; he once ended a previous RPG on Marina's Divine Salamis site by writing in graphic detail about how his PC was anally violated (to the point of bloody rectums). It killed the RPG at that point.

So what? That's his character, and if the character consented to it, then what's wrong?

Fuck, would you eradicate Shroomania if Lady Anethga and Alison ambushed the Prime Minister and did naughty things to him? :P

Shep does not like Astaria. That's enough for the war.

* sheds a few sparse tears *

I support this war because I see it as a useful test on Shep vs. WARPAC-level military war. It also expends Shep's weapons and thus weakens him. Likewise it weakens Astaria. And if Japaanistan clashes with Shep in a proxy war...

Good. Mission accomplished.

Better yet, an open war between Shep, Skimmer, Astaria and Old Dominion. Once they killed each other completely, we will carry the game onwards.

Mmm... oh yeah, I do have evidence to lead me to suspect that Norseman is some kind of depraved sexual deviant.

Anyway, I've been needing some time-out from this game. It's consuming my soul! I should've never involved myself with those Goddamn Astarians. It's just like Terra Libertia all over again! FUCK!

I doubt I'll cry over Sheppos and Astarians who die. If Japs, Cascadians, Sirnothi or Dominion dudes die, well I'm not crying either.

However, Shroomania of all places doesn't deserve to get into this war.

Why.. would Dominion get involved? They pretty much said "Fuck the Astarians".

Ah, no matter. They were fighting in the last war that happpened, against Shep. I just thought it would be nice if Shepistan and OD killed each other in that Shepland place. Like, finally.

I wouldn't call the establishment of indentured servitude "abolishment of slavery".
Identured servitude for ten years, note that ten years, not an unspecified period of time. Indeed right off the bat I specified how long the indentured would last and it is ten years. As indentured servants they cannot assume debt, and as such once those ten years are up (or once someone pays up their indenture bond) they must be freed.

I am simply sad that Shep decided the best way to end suffering in Astaria is to simply kill everybody in the country. Especially after Norseman went through all those various brilliant political schemes against his own people just to avoid precisely this outcome.

This shows, as far as my government is concerned, that no nation is safe. What if some PeZookian practice is deemed immoral enough for Shepistan to decide we'd be better off managed by a foreign power?

Therefore, PeZookia has decided to start its own bioweapons program. Anybody ties to interfere in our internal matters despite shows of goodwill, we'll fucking kill everyone.
