"My navy uses missle pods. We can set up your battleships with some if you like, could your software handle controling them?" Asked the Lord Protector.

"Great fleets of robot-probes?" Drealaan considered the numbers, "The numbers we would need, even if we did know the basic direction in which our quarry was, is that even within our capacity?" he considered for a moment. "I would much prefer to see the outcome of a full scientific report before I went ahead and decided how to best locate the machines."Thirdfain wrote:"A wise voice, Admiral." Jerac nodded slightly, a sign of great respect coming from one of the only three full Admirals in the Hajr. ""Agreed," said Admiral Blessinger. "We need to find them now, before its too late. We don't have the time or resources to spend refitting entire fleets with equipment schemes that might not even work.""Allow me to suggest an alternative. All vessels are assigned to eitheer patrol the home worlds, or are sent out in fast reaction forces towards the rim. Meanwhile, we will question Floaters for news of passing fleets, and your own assorted intelligence agencies will do the same on planets and among the Bound populations across Known Space. We will try in that manner to ascertain the direction from which the enemy came, and then use the resources and time which would otherwise be squandered rebuilding our fleets to produce great fleets of robot-probes to search the area for signs of the Machine-Enemy."
"WE understand what you are saying. My full proposal would be this. As is coming up on the viewer now we would keep a large concentration of ships far back from our home worlds, possibly in our bases in deep space. Some ships would be refurbished, others would be sent to hunt for planets from which they came. This would allow for us to find systems, be ready for us to hunt them down, and have specialized fleets dedicated for battle against them.
"Our Kincaid drive, while slower than most FTL systems, is also quite compact. We could provide engines, and the probes could be even smaller than our Kincaid torpedoes. We could build hundreds of thousands, if we pooled our resources, at only moderate cost to each of our powers.""Great fleets of robot-probes?" "It would certainly be a publics works project on a massive scale; and there are many dead worlds which could be used to build such devices; after all, they are not for combat, only the most basic equipment would be needed." he paused, it could work, "However, I doubt you'll find any government ready to pass over 30% of its industrial capacity to a fools hope when building warships is a much more understandable offer. I must, however, agree, questioning the locals would be the best course of action, a fleet of that size simply can not pass through the Terran Sphere unnoticed."Thirdfain wrote:"Our Kincaid drive, while slower than most FTL systems, is also quite compact. "Who said anything about using 30% of any power's industrial capacity? We will split the construction up amongst ourselves.""It would certainly be a publics works project on a massive scale; and there are many dead worlds which could be used to build such devices; after all, they are not for combat, only the most basic equipment would be needed." he paused, it could work, "However, I doubt you'll find any government ready to pass over 30% of its industrial capacity to a fools hope when building warships is a much more understandable offer. "If everyone used say 5% for example, that's still a large amount of probes being created. Add in questioning the locals and we'll be able to narrow down the area quite a bit.""Who said anything about using 30% of any power's industrial capacity? "We would be glad to. Where would you like to discuss this, I believe the meeting here is done." The Lord Protector said with a smile. The Ambasador then spoke to the Lord Protector directly stating "We know you have been somewhat interest in forming diplomatic relations with us, and we would more than like to as well. Unfortunate cirucumstances do stand in our way but perhaps now that a consensus has been reached we can discuss these things and fordge a new friendship."

The Prince was immeadietly informed. Drelaan was soon taking to one of the Prince's private offices, one that unfortunatley over looked out apon the sky and on the mountains nearby. It was not a pleasent sight. The Prince, nonetheless, greeted the visitor cheerfully.InnocentBystander wrote: After the conference he went up to the head of the council, asking to speak with the political prince (or whomever is left in charge) before the end of the day.
