Stop being a pussy and express your opinion, I'll join and argue (not abrasively, if there's a misunderstanding and such). You're the one on that board. It'd be poor form for me - or anyone else - to join solely to fight your battle. Who knows, maybe if you bring up ANH's TIEs were supposed to be bluish, that TESB blue TIEs were not a continuity error but deliberate by the filmmakers, and point out that secondary sources now indicate them as well-defined separate models, he'll be convinced and change his mind. Once the issue has been brought up maybe it'd be more appropriate for us to join to argue.

Maybe he'll retcon the TIEs in ANH to be blue instead, just like he gave Artoo the red and blue blinking light to match up with the later movies.

I thought I mentioned already that I had a problem with my account there (as now I'm effectively a "guest"), or else I would already be doing that. I was not asking people to fight my battles for me, but rather to let people know the issue here, and if they agreed with me, to encourage them to show support. Right now there's NO BATTLE, there's no debate, nothing. He just said what he was going to do and you heard the sound of crickets chirping. It just needs one or two people to bring it up and then we can get a fair hearing. If I can get my account working again so I can actually log into the danged forum (I've tried emailing the admin staff about it already), then I'll be on there with my two cents like I was before. I chalk it up to quirks in their board software that I can't log in. I originally thought it was a password glitch, but I can't even get the board to send me my password, nor can I re-register.

I agree, and I appreciate that. But as of now, I'm stuck in the cone of silence. The other option would be to find out his email and contact him directly, but I imagine he's already deluged with email, plus if someone calls him on it publically that's a different story. So whatever, you don't have to do anything you don't want to do.

I doubt that, as he's already released two different editions of ANH:R (content-wise) and declared that he's "done" with it, tired of it, and won't be making any more changes to it.
At first I hated that change... but I can see why he did it now. It seems like the ESB/ROTJ color thing was just how R2 was always supposed to operate, but it was cheaper and easier to just have colored glass/plastic to shine a white light through to simulate the "LEDs" or whatever they're supposed to be with different colors (red and blue on the front, green and yellow on the back).
Mission Accomplished!

Great news guys... the TIEs won't be gray in the final cut. He's turning them gray in order to re-add the blue tint to make them a uniform color (instead of the widely varying tints from gray to purple in the 2004 Editions).
Thanks for your help!
adywan wrote:also there won't be any stardestroyers in the atmosphere in any of the bespin sequences. they belong in space. although we do see the earlier versions landing and taking off in the PT they are different ships, to me, and smaller in size so maybe could travel in and out of the atmosphere but not stardestroyers and they never will in any of my edits.

Apparently (and thankfully) so!

Can you ask him to fix the Falcon's turret "stem"?

Can you be more specific? I will ask him now that I'm in contact with him (via ChefElf's forum).
Last bit on the TIE color issue:
I was looking back through the OT.com thread to see if I'd misunderstood what he said, but it appears that someone suggested he turn the TIEs gray on page 11 of the main ESB thread. On page 29 he seems to go along with it and people agree with him. One person questions him (but doesn't oppose the idea) and he defends it on pages 30 and 31. However his argument seems to indicate that the TIEs should be blue in all the movies, since the models had a blue tint and the "Death Star Squadron" was a rationalization later. I haven't gone through every page since then (I scanned through 1-35 of 50 some odd pages), but it seems like he's just changed his mind, and his new plan to RE-tint (rather than just de-saturate) the TIEs wasn't explained in order to avoid the confusion. If it was, I missed it.
Anyway, I'm glad they're going to be blue!

I have to admit, Galvy's signature makes me want to laugh and cringe and cry all at once. Its the prequel disease in microcosm.

Speaking of which, I wonder if Adywan could restore this gem from a pre-Kasdan draft of TESB as Lucas originally wrote it...

As for the strut, he has already fixed it. In one of the split screen videos you can see instead of just one little stem, the turret now has two stems (spaced apart).

He could only do that if the actual dialog existed... so unless there's a publicly available deleted scene or if this could be realistically dubbed from say the Radio Play (if it's in there) into some existing footage, it's probably not going to happen.
The trouble with inserting deleted footage is that the quality is all so poor compared to the sharpness of the 2004 picture (even pre-cleanup). I remember when SWR was being worked on, I begged and pleaded him to add in the BTM footage of Biggs, but he refused, as the material would never look as good as the surrounding footage (there still isn't any current project to restore that footage yet). Though in the end he did include one of the Biggs scenes (the one after the whole "battle in the sky" scene) with some really minor/basic tweaks (stabilizing the framerate, applying some kind of AA type filter to minimize some of the pixelation).
It couldn't hurt to ask though, I'll pass it along!

Sorry, I don't have one. However, in the time it would take me to capture and upload it, you could have just watched the video yourself and seen that and all the other fixes so far.

Done, and it's fixed, he says.
Edit: I can post on that forum again! Still, if any of you have some suggestions for the guy, I invite you to come to originaltrilogy.com's forum and post. Adywan actually tried to register here to respond to this thread, but the board software recognized his email as a "free account" (even though it wasn't, he says).

Out of curiosity, what is it supposed to look like?
He made it clear in the thread that the fixes were not all necessarily final, so if it could look better, that could be mentioned...

When the cannon is oriented forward, it's actually facing downward from the POV of the gunner. So the "fork" that swivels it up and down is actually horizontal, not vertical.
See an awesome
model of the Falcon here for more views. It looks to me like Adywan should just
lower the cannon instead of adding struts.

A friend of mine had the same problem a while back, but was able to register when I told Mike.

Well it appears the TIEs are back to (light) blue again, and here is how they're going to look:

I like the color changes, but why did they make all the pilots' helmet insignia red?
Posted: 2008-06-29 08:50pm
by Galvatron
To match up with their squadron name.
Then again, I never thought there was a correllation. After all, Biggs and Wedge both have helmets without red (or blue) insignia so it seems to me that rebel pilots just used whatever random gear they had available to them, which fits well with their somewhat ragtag portrayal.
