I think you just explained why your own idea is unworkable.

Beside simply being unworkable, I question the very morality of the concept. There's a significant difference between supporting someone in their time of need, and supporting everyone in perpetuity so they don't have to work.

I don't think that one can argue over how the correct interpretation of the connotation of a word is. It is entirely subjective. Soviet style could mean anything from how I interpreted it (which is that the wealthy were also standing in line, because bread was unavailable to those who could afford to buy expensive fur coats, own multiple houses, etc. like my girlfriends friend did in 1988 Soviet Ukraine), to Jester's, to Mr. Wong's, to meaning that all 147 people were drinking vodka while in line , to the weather being -20. All are correct interpretations. The fact that Soviet has numerous negative connotations in American speech can't have been missed by Duchess, and was part of the drama. Ossus may be an ass, but acting like a 13 year old girl and riling up the board over something that could be discussed seriously is just bad form.
