I'm trying to think what areas I could expand into. Other people had locked up aerospace, telecommunications, and military technology before I could make any progress in the area. However... all these new projects will need financing... and people to do the construction... I don't forsee any trouble getting my fingers in some profitable pies.

I would wait until they hash out the "points" system before you design your country. Stas will likely generate the global map(after you give a map of your country).
Kinda cheeses me off, because a lot of how my military will be set up depends upon my geographical location/neighbors.
Oh well...

Maybe people should first, um, post their
mapses to be integrated? I have a rough idea that Pezook, Fingolfin and me are in the same cluster (USSR-shape fits with Poland-shape and Greece+Turkey-shape), but the rest?
Let's post the mapses. I will integrate them ... just be patient.

I have a month of vacation, plenty of time for
all participants to make and post their maps, and also state their ideas on location.
Also remember, it's best if the world is stretched vertical and is not much more wide than 1024 px (and yet better 800), depending on the scale. I think everyone understands why.

I wouldn't want anything larger than a Kingdom-rated polity anyway.
I was just inquiring since I've always regarded post count alone as not being a good determination of someone's place on the board.

I have post several large maps (check in Shep's reference thread) which we could use.

I don't really care about making geography. Let someone else pick the world map, and I can fit my country in later. After all, countries can't select their locations in real life. But I do like the idea of using the Ace Combat maps.

Yeah yeah...I have a map, I just need to cut out all the random stuff from it.
Also, have fun on vacation with your Ladyfriend.

I'm reusing my old one and will be an island nation once more.
As to location, I was figuring around wherever Coyote or probably Wilkens end up. I don't want to be the one all alone again in the MESS.

A map of the virulently capitalist corporate republic of San Dorado:
Territory is about the size of the state of New York (no surprises there). It can be rotated etc. if such is desirable, as long as the city of La Palma remains an ocean harbour.
If I could be located somewhere near Shroom, that'd be perfect. For the rest it doesn't matter much, although I'd like to be located at least not too close to any obviously belligerent nations. 'T would be more fun to be able to play without worrying about Al-Sheppard's tank horde of doom that could be coming over the mountains at any moment

. Somewhere together with a bunch of other smaller nations would be good as well.

I'll make RogueIce and Phong laugh at me for this.
You can decide the scale when fitting it onto any of the continents, dependent upon how powerful a state you all permit me. And you can feel free to cut the panhandle off partially or up to the Big Bend (the curve where the coastline of the handle meets the western coast of the peninsula) and maybe straighten out the curves along the eastern edge.
I may also want to have some mountains along the spine of the peninsula, like the Apennines of Italy or the various ranges of Greece. Real Florida is nothing more than a bit hilly along some parts of the central spine of the peninsula. The rest is very, very flat.

I thought about Florida, actually. But I didn't want all the stupid penis jokes that would probably have brought forth.
Well that and I have a map with landmarks and city locations and all that other crap already.

I've contemplated something else, admittedly. At one point I was contemplating looking for map parts from Final Fantasy games and stuff.
I guess I could try and *gasp* draw a map. And boy would it look sucky....

For maps, I'd prefer it if a world map could be put up then I could choose a bit of territory to be based on. By the way, who wants to be my ex colonial master?

As I said, I'll be joining, but as a 'Republic' instead of a monarchy this time. More details to come later.

Well on the Final Fantasy front, I've already got the Shinra Republic as my own. And I used a bunch of town names from both FF7 and FF6 FYI.
As to map drawing, way back somewhere Stas posted some links to some RPG world creator thing. It has like a 14 day free trial and that was enough to give me a basic outline. A few geometric shapes and a Map Legend (courtesy of PSP) later, I had my island nation.

The Old Dominion!
The "Left" border, I think, would be good for sharing a border with someone. I'd prefer the right and bottom borders to be facing the ocean.
Or make me an island, whatever.

Ah.
If anything a part of me is reminding me, harshly, that Florida's long coastline and relatively thin peninsula - by scale - poses grave defense concerns in the event of a successful amphibious operation or series of such.. But we can't all have perfectly defensible frontiers, and I don't want just another glob of land.
Any other threads I should post in?

At the moment, not really. You can go vote in that technology poll thread though I think the majority is going with modern at this point. Then there's Shep's datadump thread if you're interested.
But apart from that this is pretty much it so far.

Yeah, some sort of a quick guide would be nice...
Before I forget yet again, I wouldn't be opposed to appointing formal mods this time around, I'd say 3 would be good (no deadlocks, it'll have to be
some decision) to resolve any issues.
EDIT: And I'd support the whole you need to declare stuff. Just getting these massive projects to pop up out of nowhere is pretty BS (and yes we were all a little guilty of that at times). Having secret plans and courses of action and negotiations is one thing, but military programs and R&D should have some form of notice so you can't just one day say out of nowhere "Ha ha I have a Doomsday Weapon and you are all my bitches!"

I'm going to try an almost all new concept. I think a totally landlocked nation would work best for what I have in mind.

Well as with the fantasy world idea, I have a nasty idea for a new world....
basically become the infrastructure king. you know roads, mag-levs, aquaducts, massive grow facilities, underground facilitites, don't ask I'll even try and build things that will be seen from orbit, and advertise.
in Fantasy my goal was to have a metric ton of goblins, just to kill them mining, and building roads, aquaducts, ports, canals, dams, giant walls, strange obolisks, etc. (and you thought ROME was bad, Roma doesn't mine through mountain ranges just so that the grade is gentle with a minimum of turns.) In short dead pawns and butter, butter, butter, butter, butter, butter, until I can afford to build more guns and crew them all.....

Actually, why not someone take the role of Italy? I wouldn't mind indulging in some growling competition over who gets to lord over the other.

This is the main territory I'm going to use, map of the Hubei Province of China. Currently there is no significance of the red part. I'm still thinking of the geography stuff.
I'd like to be at least bordered at the north side, with other sides facing the sea.
