A few nit-picky flavor things:
I cannot imagine someone from Civilization commenting negatively in any way on someone's tobacco use. Tobacco is so universally accepted that it is considered rude to speak against any but the stinkiest cheap cigar. Considering their rather puritanical attitudes toward other addictive substances, I can only assume that tobacco isn't addictive anymore.
Civilization is spelled with a "z," not an "s." Doc Smith would be very adamant about that.

Well this is 30 years after the last book, so I'd assume there'd be some societal change. Basically I'm assuming they've found that smoking is bad for you.Currald wrote:A few nit-picky flavor things:

Quite alright. And somehow, I doubt any civilization or culture would change that much in thirty years.FBHthelizardmage wrote:Well this is 30 years after the last book, so I'd assume there'd be some societal change. Unless it was communist. Then it could be changed in thirty years, and with a deciededly sudden decrease in population. But not in a benevolent dictatership.

They might, actually. The "God(s)" I mean. They're called the sublimed, you see. They are, essentialy, what happens when an individual, group, or spiecies just deciedes to hit the "fuck-it-all" button. Granted, they don't, nessicarily, help out anybody, but there have been speacial cases. There was a case where a section of a spiecies sublimed to create an actual afterlife for the rest of their spiecies.Currald wrote:Hmmm... thirty years after the last book. If things ever get bad enough for the Patrol, I imagine that the Children would get personally involved. God help the Culture then...

What is it with you and using line breaks? And no punctuation, capitalization, and flauting the rules of grammer. It gets rather annoying, you know?XANATOS wrote:the lensmen need no help

If they aquire a working "wormholegenerator" they could do it easily...Currald wrote:Civilization's expeditionary force is probably dead, but I seriously doubt that the Culture can mount a counterattack into another universe.
Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.

Civilization is not a dictatorship. Its Galactic Council is elected.Singular Quartet wrote:Quite alright. And somehow, I doubt any civilization or culture would change that much in thirty years.
