But what about FTL? Is tthere one universally used "hyperspace", or are the many possible FTL methods? And different kinds of weapons, or all TL/Ion cannon stuff?
If it equates to SW tech in power and utility, it's admissible. For example, Phong uses Fold Drive technology to move his ships, which is much faster than hyperdrive but also more power intensive.
Ok, then I will drag something creative out of my brain

Guys, I won't be ready with nation/race info in time... I will just watch this one, and make up crap for the next one of these.

The specific term is "chronometric hyperfold," which is slightly technobabble for "a drive that can displace the ship and anything within an optional radius
r to any point in space-time somewhere in the multiverse." I usually don't use the time-travel aspect because paradoxes suck.
I also have warp, SW-hyperdrive and B5-hyperspace jump point drives installed, but I don't usually use those. It's more for redundancy in case one, two or three of the other drive types fail.

Bah. Only a tailless unnamed

Any FTL is accepted, really. My ships use Culture Hyperspace, which means they are, on general, faster for larger size. THe main reason my ships are so incredibly huge and so incredibyl ineffecient for all their tremendous size.

You'd be amazed what heat will do to properly marbled meat.

Ah hah! I thought so. And with the demise of the SRDC and BoydWorks, I now have a monopoly on toasters!

Remember, if you want it there on time and in perfect condition call Interstellar Express Shippping, quaranteed delivery to anywhere in the galaxy. Whatever it takes IES will get it there. For a price.
Don't fall for our competitors ads. They may be cheaper but, you get what you pay for. All shipments are fully insured and quaranteed on time.

Just two other things: How old can one nation be?
And how large should a fleet be approx.?

HA! The Mafiosi have lots of "quality" toasters at very low prices! Meet me in the alley between Gutter Street and Death Boulevard.

Any age, but if over 300, you should explain why you weren't caught up in the Ultimate War(Perhaps you threw off the bonds of your former empire?)

I think my fleet in the OOB thread should be a good approximation. Small but big pointy teeth.

The idea is that a colony ship got lost ways before, and started in some totally unknown space region, and just lately got contact with other polities, and thus avoided that Ultimate War thingie.

Well, I've posted my empire, so now I'm ready to play. Ok, somewhat ready to play. Right now over at the ASVS STGOD II, my character is battling Halite.

Who said we made them? We "acquire" them and sell them for a hefty profit.

Does suspension of disbelief apply? Like giant, city smashing mechs actually being able to fire their guns without falling apart and all that?

Since magitech, Bolos galore, ten thousand kilometer spaceships, and battlestars (actually enclosing stars) have been done before, I would think mechs would work. How effectively is unknown, depending on the opposition they face.

Hey, Kyle, would you mind if I just hung on to Quaynar Industries? I'd think that, having survived for a couple thousand years before, they would be capable of surviving another three hundred... albeit maybe in diminshed capacity given the state of the galaxy.

Don't be entirely surprised if we apply our physics semi-realistically, and blow your mechs apart ASAP.
Im other news, the Third Empire will be returning, after a sever splintering, which has resulted in the mainline universe portion becoming the People's Republic of Corneria (PRC). The main space combat force is the People's Liberation Navy, and the main ground combat force is the People's Liberation Navy Army. Note that we are socialist, but not communist.
Ships will focus on having extremely large broadsides of FTL missiles(don't be surprised to hear the I went through 1 billion missiles in a large battle.) I will be retaining ansible tech, and stealing the Chronimetric Hyperfold drive.
Oh, and we sell toaster ovens. Capable of flash frying a blue whale, in tank.

Seems a bit small actually. Works great for pirates, but what about those of us that have 15 worlds each with a population over 10 billion, as well as a few dozen colonies and a few HUNDRED outposts...
We have territory to patrol, customs to avoid contamination, trade routes to police...

Sure, Quaynar was pretty much based in old SCEF territory anyway, and the UTR, as it exists know, holds no territory that far from Earth, so Quaynar could have survived on some planet out that way under soem other government, or even independently.

Fleet concepts:
I'll be going in carrier-heavy. Fighters will be used as mobile point defense mounts, since I know how much my neighbor loves missiles. Torpedo bombers provide long-range striking power.
Carriers are backed up by heavy cruisers which emphasize heavy energy armament. At close range they should be more than a match for ships of similar class. They'll be for dissuading the enemy from gun-rushing the carriers and for slugging it out with enemy capital ships.
FTL: Ship FTL is 40K Warp. The best that can be said for it is that it works. The other major means of long range travel is through Warp gates, which allow near instantaneous gate to gate travel.

Basic fleet operations for the Union, is to use a sort of Hunter-killer attack strategy. Our primary capitalship, the Teuthis Class not only looks like a squid, but behaves likeone as well. They posses a cloak that not only defeats most sensor packages, but the very skin of the ship changes to mimic the background, so that you cant even see it. It come sout f cloak(it is energy intensive0 just long enough to fire off a few salvos and then disappears. And because we use graviti engines, so much for drive emisions(we do you a form of Ion jet propulsion to move at VERY fast sublight(again think squid)
