Rist, Gix's new guide, showed them down the dark corridors of the underhive. They twisted and turned, wrenching around in a halfhazard manner dictated by collapses and convenience of construction. The air got danker and nastier, the light dimmer. Everything seemed less and less healthy. Coughts and open sores were common. "How much further now?" Gix asked.

"We are too closhe already," Rist replied.

Petrosjko wrote:Synnove looked over the setup. "If you're planning on going up against more marines, that'll work. But you'd probably do better with a custom-made sight setup. The fabricarium could get one for you."
"It's for an employee of mine."
Mork wandered in and hefted the Lascannon with one giant paw.
"Yeah. I think he'd like a custom sight."

"Am I correct in assuming you were in the Imperial Guard?"

Her eyes swept over Mork from head to toe, noting possible vulnerable points, his reach and apparent dexterity, and a host of other details. "I'll inform them to get to work."

Eighty Arbites stood ready in full combat gear. Jolan Gix smiled. These men would do. "Adeptus Arbites. Your city, your charge was greviously attacked by heretics less than one month ago. They perished at our hands. Now we have found one of the nests of filth they breed in. We are going to go in and burn them out! We will bring the Emperor's Justice to the heretic!"

"1271st Sethian Guard," she answers. "Twelve years, two of them on Armageddon, mustered out at the rank of sergeant, one of a hundred and seventy-two remaining from the Founding."

Rist lead the kill team back down way he had come. Down through the twisting tunnels and eternal gloom of the underhive until the once again reached that occursed local deep beneath the earth.

The PsyKing opened his eyes. "Well, well." He murmured. "Someone seems to have a vendetta against me. How touching."

Saryth Forson felt the influence creep into his mind, pervasive and seductive. "Yes, Master?" He trembled.

We have company. Give them the reception they deserve.

"At once, master."

"Impressive. Your Captain is lucky to have you aboard, Sergeant."

Rist lead Gix's forces foreward. A psyker as potent in foretelling as the PsyKing would probably be expecting them, but his forces would be depleted and close quarters would favour the Arbites. Or so he hoped.

She shrugged diffidently, a shadow passing over her eyes. "A job's a job. There wasn't much room in civvy life for my skills, and I got used to living on the move."

Suddenly the floor under their rearguard morphed into a long spike that impaled him from head to toe.. Another spike shot out from the wall and pierced his abdomen, crucifying him in an unspeakably horrible fashion. Blood ran down the spikes and into the cracks on the floor.

Gix turned and banished the manifestation with his force rod, although too late to stop it from claiming victims. "Advance!" he ordered.

The blood trickled down the slope and touched a trooper's foot. He instantly immolated in a burst of Pink Fire, claiming a trooper standing next to him.

Gix blew the pink fire out with another blast of his force rod. To manifest such powers over a distance was costing the PsyKing. The question was would it cost him enough. If the Arbites took too many casualties . . . . .
Well, he would have to trust in Hethor.

The blood kept trickling, getting faster and faster. They were forced to run ahead of it.

With a flurish Gix built a barrier out of garbage using his telekinetic powers. He stood ready for it's new trick. Come on you bastard, keep it up. Burn through your powers.

As you wish.

BOOOOOOOM!

Suddenly the floor was blown out from underneath them and they were dropped to the level below; A squad of Pact troopers opened fire from prepared emplacements. They could hardly see because of the millenia-old masonry dust that had been disturbed by the explosion.

Too bad for the Pact that they were fighting Arbites. Carapace Armour and supressor shields repelled enemy fire. Executioner rounds found their targets and slew. It was brutally one sided and brief. "Advance," said Jolan Gix.

Forson listened to the brief engagement with horror. Arbites? Suddenly he felt pain course through his body.
Sloppy, Sergeant. Try again.

"I won't fail you again, My Lord."

He moved a squad of his own, corrupted Arbites up to challenge Gix.

Gix noticed a touch on his mind just before one of his Arbites, still nervous after having his friend staked to the ceiling, screamed and opened fire on his own troops. Shortly after that the corrupted Arbites, their armour and flesh sewn into one, opened fire from infront of them.

An Arbites storm squad is a nightmare to face in close quarters. Few can last against them and even fewer can best them. Sergeant Hethor D'eckor judged himself against a higher standard and Rist saw them coming. He had moments to react. That was enough.

"Krak" he yelled back as he opened fire with his plasma gun. He wasn't trying to kill. No, he was aiming at an easier target. The charged supression fields. He blew most of them apart as emptied the plasma gun's capacitors against the front ranks. Chunk! Chunk! Chunk! went the Arbites grenade launchers. Krak grenades shattered the remaining ranks and blew open flesh. Executioner rounds flew towards the corrupted Arbites. And the fallen Arbites fired back.

Hethor blew two down with his plasma pistol. His own Arbites shielded him and his refractor field deflected a stray round. Rist burned one down with a las beam to the neck. The grenade launchers fired again. Chunk! Chunk! Chunk! That broke them. Another volley of battle shotguns and Hethor's pistol finsihed them as a fighting force.

Jolan Gix had picked Rist to find the enemy. He had picked the Arbites because he expected close combat. And he had brought Hethor to make sure that he won.

Jolan Gix drew down on the rogue Arbites trooper with his plasma pistol and opened fire.

Suddenly bullets ricoched around the next bend, unneringly striking an Arbites in the neck. And another. And another.

Gix set up a telekinetic shield and hurled frag grenades back the way the attacks were coming from. It seemed the PsyKing was getting tricky, which was not a good thing.

The Frag grenades bounced off another shield the energy from the explosion was channeled into the walls and ceilings, bringing the tunnel down around them.
They were spat out on an even lower level. The tunnels were showing definate signs of Chaotic influence.

Their mysterious gunman landed near them and immediately snapped an Arbites' neck with Psi powers.
