Astaria is not a shit-hole, it is a wonderful place where obedient slaves will tend to your every which need!
Get your fill of sci-fi, science, and mockery of stupid ideas

Ya see, Shroomanian bellicosity was so legendary during the the 1st World War, that it left the impression among the more conservative Byzantine populace that some of you guys are too hedonistic for us liking.Shroom Man 777 wrote:Fuck you, slave-owning shithole man.
Shroomania is a wonderful place to be, and is funner than other wartorn crapholes, hypercapitalistic riot-ridden mephistophlebitic metropolii, or over-militant communistic/hellenistic un-fun places.
What if they try to put weapons in there? I think we all remember how quickly space was armed last time. And Japanistan taking the time to mention the roving war mongers or whatever and then saying 'oh by the way we want three satellites launched' makes me think 'weapons platforms'.PeZook wrote:On the other hands, we don't lose much here: they will launch satellites from our facility, which means our technicians and our mission control. If anything, it's better if somebody launches their comms and spy satellites from your facilities, since it's impossible for them to prevent us checking them out
It really should.SiegeTank wrote:Man, the Viintendo multiplayer network ought to be called Grapevine.
This is a problem, because the FTO's regional status puts us in a hard position, we want to help the continent, we see the FTO as the best way to complete those goals, but the FTO is full of xenophobic crazies that go against our ideas for helping the continent.Raj Ahten wrote:Well I have a damn unpleasant choice to make in regards to Indhopal's policy in the FTO. I can either try to walk the diplomatic tightrope of talking to the CSR with out giving up too much or I can play hard ball politics and act as Venezuela does towards the US (which could be fun). Only problem is such policies may alienate the Vineyards and make them leave the FTO.
Such quandaries are exactly what I wanted to get from forming the FTO
If they want to launch anything, the satellites must be subject to inspections, with questions on their intent. Every single satellite in FASTA is subject to internal audit anyhow before any launch. I don't see why we shouldn't do the same for their satellites.RogueIce wrote:What if they try to put weapons in there? I think we all remember how quickly space was armed last time. There are indeed armoured units. A few thousand tanks no less. That and I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to say "No inspections!" and sent over "security" people. Though if the Byzantines still have those armored units around there it's less of an issue.
What kind of weapons?RogueIce wrote: What if they try to put weapons in there? I think we all remember how quickly space was armed last time.
Feh, they're probably going to be comms or spy sats. Which we will know the precise orbits for, incidentally.RogueIce wrote: And Japanistan taking the time to mention the roving war mongers or whatever and then saying 'oh by the way we want three satellites launched' makes me think 'weapons platforms'.
Uh, no. Because that means they would have to force FASTA techs to work at gunpoint, pretty much, since they're the only people in JSC who actually know how to mate the sats with the R-7. We don't even need to agree to inspections: the techs will know what the satellites are for by virtue of working with them for several days. And, of course, I'm not sure how it would work: Japanistan would fly in armed soldiers...into Byzantine territorry? And cordon off space facilities?RogueIce wrote: That and I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to say "No inspections!" and sent over "security" people. With a name like Shroom Viking, I fear it might be one of Shroom's.Steve wrote:I sincerely hope that tanker was flagged to a combatant nation and not a non-combatant, Shep....
Actually. I think I know exactly who runs most of this world's shipping.Karmic Knight wrote:Though given the history of the world, every third nation may have reason to reference Shroom.
It can be arranged.Shroom Man 777 wrote:I hope the Shadows invade your nation and drive your people into the sea.
Well, that's go-go-gadget Japanistan for you, I guess.Stas Bush wrote:I can't believe that you people can still trick me into joining some calls for "peace" and "neutrality". What utter dishonest bullshit.
Well, the Brilliant Blossom system is very tentatively far off; it will take years to dig the silos, emplace the datalinks.Stas Bush wrote:I see Japanistan's still willing to arm Shepistan amidst the war, and with very modern systems nothing less.
Really? Who would that be?MKSheppard wrote:Actually. I think I know exactly who runs most of this world's shipping.Karmic Knight wrote:Though given the history of the world, every third nation may have reason to reference Shroom.
My maritime registration codes and legal codes are probably just about the same as those of any other nation.MKSheppard wrote:Veg under Astaria, and it's extremely lax flagging requirements. Hey, If you practice slavery, what's ignoring just about every maritime law to save a few pennies on your ships?
Coming from the guy who likes to do late 19th century paradises like Pendleton, that's rich.Norseman wrote:My maritime registration codes and legal codes are probably just about the same as those of any other nation.
Even if the maritime codes are crap that still won't give me a large merchant marine, because no one would receive my shipping, and I have limited trade. As I said I'd need very good reasons before I change this.MKSheppard wrote:Coming from the guy who likes to do late 19th century paradises like Pendleton, that's rich.Norseman wrote:My maritime registration codes and legal codes are probably just about the same as those of any other nation.
Considering that Libertia; one of the most shittastic places on earth, full of various intra-warlord fighting during the 1990s has 2,600 ships under it's flag consisting of fully 10% of the world's shipping TOTAL....Norseman wrote:Even if the maritime codes are crap that still won't give me a large merchant marine, because no one would receive my shipping, and I have limited trade.
