Astaria is not a shit-hole, it is a wonderful place where obedient slaves will tend to your every which need!

Hey! Simmer down you two. I don't want you ruining my conference. Once the FTO summit is over, we can begin the one in Sirnoth.

And Astaria is good for products besides slaves. We're negotiating a deal for furniture. I need a nice comfy chair. Preferably one that swivels both ways.

That reminds me, I need to make my own world market entry page.

Well I have a damn unpleasant choice to make in regards to Indhopal's policy in the FTO. I can either try to walk the diplomatic tightrope of talking to the CSR with out giving up too much or I can play hard ball politics and act as Venezuela does towards the US (which could be fun). Only problem is such policies may alienate the Vineyards and make them leave the FTO.

Such quandaries are exactly what I wanted to get from forming the FTO :D

Shroomania is a wonderful place to be, and is funner than other wartorn crapholes, hypercapitalistic riot-ridden mephistophlebitic metropolii, or over-militant communistic/hellenistic un-fun places. :P
Ya see, Shroomanian bellicosity was so legendary during the the 1st World War, that it left the impression among the more conservative Byzantine populace that some of you guys are too hedonistic for us liking.

I'm merely reflecting the impressions they have of Shroomania.

As for the Submarine, they are awaiting orders to proceed with the strike, before they do so. And why I chose a diesel sub? Because they are darn silent at low speeds. Good luck finding it. :P

What if they try to put weapons in there? I think we all remember how quickly space was armed last time. And Japanistan taking the time to mention the roving war mongers or whatever and then saying 'oh by the way we want three satellites launched' makes me think 'weapons platforms'.

That and I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to say "No inspections!" and sent over "security" people. Though if the Byzantines still have those armored units around there it's less of an issue.

This is a problem, because the FTO's regional status puts us in a hard position, we want to help the continent, we see the FTO as the best way to complete those goals, but the FTO is full of xenophobic crazies that go against our ideas for helping the continent.
I am personally willing to be the international face of the FTO, but I don't know about the other facets of my nation.

If they want to launch anything, the satellites must be subject to inspections, with questions on their intent. Every single satellite in FASTA is subject to internal audit anyhow before any launch. I don't see why we shouldn't do the same for their satellites.

There are indeed armoured units. A few thousand tanks no less.

If they so intend to send over their own security people, they have yet to clear this through the government at Constantinople.

RogueIce wrote: What if they try to put weapons in there? I think we all remember how quickly space was armed last time.
What kind of weapons?

There are no nukes so far ; RKVs are a possibility, of course, but Japanistan (and really, practically everybody) doesn't have any experience building such complicated systems which will work in space.

Furthermore, we may simply negotiate some more and limit the agreement to observation/comms satellites - since FASTA is a civilian agency and all...
RogueIce wrote: And Japanistan taking the time to mention the roving war mongers or whatever and then saying 'oh by the way we want three satellites launched' makes me think 'weapons platforms'.
Feh, they're probably going to be comms or spy sats. Which we will know the precise orbits for, incidentally.
RogueIce wrote: That and I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to say "No inspections!" and sent over "security" people. Though if the Byzantines still have those armored units around there it's less of an issue.
Uh, no. Because that means they would have to force FASTA techs to work at gunpoint, pretty much, since they're the only people in JSC who actually know how to mate the sats with the R-7. We don't even need to agree to inspections: the techs will know what the satellites are for by virtue of working with them for several days. And, of course, I'm not sure how it would work: Japanistan would fly in armed soldiers...into Byzantine territorry? And cordon off space facilities?

Really, if Japanistan truly wanted to do something horribly nefarious, they would've requested the boosters and did the launch themselves.

Alaska is canceling all further Burke Clone production, and is going to do End of Life upgrades on the Perry Class (and is looking for a nation to help install VLS tubes on the 8 Perrys that we have).

With a name like Shroom Viking, I fear it might be one of Shroom's.

Though given the history of the world, every third nation may have reason to reference Shroom.

Actually. I think I know exactly who runs most of this world's shipping.

Veg under Astaria, and it's extremely lax flagging requirements. Hey, If you practice slavery, what's ignoring just about every maritime law to save a few pennies on your ships?

I see Japanistan's still willing to arm Shepistan amidst the war, and with very modern systems nothing less.

I feel Japanistan doesn't understand that if this gets known - and it will be known easily through some recon overflights - it's "neutrality calls" will be considered bullshit.

I can't do much on OOC information now, but a break of relations with Japanistan is very much possible once this gets known. Of course, stronger relations with the MESS as a result of Japanistan's treacherous behaviour and double-speak are inevitable (that doesn't mean I'll accept even a single MESS trooper in my nation, or a MESS plane even close to SNC, I'm still wary of their mega-alliance and will be for all time probably).

I can't believe that you people can still trick me into joining some calls for "peace" and "neutrality". What utter dishonest bullshit.

Well, the Brilliant Blossom system is very tentatively far off; it will take years to dig the silos, emplace the datalinks.

Really, the only thing that Japanistan is providing is reloads; the same thing that the IRT is doing for both sides in this war.

Really? Who would that be?

Astaria's entire annual trade is 42 282 909 tons domestic, 25 723 018 tons foreign, handled by 135 ships ranging in size from 10K tonners, to handysize, to handymax with nothing larger. Value of exports $22B, value of imports $56B. Considering this is an island nation with a continental district, 105 million inhabitants, and a GNP of $750B this is a little low.

Beside few if any countries would allow an Astaria ship, or Astarian registered ship, to enter their harbours.

If you want me to change this I'd need a very good reason.

Even if the maritime codes are crap that still won't give me a large merchant marine, because no one would receive my shipping, and I have limited trade. As I said I'd need very good reasons before I change this.

Considering that Libertia; one of the most shittastic places on earth, full of various intra-warlord fighting during the 1990s has 2,600 ships under it's flag consisting of fully 10% of the world's shipping TOTAL....

Flag of Convience people, say it with me.
