The Goa'ould was strapped to a steel table, and the interrigator walked in holding one of the goa'ould interrogation devices.
"Hello there.......your going to tell us everything you know about how every bit of your technology works. Your also going to tell us eveything about your races biology, and about what Jarlath was planning when he kicked the bucket."
And if I refuse?"
"Well......." The interregtor runs the torture device acoss the metal, it leaves a scorch mark.
"Were under orders to test new goa'oul technology. I'd say this qualifies, and after it's overloaded your nervious system and killed you........then we can test that sarcofigus to bring you back to life."
His voice dropped to nearly a whisper.
"Then we get to do this....over....."
He tapped the device on the table.
"and over......"
*tap*
"And over again......how does that sound?"
".........shall we start with the staff weapons plans?"
"That sounds good."

"Alright, that's enough. Here, we'll get him to co-operate with you, just leave the room. Go on. Shoo!"

After he left the observer turned to the Goa'ould.

"Sorry about that. I'm a Monacoran observer here, and I'm allowed to offer you a deal on behalf of our government."

Pulling a piece of paper out of one of his pockets he walked to the Goa'ould and sat down.

"This is a contract. Basically how it works is that we, Monacora, will pay you a small sum for every week of work. We'll make sure you get a room and food, though quality is beyond our control. We'll also ensure your complete freedom when you leave our employ. You'd be paid to reverse engineer the goods, and we'd give you a bonus every time you show the Jardanians how one of these doohickeys work, with more money added on if you do it quickly. This sound fair to you?"

"If I refuse?"

"Well, then you're a Jardanian captive once more, we'll make sure they don't physically torture you while we're around. Living conditions will be set by them, so will food, et cetera. You have complete and total choice in the matter, mind you, just not very good options."

"You see, that's what they mean. In the same breath you say our guards are trained to shoot intruders in their military headquarters, while also saying that they shouldn't have shot the ambassador. Further more they are finding the rationale of him trying to regain composure after a heated exchange a little hard to believe considering the last words he said to our ambassador are a common parting statement. That he would cast a spell, and waste several minutes when he could merely have asked to, say, go to the bathroom or just regained his composure in the room without choosing to become invisible seems kind of... foolish to some people."

"Hmm... I see your point... and as we have said... the ambassadors actions were very foolish as you have said. That one was prone to be slightly rash at times, a good diplomat, until he felt his honor slighted."

The Prince ate another piece of lamb.

"Damn, this stuff is spicy. Always gives me a little indigestion, though the Tiki Masala doesn't, but it's well worth it mind you.

"Anyway, if you see their point you should rectify it. Speak to the press, make an open statement, let it slip during public meals, et cetera. The Parliment is going to have a lot of hot heads after the emergency elections, and unless you start addressing some of these issues they'll be looking to vent their anger over what happened here on the Arcane Empire. And if this continues, soon Parliment might be passing things with a three fourths majority agaisnt you, and that means I could do nothing to help you."

Suddenly he looked down and flipped open a small beeper device,.

"Damn. The press is coming, should be here in ten to fifteen minutes. We should get go... Actually, this would the perfect time for you to address this issue right now. When we finish up, we go outside, you address those points with the press, I make a statement of solidarity, we handle a few brief questions, and then we get on our merry way. Fair enough?"

Raistlin Nods

"I hope you dont mind, but I am rather nervous about going out into the open. far to many times in my days as a mercenary was I shot at when leaving buildings.

If it is alright with you, I have a few unarmed guards near me and my apprentice is... nearby should the worst happen he is very well trained in magic and has other talents and is in fact my legal heir.

I have been recieving disturbing reports from Ix'Agal about men and women who can supress magic over an area, this makes me very nervous when leaving even my tower, let alone a restaraunt on foreign soil. Call it paranoia, or Post traumatic Stress, it has saved my life more than once."

Binat cursed. There was a crowd, now, and cameras. They would obsucre his target. He had to move. Gathering his weapon, Binat descended into the building beneath him. He had a second angle of attack.

"I understand, don't worry, we'll keep the crowd at bay, and if worst comes to worst just teleport to the Ordino lodge like we told you, or just go into the Kitchens here, I cleared that with the owners too. Ah DAMN! Press is here early, come on, I'll get this stuff to go. Meals are not fun with the press."

After giving a quick sign to Emil he turned and put his suprisingly strong arm around Rastilin's shoulder and lead him out of the restaurant.

"Don't forget, smile for the camera, don't frown, and don't upset our press anymore than it is please."

Monacoran Space
Earth, Near Tiki Masala Restaurant

Miguel Rodriguez let out a short breath of exhilaration as his target stepped outside. Raistlin Majere, finally in the flesh. The money from this deal would go a long way, and his career would skyrocket if he pulled this off right. He steadied himself as he looked into his sight, centering his aim on the mage’s head. The cowl could be a problem, but all he needed was for the mage to look his way, just for a second, and it would all be over. Some people in his profession claimed that setting up just one, single, perfect shot was the sign of a true master, but Miguel didn’t like to take chances, and he smiled as he thought of all the reloads he had brought with him. Even if Raistlin had an army at his disposal, Miguel felt he would be ready for the task. The money he had paid out to rent the view from this building and the relative silence from the owners had been well spent, and now all that was left was the wait until the right fraction of a second to act. By this time tomorrow, he would be famous, assuming all went according to plan. He waited patiently by the window, his breathing steady, not wanting to ruin the shot.

Veithan Space
Veitha III, Capital

The president was pleased by the direction that the meeting had so far taken. The Ravenlock representatives were sharp and their requests were modest, something that he appreciated considering the relatively fresh nature of the relationship between their nations. The director’s words about his request about his tourism reservations met with a smile. ~that is more than acceptable, I would like to get that summit started as quickly as possible. The sooner that the security issues are ironed out the better for both our nations.~

~You have our best wishes for your search director, but such worlds are sought by most solar nations and finding one that is uninhabited shall be challenging. Nonetheless, it is far from impossible. We will do all we can to if not provide the location of a suitable world, then at least make sure that you focus your own search in the proper areas of space.~ He went silent for a moment, his thoughts exchanged with those of his aides as the director took a parallel path and one that had been somewhat expected by some members of his government. When the director finished speaking, he saw no reason not to consider the offer. The Ravenlock nation bore a great deal of promise, and it would be best if they were allied with their own people rather than others.

~You are quite correct in your assessment director. The galaxy as of late has become far more…dangerous than it had been years before. I am honored that you would consider taking such a step alongside our nation. I accept your proposal and look forward for the treaty to be crafted to the satisfaction of both our nations.~ and with those thoughts exchanged, the Veithan Empire stood ready to make two defensive alliances with two separate powers. It was a worthy beginning…

Veithan Space
Veitha System

The arrival of the Grand Empire task force was impossible to miss, early warning sensors hinting at their arrival before their wormholes had fully established themselves in real space. A considerable fraction of the first fleet awaited their arrival, serving as honor guard for the crown prince as he entered the heart of the Veithan Empire. Veithan space control quickly responded to the hail, vectoring the entire task force within the system before an escort could be summoned. It was a rare honor, a symbol of the trust that was slowly but surely being established between the star nations. As the Grand Empire task force gracefully made its way into the system, they were joined by elements of the first fleet. The Veithan vessels maneuvering to the sides of the Grand Empire force with confidence.

The visiting task force was escorted to orbit over Veitha III, a channel opened and coordinates granted to the crown prince. The spot which had been chosen to host the crown prince was among the best in the capital city, all the necessary arrangements had been made and president Duvol himself along with a handful of his chiefs of staff were in attendance. This meeting held particular significance since it would be the final meeting before the Veithan-Grand Empire alliance was declared to the world. The Ravenlock representatives had been informed of this meeting and had been granted access if they wished to attend. If the Ravenlock and Veithan nations were to get closer, it was logical that the Ravenlock meet the Grand Empire.

The Veithans awaited the arrival of the crown prince patiently, honor guard awaiting the arrival as the president and members of his staff talked amongst themselves. If all went well, the Veithan and Grand Empire alliance would protect both nations from belligerence while cementing their role in galactic politics. In time, perhaps their partnership could grow into a triad. Time would tell…

He flashed a pin to the political prince
"My guards will have this symbol, let them as close to me as you can, f my magic is stripped I will need human shields"

....

On the nearby roof, Dalamar was watchng and waiting, his crossbow at the ready. Then he saw it, a man descending to a lower building wit a rifle.

He crafted a minor spell that would create what amounted to the magical equivalent of a video camera, which would be compatable with the data recievers of other nations, and focussed it on the man.

Then, he cast True Strike, and took aim. Waiting for the man to ready to take his shot..

Veithan system, Veitha

The shuttle left the hangar of Balder and was accompanied by a squadron of fighters, which escorted it down to the planet.
It was a sleek, elegant craft, looking like it was made of liquid silver.
As the shuttle touched down, the fighters made some impressive maneuvring, and shot back up to their mother ships.

The hatch opened, and a dozen honour guards, clad in their midnight black dress uniforms, formed a lane.
A large man walked through it and at the end stepped aside, took the staff he carried and thumped it on the ground. The vibrations of it could be felt for hundreds of meters.
Everyone of the delegation snapped to attention.
"His Imperial Highness Crown Prine Jorn Roald Daffyd Ronalsson, Heir Primary to the Throne, Grand Duke of Alfheim, Duke of Gold Cloud."

Crown Prince Jorn, wearing a simple, yet elegant suit of white silk, revealing his perfect physique, stepped out of the shuttle. To be fair, there was not a single physical flaw in the entire Gladsheim delegation. He was followed by his personal staff, and walked towards the waiting President.

He could see some mild surprise of some of the bystanders at their look, and especially their apparent age of no more than possibly 20.

"Mr. President," he said as he came to a stop in front of him, "I am glad to be here. My mother sends her compliments."
One of his assistants stepped forward and handed him a datapad.
"As a gift from the Grand Empire," he gave it to the President. "Those are specifications for advanced environment control systems." he slightly chuckled. "We took the liberty and scanned some of your orbital stations and ships, and your planet, for possible things we might help you. And we found your systems to be...suboptimal, if you forgive me for saying so."

The man had clear shot of Raistlin, and Dalamar would not let that hapen.

As soon as the a shouldered his rifle to aim and fire, Dalamar would fire.

Temesvar, Region of Varna
Castle of the Grand Prince

When she woke, her first sensations were of warmth and quiet. There was no noise anywhere. Elanie opened her eyes. She was in a small room, the walls and ceiling made of cloth. After a moment's consideration, she decided she was actually in a bed with curtains and such around it. With a start, she realized it was completely dark, with no source of light anywhere, but she could still see perfectly.

She reached up to her face carefully, feeling at it. She had no scars, her face was normal. With a fleeting burst of anxiety--fear?--she probed her incisor with a thumb, but that too was normal. Evidently something had happened to her, but she couldn't clearly remember anything since she had arrived in Basil's office.

Elanie threw her covers off, decided that the nightgown underneath was more expensive than any article of clothing she had ever owned (barring some of the specialized suits and other apparatuses she had worn as an assassin, but those hadn't been hers per se). She opened the curtain and stepped out into a dimly lit room. Almost instantly she was approached by a grim-faced and silent orc that took up position behind her with a nightgown and tried to put it on her. Elanie would have none of it, and took it from him to do it herself. The same little dance was performed with the slippers.

"I will take you to the prince," the orc said in very low, gravelly tones. She realized that though she had seen orcs several times before, this was the first one she had ever heard to speak. The servant led her several rooms over, into a library of some kind. The room was enormous, like a gymnasium in which all the walls had been covered with books and the floor had been similarly occupied with stacks.

Elanie had never seen so many actual books. She knew them as curiosities, an inefficient way to store data; they consumed too much space and were difficult to search. At any rate, it would be difficult to find Basil among all the clutter. Unless he found her.

"You're awake," said a voice from directly above her. Elanie looked up, and saw that Basil was sitting on the railing of the second level. He dropped down lightly, like a feather.

He dismissed the orc and continued speaking, "How do you feel?"

Elanie considered it. "I feel... good. Stronger."

"You are."

"What--when did that happen?" she pressed on, "I can't remember anything."

Basil shrugged, "Of my own rebirth I must say the same, that I have no memory of it. You have spent three days in sleep or entranced, a drank of my blood. You are fully one of us. It will be at least another week before you feel hunger again. Whenever you're ready, I can begin preparing you for what you can be. For most vampires newly made, it is easier. But you are many times more powerful."

She thought about that, then pushed it out of her mind for the moment. "What's that book?"

Basil glanced down at the novel in his hand. "The Count of Monte Cristo. A story of vengeance successful. That will be my story, soon enough."

Before she could ask any questions about that, he continued, "Feel free to explore the estate. For the moment, I have study to do. Now... what time is it?"

"Six hours and seventeen minutes until dawn," Elanie said precisely, surprising herself at her knowledge.

Basil turned and walked towards one of the flights of stairs that led up to the second level. He could fly up, of course, but he was patient and traditional.

"Be sure to return to bed before that time," he instructed.

"No, your way gives him a hatred of you that ensures that he will try and slight you, the right way, our way, gives him a reward for everytime he makes something work effectively. Really besides the point now, anyway, though."

"Once, why trying to educiate an officer in the ways of politices, Stalin asked that a bird be brought to him. Stalin asked the officer how he woud keep this bird from flying away, the officer responded that he would hold onto the bird. Stalin then slowly removed all the birds feathers, so it sat shivering in the cold room. He then said to the officer "If you held the bird, it would try to escape. But look now how it is even thankfull for the warmpth of my palm.""

The officer grinned.

"Your way may work, but do not think it the only way. Oh, and if any Republic offical asks, I never said that."
