Yes, but these people also love to wax poetic about the hearty individulist who takes a rifle and defends his home against godless communism and/or the courageous soldier who performs heroic actions protecting our country, and these tend to be much more exciting to convey in a video game medium than a war between the American and Russian navies (which would be an interesting game, but not an extremely epic or exciting game, and most certainly not a Call of Duty game).

Going around with the Riot Shield and Blast Shield in MP today was a little like having the Mario invincibility music playing. Some people have a bit of a blind spot, it seems, and just keep trying to kill you through the magic perspex. Take a few guys with you and you get a fair bit of free Crowd Control XP coming in. It was just pain silly sometimes.

I've found it quite easy to take out guys using the riot shield. Just aim for their feet. Even if they're crouching there is a small gap at their feet you can aim for.

Or is irony dead on the internet?
Counter attacks at the Burger King is a staple of stupid Russian Invasion stories. It's hilarious.

You don't seem to understand how important the Whopper is to America. It is our secret weapon against the vile Russians, for if they would merely just taste one they would soon give up their vile godless communist ways. :P

I actually assumed it was some cultural reference I didn't get, since it's so prevalent. Something from Red Dawn, I guess?

I haven't seen that movie in years, but likely, considering every Soviet/Russian/generic Communist/generic Eastern European story references Red Dawn in so many ways it's not funny.

Red Dawn had mostly no name local mom and pop shops. But hell… even in that movie they had the commies attacking some of the more remote parts of the US first and with the full support of the atomic bomb. and fuck can I not spell tonight.

It actually might be a reference to this:

And a cut scene in the film which showed Russian and Cuban soldiers eating at a McDonalds.

Really I never knew that historical documentary had any cut scenes. It makes sense though since living off the land was a part of Soviet doctrine.

Edit: Wow so I just looked it up and it seems they cut that piece out because a wacko killed 21 people at a McDonald's in San Ysidro California just a couple weeks before the film was released.

I love that overweight Soviet soldier on the far right. That guy couldn't even fit into that BMD-1.

I think it also has to do with the fetishized way that Americans think about their Civil War and Revolutionary War. The idea of hastily formed militias defending Freedom against evil invaders is pure nationalist porn to Americans.

I don’t think any normal sized person fits in a BMD or BMP…. Seriously those things are absurdly absurdly cramped, crawling inside the one at Aberdeen (fuck keeping off the hinges needed the rust worn off) was insane. Course I’m not exactly short, but I’m also only skin and bones.

The crime is different. Its hacking, and the British are going to extradite him to the Americans.

And think of the outrage that would happen if the game had the UN send in peacekeepers to keep America from tearing itself apart...

But man, does it sound awesome. Russian UN peacekeepers in New York! :D

Yeah, but that was a crappy strategy game released by an obscure developer, not a massive "blockbuster" title supported by a giant ad campaign with slogans like "The most anticipated game of the decade!!!", which naturally has to bring in more sales in order to cover development and marketing costs.

By the way, does anyone else wonder how IW guys ran The Pit in 22 seconds? I've been (casually) sweating my ass off and my best time (total, with a 100% accuracy bonus of -5 seconds) is 29,5. I've been using the M9 exclusively since you can move fast while aiming and it reloads quickly (I do it on the stairs).

What are YOUR best times at The Pit? (Im running it as the SSDD SP mission because I like the "entourage" more instead of the Spec Ops mode).

I've run the pit on my own in 27s in the spec ops mission.

I presume they did it in 2 player mode, so one of you will always be sprinting while the other hits the targets, then the other one sprints and you shoot. I've only done ps3 coop, so it was bloody horrible, but I think we got 3 stars on the first go just because there were 2 of us able to spray bullets the whole time.

Just a quick question: does Afghanistan or Iraq feature in the game and if so, how much?

In the first couple of missions you're playing as an American soldier in Afghanistan.

Okay.

As an aside, other than the first couple missions in Afghanistan, there are a couple others at the very end, but they pretty much only share a place-name. This annoys me. I mean, over and above the stupid story annoying me. If a particular place is going to be used, you should use it. Not just make Generic Mission #14 in Couldbeanywhereistan. I think they missed a good chance to really bring a location to life, regardless of whether it was an Afghani village, a Scandinavian town, or even fucking NORAD.

Yeah but if they wanted to do that then they couldn’t just recycle most of the textures and objects out of the Saudi city in the first game, they’d have had to make the new game they claimed MW2 was going to be. And clearly with only hundreds of millions of dollars to work with they couldn’t do that! All the high rise buildings ruined any feeling of immersion those missions might have had. Sure, Kabul has some tall buildings but in the rest of Afghanistan the only tall things around should have been mosques.
