Save the Vell-os file. Just after the register 'cutoff' you can buy normal ships again, I think. Besides, you get a Javelin.

shit....I got screwed on the United Shipping/Auroran mission....one too many planetary stops screwed me up big time, so that I get to the target planet one day late (GAAAH!)

If I fail this mission, can I get it again, or am I just hosed?

I think all the storyline missions are one-shot. If you fail, that's it.
It really sucks on Auroran missions, since a single Drop Bear incident could take a couple -weeks- to recover from.
Which is why I do all time-critical Auroran missions ASAP and hope I don't get Drop-Beared on every damn planet I land on.

Did a little test...had to ditch my nice, stolen Aurora Cruiser (and my escort Pirate Enterprise) for a tiny-assed fighter, but I got the job done.

Damn, everything takes longer with bigger ships. Understandable, but annoying.

The Polaris arc rocks. Especially the cloaking organ. Muhahaa.

Ouch. Got a Terrapin (named it the Big Ugly Fat 'Fella") and turned down the fucking Vellos.

Once in orbit, a Feddy Carrier and a buncha Destroyers took it upon themselves to Erase me from space in 3 seconds flat!!

They had Railguns. I had a Blaster. Same results as the same scenario in a Quake 2 server playing Q2DM8, with several Rail G(+)dz playing...

If you're gonna refuse the Vell-os, it's in your best interests to buy an afterburner and burn space right after you take off. In fact, plot a course south of Alphara while you're still on-planet. Like he suggested, head for Auroran space - but watch out because the Feds WILL pursue you.

I started up two other games.

Jet Black is well on the way to becoming the Ory'hara. The Bebop is currently a Zephyr, complete with a bio-relay laser (or two? I forget), a Wraith cannon and a cloaking organ (second edition!). Hyperdrive is facilitated with the very nice Tunneling organ, which requires no slowdown. Currently working up towards a Scarab.
The entire Federation is currently very pissed off at me, and the Aurorans don't like me very much either.

El Kabong is currently a T3 (or T2, I forgot that one too), flying the Trogdor, an Arrow-class Vellos "ship" with a Flower of Spring and a Summer Bloom. This ship fucking kicks ass. I mean jeez, no inertia, energy for 14 jumps, instant hyperdrive (like the Tunneling organ, but faster) and it can stop on a dime...and I can do 15k passenger ferrys and 40k cargo runs since everybody is in awe of me. The spatial sense is very nice too since I don't need to buy maps anymore.
The Polaris don't like me and I'm currently a Bureau slave.

Anyways, I forgot that my Terrapin had a chaingun on it, so I tossed that, all 25 chains of ammo, and some food I had (the pirating by the houseless Auroran ship hadn't happened in this branch of the timeline) overboard on a planet and raised just enough money to get a solar panel. Now to get these damn mission cargoes to their destinations and find some trade routes in Aurora Space...

Nothing beats a Raven with:

2 Capacitor Pulse Lasers
6 Bio-Relay Lasers
2 200mm Railguns
2 Turreted Bio-Relay Lasers
2 Turreted Fusion Cannon
2 Stormfire CIWS Turrets

All Sigma Upgrades except the cargo->mass one
Vectored Thurst, Port n' Polish, Horizontal Booster
Four Sensor Boosts
Cloak
2 Fusion Reactors + 1 M/AM Reactor
Both Polaris Jammers + Pirate Jammer
Various armor and shield boosts



I'm considering starting a new game with the Storyline Reset plugin so that I can get the Unrelenting and then do the Polaris storyline, thus making the ultimate ship

There's a plugin that lets you buy any ship variant (provided you can buy the regular ship) - so if you get a Niki'mas Raven you get 4 relay lasers

I've seen that plugin. However, the Unrelenting with the best of both Polaris and Pirate tech would rock That thing has so much space (second only to the Heavy Weapons Pirate Carrier)

For the ultimate unregistered money-making thrill you will need:

• An United Shipping Courier license
• A Polaris ship such as a Zephyr or a Striker
• One second-edition Cloaking Device
• One Tunneling organ
• One Multi-jump organ
• One afterburner
• 5,000cr for bribe money
• A Federation that's very pissed off at you

Bribe the dockmaster, land on any Federation planet and take an UNS job. As long as you have a shipment mission you have carte blanche to land on the specified planets. Once you make the delivery, head to the Mission BBS and pick up another job.

Rinse, repeat. Watch all the little blue dots go red. Tangle with the occasional pissed-off Vell-os.
