Basing your ship to ship strategy around a cloak is a bad idea, since people will find you by sweeping space with several hundred thousand shots, and a few salvos won't kill much of anything. As for gravity based engines, they can be detected. Cloaks are useful, but only to a point.

Since magitech, Bolos galore, ten thousand kilometer spaceships, and battlestars (actually enclosing stars) have been done before, I would think mechs would work. How effectively is unknown, depending on the opposition they face.
Actually battlestars are two pieces. One, the star itself. Two, the superstructure that contains all the necessary equipment\compartment\powerplants\weaponry\etc.. needed to create the battlestar. The superstructure is then made slightly out of phase and then placed inside the star. Then the superstructure is anchored to the star itself.

I know... That is wh they are heavily armed and armored regardless of a cloak. The dont depend on it, but they are useful for hit and fade attacks, and for hiding your fleet size etc

Seems a bit small actually. Works great for pirates, but what about those of us that have 15 worlds each with a population over 10 billion, as well as a few dozen colonies and a few HUNDRED outposts...
The Alliance is the size of a large star nation, at forty major worlds.
We have territory to patrol, customs to avoid contamination, trade routes to police...
Well, we call them different things here, but...

At 40 major worlds... how do your fleet logistics work??? YOu simply dont have enough ships to patrol that area...

Alot of Unrelentings. Hell, the Empire had one ISD per forty worlds in the Official data, and no one's shown me any Canon data that proves it's higher. I've got three per forty worlds.

I wont have an OOB ready before late Tuesday, and given how few of us have reached that point I think we need to delay the start at least till then.

yes, please scale back the ships unless you plan on having them being an individually weaker ship.

I definitely can not be ready before Tuesday, and I'd prefer a bit more time than that.

It is a very, very bad idea to face an RN fleet without shields to protect you, cloak or no cloak.

Its a very bad idea to fight anyone without shields no matter how good your armor might be, since individual weapons and sensor mounts can then be shot out.

Can someone tell me how powerful Star Wars shields and weapons are at the moment? The main site hasn't been updated in a while, and the forum has varying opinions.

Just so people know, those with larger than average fleets ships will be considered portionally weaker. This is so that there's a rough balance at least starting out.

What is then "larger than average"? And what is normal?

Look at mine, phongn's, or Pablo's for an idea of the average. Essentially a limited amount of capital ships backed up with more numerous escort/patrol ships.

So, I hope I've found a reasonable numer for my navy, without having too weak ships?
If you could take a look, Id be happy.

Even worse against me since my funky etheric cannon causes massive shock effects on impact, and my reflex cannon have antimatter in the particle stream. (Of course, this can be retconn'ed if it is unacceptable).

That seems too powerful for a generally SW tech level.

Well, if it's annoying to people I'll simply take them out. Only CBs, BBs and the flag have the reflex cannon; etheric guns are on everything but can be removed.

Well I don't think I'll participate in the this STGOD. I mean, I've joined up, but won't participate until I've finished off the current ASVS STGOD storyline. I'm too engrossed in my character's battle with Halite.

I include shields when I said armor... They work while cloaked, I just cant fire weapons

My fleet seems exceptionally small.. Of course, they're also all behemoths of immense size, so being more potent than the insects buzzing around them is not a big stretch.

That doesn't balance; just one of your huge ships can wipe out large task forces without ever losing shielding and thus suffering any real damage.

I agree with Sea Skimmer to a degree, if they can shrug off whole fleets that'll majorly unbalance the game.
