Yeap, it's primed white. Its just that to get the highlights on the grey/black to show in the early stages pic, I played with the photo colors

I got into the hobby because I thought some nice Battlefleet Goithic ships would look pretty sweet next to my Babylon 5 ships. Eventually I decided to read up on what all these "WH40K" threads were and then just kind of drifted into it.

You can buy prepainted models on eBay or from professional painters. Or you can do what some local brats do and take them from unwatched display tables at the local Games Workshop.

You should try to paint at least once in your life, even if it's only to paint a model Chaos Black and then drybrush it with Boltgun Metal, the most blessed of color schemes for the dexterity-challenged.

I swung by the local store today and got roped into an intro game of 40k by one of the staff. I still dont like 4th Ed as much as my long lost 2nd Ed, but the dice gods still smile upon me. He was rather put out about the number of 6's I was rolling ;)

Anyway, I picked up some new paints, so I'll post some pictures up soon of how the repaints on my minatures come along.

Where would I be able to buy materials like:

a) Guitar Wire (or some other "tubing")

b) Castrol Super Clean

c) a good range of plasticard and modelling materials?

If someone knows store chains or locations in OC, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks.

OC??

I do know you can get all 3 at Wal-Mart, but if there isn;t a wally world near you, well.

Guitar string can be found at most music shops, check the phone book, there has to be one in your area.

CSC can be found in any auto parts store. Look for the purple bottle, there are 5 or 6 different "flavors", but you want to get the regular.

Plastic card, if there isn't a hobby shop near by, check into getting some of those FOR SALE BY OWNER signs, they are a nice thickness, easy to work with and very cheap.

Not to be mean to Lazurus, but any American player should take Lazerus' advice with a grain of salt if you plan on playing tournaments.
Interesting, I didn't know there was much of a difference. Fair enough I suppose if stuffs different across the pond, I only offer a guarantee of advice within the UK!

Azazal, great work, thats brilliant. I kinda liked that first idea storm bolter though

Second Ed was fun. They changed far too much if that in my opinion.
Close combat was long winded and became confusing when when you had multiple squads piled in together, so yes, that needed changing.
I think some of the stat changes and nerfing went too far.
Shooting seemed fine to me.
Psyker rules were not complex, no matter what GW tries to claim, although it could be very powerful, yes Mindwar, I'm talking to you.
Some of the characters were deffinately beardy.
They changed the character of my Orks, and I lost my Shokk Attack Gunn. Also unless its been changed with 4th ed, the gits have restricted my wierdboy to Feral Ork armies, which is a cheek.

Fear not, for the wait for new Ork-e-ness is not long. Well, ok kind of long, current rumor for the updaed codex is summer or fall 07. But come on now, 7 years for a between codexes isn't that long

Don't see how it matters at the minute, my models are still packed, I haven't bouoght the updates rules, and haven't even played a game since before 4th Ed was released.

If I can find a AAA battery somewhere I'll post my 2nd Ed Wazdakka Gutzmek, the most insane, over the top character out there.

I doubt it. My old chapter master ate whole squads of genestealers up in hand to hand...

Though some people kept insisting that a chapter master really ought not to take combat drugs.

Combat Drugs boosted his stats, I cant remember exactly what they did off the top of my head anymore, but it was nasty.
His chapter master skill was martial prowess, so he had weapon skill 8, he was armed with a power sword, power fist and a pair of plasma pistols on his belt so he could fire one at full power (complete with sustained fire dice) every turn.
He also packed a displacer field, which gave him a 3+ unmodifiable save against anything...and had a jump pack...

He was so beardy he could make dwarves weep.

Big Deal. Wazdakka runs around with a powerfist, in Mega Armour, on a warbike with twin linked autocannons and a BATTLECANNON strapped to the back of it, which thanks to his wargear cards, was equipped with armour piercing ammo. I also give him a kustom force field to go with the bikes kustom force field, supercharged engine, squig fuel injector, reinforced armour and granade launchers. Your chapter master may be more beardy, but wazdakka was still more OTT.

Hey, the most impressive feats of some of my models in a tournament game were with basic tactical marines. I had some of them use their krak grenades to kill Abbadon and his body guard once, and on another occasion a bolter armed marine, with a little help from the dice gods, killed a carnifex in hand to hand ;)

I will admit though that there's a three way tie for highest bodycount in a single game amonst my models.

My chapter master, my inquisitor in terminator armour and my librarian in power armour...he got teleport and iron arm against a guard army, first turn he teleported into the middle of them and just started hopping about slaughtering with a force axe and occasionally walloping a tank on the back armour while most of my army just watched the carnage ;).

Everything I've read about 2nd Edition is absolutely amusingly insane. Spending all afternoon rolling for close-combat parries, dodges, jumping off buildings, knocknig enemies into vats of acid, wargear playing cards, grinning Ork clowns pilling out of trucks with their floppy boots and hats pulled over their eyes, unleashing dozens of wacky gadgets with none of them working.

Good gravy.

Anywho, here's my own craziness: another five Marines that try to be dead-serious about pink shoulderpads and hearts:

a bit of humour

Commisar: hey, you what are you doing with my chainsword
IG #1: It's mine now, I found it in the bit's pile, besides, whose afraid of an armless commisar.
Commisar: gah, where are my arms, oooh maybe I'm going to be coverted into a yorrik like theme, or better yet use those necron phase claws, yeah, your gonna get yours.
Commisar: wait your putting on that laspistol the wrong way!, What Another Las pistol, and again the wrong way, who do you think I am Chow Yun Fat!
Commisar: very funny you, do you realize that you just converted me with two left hands?!?
IG #2: hey steve, I just found a Pulse Rifle!
IG #1: damn, some lucky git must been upgraded to a railgun.
IG #2: what are you doing with that non-Games workshop barbarian body?
IG #1: It's a scottish highlander, and it's antatomically correct, thaat should impress the Sisters of Battle.

On the topic of old style, I dug about amongst my bits box and found an old Najal Stormcaller model that I'm doing up as a librarian for my chapter.

New eldar models are coming. Was looking at the new issue of White Dwarf apparently the new War Walkers will be plastic.

Warseer has photos of the upcoming Eldar stuff for the end of the year: New Howling Banshees and Fire Dragons, Plastic War Walker, all-new plastic Dire Avengers.

Also there will be a new Wraithlord, and 'upwards of 5 aspects being redone', which does not include Spiders or Shining Spears.
Also noted on the forum:
Eldar:
- DA plastics by Jes
- New WL, WW (as seen), NO NEW VEHICLES
- Some new Aspect sculpts (not all), done by Juan Diaz on Jes designs
- Aspects are not all Elites, but spread throughout the Force Org
- Autarch sculpted by Jes, lots of mix and matching wargear, followed many paths, but not an Exarch
- Exarchs will be leaders and give bonuses to their squads of Aspects
- No Craftworld-specific lists, but main list should be felxible enough to make do

Q&A:
- Dark Eldar will be a MAJOR redo, like the Wood Elves...so probably a while away. They like the ideas and concepts, but will relaunch from whole cloth
- =][= Xenos is a while away and mioght be folded into a supplemental book (a redo of all the =][='s maybe)...the design focus is on complete army lists...not mix and match from various books. There is a lot more to speculate on here, as several question led down the army list vs. CoD-type supplement path, but I'm tired
- DA, BA, and SW will follow the BT template.
I hope that means a 4th ed Inquisitorial codex that's very inclusive of the current customization options and merely combined into one book. They're at least doing that with the SM divergent Chapters codexes.

Orks should be getting new stuff in addition to the commandoes and meks. At the very least I expect a new Nazdreg Urdgrub since he's in command of the Ork forces for Medusa V.
Wonder how it'll compare to Ghazgkull?
