Really? Why not? We see shield systems on shuttlecraft in ST. This is quite a bit larger.

SHielding yes, military grade shielding no. Not at the level of a Corvette, which are designed to survive in a warzone.

I don't find the idea of having military grade shielding on shuttle craft to be that far fetched. In several Star Trek: TNG and more interestingly Star Trek Deep Space Nine we see shuttle craft take a few hits from larger vessels and still survive. I agree that a shuttle craft would likely not have shields to the level of a corvette which is a larger and more powerful ship, but they are not exactly flying coffins either. The Maki(sp?) in DS9 possessed a fleet predominantly of attack shuttles if memory serves. I remember several episodes when a handful of shuttles attacking a large ships (typically Klingon) could give a good account of themselves. And granted, such sillyness would not directly carry over (Imagining a handful of attack shuttles doing an attack run on an Ouster Cataphract or anything equivalent makes me laugh) but the precedent is there in Star Trek. Remember, we use Star Trek to set some hard limits and inspiration not as the gospel. At least that is the way I look at things.

People do realize that shuttlecraft and runabouts were military vessels, right?

yup. I imagine there would be civilian versions of shuttle craft, but what I am talking about is the shuttle craft and runabout that Starfleet and other navies utilize.

Indeed. Military grade small craft. Which are not civilian grade. You know, not a good example to use for Oni to have a freighter with any combat power that won't be stopped by everyone.

True, but then that's why I (and anyone else who comprehends the concept of a force multiplier) have heavy bombers. No shit I'm not going to use C-420s for ship assault. :P (Boarding is another matter, but not the attack.)

is a shuttle going to have shielding on par with a small capitalship? No... a freighter is a civvie vessel, and would hve less shielding, and certainly not an anti-matter reactor

I would *think* in most nations it'd be very illegal for unlicensed ships to carry military grade equipment.

Have fun boarding a Cataphract. You might win, if you have enough troops, but casualties will be sick.

SHit even in my nation, we have a few limits, and that is that you may not park ananti-matter driven ship within blast radius of anything that could possibly be alive :P

Heck no on the first point. And yes, a freighter is civilian and is inherently limited on some regards. You could tweak one out, but you would be inherently limited by the baseline and ultimately, I think that SirNitram already pointed out the biggest problem with Oni's current ride. Possessing a M/AM reactor does not help either. Ultimately, I believe that Oni would be best served by having something far stealthier. There are times when driving a toyota corolla will get you into places that a Humvee with bullet proof windows and added armor will not.

It was an example. For a Marine boarding operation, I'd be using those transports, much like I did on that weapons smuggler back when the occupation on Ix'agal was new and you were still actively blowing shit up. I doubt I'll be trying to board a Cataphract, but that was the ship at hand.

Ah, right. Cool stuff. You write pretty good ground actions, I hope this war matures long enough for me to see Ouster Stratiotoi make war on Nashtar Republican Marines...

heh, it doesn't have to be a humvee ;)

Danielsben, it's a 2-3 day trip to the White Suns from the area around the Draconis, and proabaly almost a day to Nashtar.

Danielsben you launched fleets when I hit the White Suns. That was, in game, an HOUR ago.

Danielsben, please try to pay attention. That wasn't my territory, it was the occupation zone on Ix'agal, which I was abandoning anyway.
