I was about to suggest that actually send the money to an American friend to donate to Obama. However if word of this gets out it would be a bad result for him.

I'm pretty sure laundering money to make illegal campaign donations goes way beyond the "No Criminal Activities Discussion" line, folks.

Good point Red. Is there any legal work around we can use?

No. Nor should you. Sorry, but this really fucking irritates me. Can you imagine the shitstorm that would result from private US citizens attempting to monetarily influence foreign elections?

I guess I wasn't really thinking about it as being illegal. I just figured they didn't set up donations from international citizens because...well normally, who would give a flying fuck about another countries politics?

But I guess it must be a legal no-no. Oh well. Pity.

Exactly as much of a non-story as McCain fundraising in foreign countries this year?

Do you have evidence of such? I haven't seen anything to that effect, and they made a huge deal out of it with the Clintons and that wasn't even an election year. Not saying you're wrong, just haven't seen any evidence of that from well, anywhere.

Of course you haven't, as I said, it was a total non-story, and frankly, nothing about your posting history indicates the kind of curiousity to dig anything up.

Link Is where I got it, but as it's behind a subscription wall now, here's the relevent bit:
So special was the McCain event that the tables - $2,000 for some and $5,000 for the premium tables - sold out in about 10 minutes, according to Mark Adler, the president of the Economic Club of Canada, which put on the event.
I cannot wait to hear the excuses for this one.

Go fuck yourself you ignorant judgemental prick. You don't know shit about me. You made a claim, I asked you to provide evidence, since in the newspapers I read, and the online sites I check, nothing had been made of it. Why should I have to go digging to support your arguement? You COULD have just linked it and not been a dick, but no, that would be too civil for you. Are you capable of having a conversation without attacking someone?

You are free to consult this site's rules Re: Being A Prick. If you are conceding the point, run along, little one, since you clearly would rather throw a two year old's hissy fit than discuss the matter. Bye.

And you should consult the site's rules about providing evidence. Got something we can all read that backs up your claims?

How could he possibly be talking to me? I asked Nitram for evidence to support a claim he made, I wasn't even disagreeing with him, I simply hadn't heard it before. If it's true and can be confirmed by a source that's reliable and we can all have access to, I 1) would be bothered a great deal by it, since I don't think foreign money should be legal as campaign contributions 2) would thank him for the information. Instead he summarizes an inaccessable link, and insults me. So how exactly would I be at fault?

People around here seem to have this notion that someone asking you a question is disagreeing with you. There's no arguement to conceed Nitram, because there's no disagreement. There's literally millions of web pages to sift through, even if you use the right key words in a search, which is why I asked you where you had seen it. The irony is that you're insulting my curiosity when I'm asking you a question.

It says the exact same substance as I referenced.

Technically not donations, but obviously it's a fundraiser, that's really slimy. Like I said, I don't think foreign funds should be used, and it really bothers me that either side would do so. Especially when the Republicans made such a huge deal out of the Clintons and the Chinese. I assume it wasn't covered because legally it's not a donation or something similar, but the media should've made more than a passing mention of this.

Like I said, it was a non-story, and I honestly don't find much of a story in the idea. It's the same BS Technicality we hear alot, but it would be nice if laws were followed, especially if you were someone who campaigned alot on reforming the way money goes towards campaigns.

Jus' sayin'.

So, sorted out my problems with the card. $30 to Obama, and a shirt to boot!

Briefly going back to the original fear of the OP: There are a slew of new polls out which show McCain surging and he now has a electoral vote lead on both fivethirtyeight and electoral-vote which is like a swing of 50 or more electoral votes in just a week. Obama is losing in many of the polls in Ohio, New Mexico and Michigan (or clinging to a very small lead).

I'm still trying not to panic, but I admit I'm not doing very well. I donated to Obama again and will probably be canvasing again this weekend.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if McCain takes this election, and with a comfortable margin at that. Americans are way too susceptible to his kind of politics, and America the nation is still overall very conservative. All that "he'll raise your taxes" and "he's too liberal" talk will wear him down, as will the stupid "I have experience" crap that McCain spouts, as if quantity of experience rather than quality of judgment is the most important factor.

And some wonder why the rest of the world thinks of the American voter as idiots. I find it sad that McCain ulls his bunny out of the hat, and at once everyone rushes to kiss his feet. I practilly hae given up on the US by now, seeing as the Right had more than enough time to hammer their shit into the heads of the ones who then will blindly follow them into the abyss.

I'm honestly a bit surprised with some of the results/showings on electoral-vote. Indiana for instance, is typically a pretty solid red state, but it's showing as barely GOP at the moment. So who knows?

The South is pretty much a write-off, but if Obama can take a couple of the barely red ones, he could still swing it.

I seem to recall at least one member of congress who was married to a member of parliment's lower houses. Her maiden name was erm "Kennedy" purhaps you've heard of her? I mean if mob ties, terrorist group ties, and actively sending arms to finance foreign wars was something new. We would seriously have to look a lot harder at some of our political dynasties.

like Dole's ties to banana republics
like Kissenger's south american crimes against humanity ties.
like Bush I's ties to south american and middle east dictators

just to name a few.

I know you're right, but I'm praying to all the potential Gods of the universe that America will truly wake up. At least a significant portion of them that can vote democrat.

I think the most important thing Obama can do is be visible, and fight tooth and nail against any crap slung his way. He doesn't have to stoop to low tricks back at them, but he does has to defend himself and his party. People will generally believe him. The man has incredible charisma. I think he could see ice to the Inuit if he tried.

UK newspapers seem to think Obama is on the way out at any rate, (I'm talking about those worth reading obviously), themes like "faltering campaign", "on the back foot" and so forth feature in most articles since Palin was announced.

You yanks might as well accept it, you've got an old rich white bloke incoming, with his Hockey Mum VP to take the reins if he pops his clogs while in office.

I don't get it, how could we start slumping so quickly, and because of a trailer trash cunt like Palin? Since you're the optimist on this campaign, RedImperator, what do you think remains to be seen and what Obama should do?
