Chromtroopers, eh? That could trick the Ewoks into worshiping the 501st.

Well, Anthony Daniels himself has said that Episode 7 will be better than TSEB. If it were anybody else making the claim I'd call BS. But since it's him...I am now preparing to at least be pleasantly surprised.

Bad idea to say that. A lot of people are going to see this movie anyway, and they're probably more likely to enjoy it if they don't have absurdly high expectations.

True. Better to be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the movie rather than buy into the hype only to be disappointed later. Considering that everyone in the production team has an incentive to hype EP 7 as long as they can, it will be dangerous to trust their words for now.

In addition, none of the decisions made by JJ. and Co. seems to reassure me. There seems to be too much focus about "bringing in the original spirit back" more than anything else.

The movie has a name: The Force Awakens

Pessimist translation: "We have no creative ideas other than having more lightsabers on screen."

Optimist translation: "Lightsabers, fuck yeah!"

I am not getting that title given the timeline. I would consider that a title for a movie timed around ESB given Lukes training after so many years of the Jedi being considered an extinct psuedo urban legend with no new members in decades.

Maybe its a "Luke rebuilds the Jedi Temple" sort of thing? I hope not.

Well in the PT it was stated that the Force was not in balance and the Jedi were actually becoming weaker. There is no mention of it in the OT, but most Force Users are extinct so we don't know for certain how strong or weak they might have been. It's possible that the extinction of the Jedi and the Sith by the end of EP6 means that hardly anybody is actively using The Force so it's probably gone quiet. EP 7 could be about the resurgence of Force users and increasing turmoil in The Force as as result.

Pretty much everything I've been seeing and reading about 7 has me excited for its release, including the name, the looks and feel of the sets and props, and the flurry of rumours surrounding the plot and Luke's story arc. Looks to me like it's being done right this time. I am, as always, the eternal optimist. Hey mods? Can that be my official title? Pretty please? :angelic:

I'll just hope that it doesn't means the force is necessarily sentient and knows what it's doing.

Tbh it fits with the pulp fiction style titles the previous 6 films have.

It is not any worse or better than ANY of the previous titles. They are all pretty literal, EXCEPT The Phantom Menace.

Honestly I think "The Force Awakens" is a terrible fucking title. This is like when the rumors were saying Ep3 was going to be called "The Creeping Fear" except this time they're right.

Couple that with the new rumors that Luke Skywalker is going to be some kind of crazy space hobo, and i'm fully expecting the ST to be worse than the bad parts of the EU. With hope for the movies lost and Rebels being largely terrible, I just can't muster much interest in the Star Wars franchise anymore, outside of maybe playing TOR once and a while.

Why? Why is it a terrible title? How is it worse than A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, or Return of the Jedi. Explain WHY.

Old-timers hating on new things. It happens. It always sucks until about, eh, four or five years after the last one comes out :P I don't know, there's just something about Star Wars that tends to have this effect on fans. Not sure I've ever seen any Trekkies who hated the new stuff all that much (apart from the legitimately lousy stuff like Voyager, Enterprise, Insurrection and Nemesis), for example...

Frankly I'm not terribly impressed, but I can live with it.

It's rather simple really. The more we hate it now the more we ensure that we are well fortified for the inevitable disappointment when the work, no matter how grand fails to live up to the expectations set by our by now highly romanticized view of the original movies. The trick here, you see is to simply exterminate any and all hope or desire to even dream of anything good coming off this. That way there are no expectations to live up to and we can just watch it and have fun.

Ehh, the title rubs me the wrong way but its probably just my inner fatty nerd dribbling fan rage that the title sounds different and therefore it sucks.

I'm trying to smother that fat bastard though and be an optimist. And its working to a degree. I'll admit I'm actually excited for the new Trilogy, even if I can't say the same about the side movies or the new EU. Still the fact I'm excited about the ST is a definite good thing.

I've been a fan of Star Wars for awhile and mostly stuck with it through think and thin. However by time Disney made it so George can literally do a Scrooge McDuck swimming though money thing with the amount of money they gave him I was mostly burned out of SW. The EU was dead to me, I had despite once ridiculing them become a movie purist. Anything Star Wars that was new mostly just filled me with dread.

Now I'm probably more excited about the ST then I was for Ep1 to come out. Time will tell whether it will live up to its hype or be like Episode 1 a enjoyable movie if you don't full fanboy or be closer to the now dead EU and what was wrong with it.

There is no relatable message in the title.
  • EP 1 - The Phantom Menace
A threat is hidden behind the problems the heroes face.
  • EP 2 - Attack of the Clones
Clones attack. Either action movie about clone armies or mystery thriller about people being replace by clones.
  • EP 3 - Revenge of the Sith
Some people called the Sith get revenge on someone.
  • EP 4 - A New Hope
A time of no hope ends and a threat that might topple the Empire arises.
  • EP 5 - The Empire strikes back
The Empire is successful in repelling the heroes.
  • EP 6 - The Return of the Jedi
Jedi return after being reduced to next to nothing.
What exactly does it mean when an energy field wakes up?

The title just doesn't give the "Oh, interesting" feeling the others do, because they can be related to experience in real life;
things happening without being seen, sudden attacks, getting revenge, gaining hope, suffering setbacks and return of forgotten knowledge.

Just want to point out that "The Force Awakens" does not have to reference "The Force" - it could be a wordplay about a new bad force arising and threatening the galaxy (like some military force or something else)

Could be but the title would be really bad wordplay.
"The Force" is usually the descriptor for the source of powers the Jedi/Sith use, so anyone familiar with the movies would expect it to refer to the energy field.

Using the same word for some unseen enemy... just bad wordplay.

Oh i didn't say it was good just that it was possible.. kind of like the Zahn book "Dark Force Rising" in where a fleet of 200 Dreadnoughts had the nickname "Dark Force".. get it nudge nudge.. Zahn must have felt so clever when he came up with that.

I've been thinking about what I'd want, and (looking at the franchise as a whole, KOTOR to present) what with the past thousand years of galactic history being about a never ending war between space wizards, and now...NOW, FINALLY, all the space wizards are gone, people of the galaxy can get back to being normal and not worry about being caught up in galactic wars brought on by space wizards.

So I'd love to see the movie be about the collective galaxy going "Fuck no, inquisition!" on any and all Force users as a pre-emptive measure to keep the cycle from starting over, hence why Luke becomes a hermit instead of a galactic hero, etc., etc., until shit happens and shit needs to un-happen with the application of fucking lightsabers.

That was generally my thoughts as well. It would work rather well if the main new characters are of the offspring of main characters who are forced to hide their potential as Jedi, as Leia was also forced to do. Luke for his part went the Yoda route and went into hiding. It would be interesting if Han were to take the Obi-Wan role and die early in the story, thus forcing his daughter(I presume) to take on the mantle of Jedi to avenge his death. I know Harrison Ford was rather hesitant to play Han Solo again and had already said that he felt that Han should have died in ROTJ.

The other element that could be interesting here is if both the Jedi and new Sith are both extremely weak, as would be the case with your idea. So far we have seen Sith in power in the OT and Jedi in power in the PT. It would be interesting in the sequel trilogy(as a side note the initialism ST doesn't really work on this site) if we saw neither in power.

I remember Mike made a comment about why the Thrawn trilogy worked well back in 2006:
Darth Wong wrote:Despite some personal beefs I have with his choices, Zahn's approach was interesting; his universe was more tactile, de-mythologized, but it took place after the fall of the Empire and its mood was appropriate. It had an aura of lost glory, faded power, and brilliant mortals trying to carry on where demigods had once trodden. That's why the Thrawn character works, despite certain bits of character wankery.
The sense of the galaxy as protrayed in Zahn's books would work well. In which we see a setting of almost exclusively normal humans and aliens.

He did the same thing with The Last Command where it referred to both Mara's last command from the Emperor and Thrawn's last command in the military sense.
