Grozny promptly bursts through the door of the old mans house and hurries off to the east, looking for Sir Edward

You travel east, out of town for about an hour when you spot a man obviously waiting for you ahead. He is dressed in dingy old mail and moves toward you.

"I am Sir Edward, knight-errant of His Majesty the King. You are Grozny?" The young man is obviously not pleased with the prospect of having to deal with a dwarf but he seems to be reasonable. "I believe I have some work for you..."

You head north for some time. It grows late, and the moon is full in the sky. By your estimation, you have covered approximately a third of the distance.

You sneak around back and are ready to take action against the creature you know to be around the corner...

I'd best find somewhere to stop for the night - somewhere safe and secluded, since I'm traveling alone at the moment. I'll go the rest of the way tomorrow.

You find a nice, comfortable cave and are on your way by morning.

*Superfriends-style scene-change sequence*

It is evening, and you believe you have reached the area your map shows the prison to be located. All you see in the area are some trees and the occasional large rock.

Suddenly, you hear something stumble behind you...

I edge around the corner, noticing that the lizard-creature has his back turned. Still careful not to make a sound, I come up from behind, then suddenly grab him and hold my short sword against his throat: close, but not so close as to break the skin.

"Walk into the house," I hiss at him. "Now."

The now face the grotesque sight of a mostly decayed corpse staggering towards you, tatters of armor hanging limply off its yellowed bones.

Christine lets go with a vicious curse and fires a crossbow bolt through the skeleton's head.

20+4 = 24 (no critical chance on a skeleton)
8 damage

Being a skeleton, however, means that the bolt did little more than penetrate bone, leaving it only moderately damaged. [1/2 damage from slashing/piercing]

It closes the distance and brings its sword down... poorly.

[1+0=1, Dex check 14+1=15]

I curse again as the sword glances off my leather armor, and hit the skeleton with the butt of my crossbow (as a club).

17+0 to hit = 17
5+0 damage = 5

[-4 to hit with improvised weapon, 13, still hits]

The blow destroys the remaining magical force animating the undead creature and it collapses into a pile of bone.

The only thing of potential value is the short sword it was using.

[100 XP]

I toe the short sword away from the decaying pile of bones and give it a careful look over to see if anything is unusual about it.

Appraise skill: 15 (roll) + 4 (skill) + 2 (INT bonus) = 21.

Sighing with more than a hint of annoyance in his tone, Toren says "This is the second time someone has tried to force me to go somewhere. this time, however, I wish to enter. Lead the way."

I relax slightly, but my sword remains at the lizardman's throat as we begin walking. "That's not something I hear every day," I reply. "Although if you are sincere, I hope you will pardon my suspicions." We reach the damaged front door and step inside; with everyone else's weapons pointed at the new arrival, I withdraw my sword and point at the goblin corpses with it. "We have much to be worried about, obviously."

You find nothing unusual about the pile of bones.

I roll a reaction roll toward the Lizard...

17+charisma mod... The lizardman is my new friend.

I put down my bow and greet him with enthusiasm.

" Hello, it is a pleasure to meet you. "

"Indeed it does. You had goblins." he says, kicking one of the corpses ratehr forcefully. "I had strange men...unnatural men. They tried to lead me somewhere, rather forcefully. When I defended myself from their attacks, they dissapeared. At least I drew the filthy zealot's blood before he vanished. Something is happening in this place. Something that cannot be good for those such as us."

Another robed man walks calmly to your cell.

"You, beast, your food," he says, indicating the unappetizing platter of sludge he brought with him. He does not make any move to put it through the slot in the door, however.

"It is the same throughout my travels. My kind, elves, dwarves, treefolk...all over, I have seen it happen. I believe something like it is happening here as well--though a much more organized effort then the angry mods of ignorant pesants I've encountered so far in my traveles.

Pardon me, I have yet to introduce myself: I am Toren."
