You'll find yourself a maritime power as well, methinks.

i know. I plan on having twelve regiments to defend my land, and the rest will go into my navy.

I wasn't even planning on being a major maritime power, and here's Thirdfain on AIM telling me that I'll be one. Hey, no complaints.

hey, are we using actual geography of the region? or can we make up a few things as well?

like a mountain range incompassing the extior of the italian penisula for example?

Any changes to geography must be run by Hotfoot and I. Having your place suddenyl become an unbreakable fortress will NOT FLY.

Hey, everyone! This game just popped up out of nowhere, and I'm in. I'm stepping outside the normal paradigm and playing as the Forsaken from Wheel of Time. Already cleared it with Thirdfain. I'll have an OOB up soon so you know exactly what you're up against.

Is it just me, or are all the former unification powers getting Grand Empires...

Not this one, and they are pretty clearly arrayed against one another. I suspect we'll see a fine game indeed.

Latest proto-political map.

The base map file has been cleaned up and I will be ready to start doing actual borders, marking terrain, major cities, towns, and so forth tomorrow.

Well, if and when Sea Skimmer ratifies for North Africa, you can just change the color...

I take it I am orange? And terrain wise are we modern or more medieval?

Imp, you are the dark blood red, next to poland.

Thirdfain, could you make a key for the map?

Terrain wise, you have a small coastal plain to your west. Beginning right about at the corner where your border turns east, a mountain range begins, going southeast, then south. And you would be the dark red.

Next to Anarchia. I'm just at the same spot as Poland.

A rough Key:
Dark Green is the Three Gods (Straha)
Light Red is Confederation of Andalus (Pablo)
Magenta is Republic of Karsinia (Alyrium)
Light Gray is Cyprus (Stormtrooper)
Blue Green is the WolGars (Frigid)
Yellow is Caliphon (Thirdfain)
Dark Gray is Kingdom of Anarchia (Beowulf)
Medium Gray is Ethereal Realm of Masotan(Stormbringer)
Light Blue is Kingdom of Gondor (Agent Fisher)
Brown is Norman Empire (InnocentBystander)
Light Green is the Kingdom of Bjorgheim (Raxmei)
Dark Blue is Eire-Pict Royal Confederation (Rogue 9)
Dark Red is Scolia(Overlord)

Remaining to be explained is:
Light Brown and Tan(Bugsby)
Orange(Darthdavid)

Note: I'm color blind, so the colors might be a bit off...

The map is Hotfoot's deal.

I've mapped out the terrain for my nation. I've given it to Thirdfain for approval and he said it looks good. Pending Hotfoot's approval, this is what my terrain looks like.

Thank you. Thirdfain's mentioning of Latvia/Lith made me think I was the more eastern of the two Baltic regions. I am quite happy either way.

Rogue 9 wrote: Light cav can easily stay out of heavy cavalry's reach. It isn't like modern main battle tanks against LAVs. Much as I'm loathe to say it, seeing how I plan on depending on heavy cavalry for my elite units, European knights against an equal number of mounted Mongolian raiders would get their asses handed to them. They simply couldn't get a lance into the raiders, and in the meanwhile they'd start resembling pincushions.
Light cavalry is onyl superior to heavy caliery if its very light and consists of very good bowmen. If more convetional light cavalry tries to fight or stand its ground against heavy it goes down. And most cavalry is light in the sence of spears and sowards rather then vast arrays of anti armor bowmen.
on the subject of calavary, what would the riders of Rohan be rated at?

I plan on using a couple regiments in armor like that of Theodens, not mail, as my quick reaction force.
People tend to place them as medium weight, which tends not to be that useful a level since you can't run easily nor fight against the best heavies.
