Wow. I'm in the middle of the biggest meat grinder I've ever played. Chaos is entrenched so well that I've been slowly pushing back the front for five fucking hours. They're able to continuously reinforce their line because they have all kinds of strategic points behind the front that I have them bottled up in, but I can't divert men to disrupt their economy without risking them breaking free. I've killed dozens of Bloodthirsters, probably racked up thousands of deaths on each side, and it's only the third mission of my Guard campaign.

I've pushed into their base at least eight times, only to have my force crushed by the missile turrets they've got, and each time I've barely managed to scramble a new force in time to reestablish the front back where I started. I've lost count of the Baneblades that I've had shot out from under me. I don't know how I'm going to end this one; being Guard, I have no jump units to flank them and hardly any raiding capability.

Use an assassin scope to get some visuals and then shake their earth?

I've decided to divert artillery and one squad of Guardsmen to try and disrupt their requisition flow, but first I need to get them out of the entrance to my base and back into the entry path to theirs. Instead of advancing into their base, I'm going to try and hold the line until I can wreck their economy.

And I've been using Earthshakers; the goal is HQ destruction and they have six different HQs in their base, and build more every time I get there.

Just hold the line then. Fortify and all that shit until they can't move forward (and neither can you). Just bombard them indefinitely and every once in a while push, until eventually you break them.

Well, I got all the relics. No more Bloodthirsters for them. My troops are at their base entrance now, have 'em bottled up for good if I can just keep the line reinforced, which has been easy enough. Now I just need to smash their economy and maybe I can take them in one last push.

yeah chaos loves them missile turrents.

since I've crushed their base using both Da boyz, and using The Children of the Stars. Ok technique (use stealth units (ok for you guard it's those assassins) now use your long range guns to shatter one of their stat points at a time, and inch forwar building more command centers and turrets as you go, as soon as you build a new CC move more guard with plasma into it. that should eventually strangle the guy.

oh those missile turrets are just as stupid as 'zerkers they will attack the CLOSEST thing.. so play range games like I do. Send a squad of infantry a half a second befemore other things keep the unit reinforcing, and camp some of those heavy weapon's teams where they can do some good, then turtle them forward.

Taking out the Tau stronghold was fun. Took a long time, and I went through three Monoliths and god knows how many normal troops, but it was so satisfying to hear the Tau commander say "All is lost" and retreat :D

I strapped Veil of Darkness on my Lord and teleported him into their base. And then did the occasional Essence of Nightbringer and Flayed Ones deepstrike spam, and managed to assassinate the ethereal without ever driving my normal troops up that gauntlet. :P

I just crushed the gauntlet with a massive wave of Space Marines. When I take it with the Guard, I intend to do a lot of shattering of their skies. :P

Got this game last night. Played tastes of the Tau, Ork and IG campaigns. And it is schweeeeeeet. Flash Gitz especially. Oh my fucking god. And Kroot... Well, I definitely know which troops choice to take against Orks, that's for sure. :D

If you're nice and slow against the orks, you don't need more then a few squads of firewarriors and the honor guard. Kroot are pretty there if you decide to rush.

As I thought. The trash-talk in Space Marines vs. Chaos is great.
"We do not fear you heretic."

"I should hope not, Captain. Fearless foes are much more satisfying."

"The only satisfaction we shall give you is a quick death."

"And now you tire me, Captain. I've heard far too much empty boasting already."

"Come on then if you think our boasts are empty!"

"Patience, Captain. I will kill you all in good time."
"We fight to the last man brothers! This fortress shall not fall!"

"Such inspiring courage! Perhaps we'll mount your corpse on a golden chair and make an idol of you as well."
And with the death of the Space Marines, I have taken Kronus. For the Chaos storyline, Chaos used Kronus as a bastion as they spread throughout the Segmentum Ultima, driving towards Holy Terra.

As for the movie at the end, the first world is obviously Kronus, so I'm guessing that the battle is going to be spreading.

Ah, Kronus has been purged of Chaos; only the foul xenos remain. Mass Asscannons = dead chaos, and I suspect it will be even more useful against the Eldar and Tau.

Orks vs Marines is great too:

Thule: Your green tide stops here, Ork! You’ll find only death here.

Gorgutz: I likes that kind ‘a talk, humie. I still gotz room on me stick fer yer ‘ead.

Thule: And I have room for you under my boot, alien.

Thus far I've completed the Tau, Necron, Chaos, Eldar, and Space Marine campaigns in that order. I gotta say, the Space Marine ending has been the most interesting. Spoilers of endings follow. I'll finish the Imperial Guard campaign tonight or tomorrow.

The Tau put Guardsmen in "reeducation" camps, wherein their eaten by the giant dinosaur thing. Then leave everyone else out to starve.

The Necrons purge the planet of all life, down to the microscopic level. Then attack everyone around them.

Chaos uses the planet as a staging point for another Black Crusade.

The Eldar just leave after blasting everything to hell, and Kronus drops into an age of anarchy.

The Space Marines wind up grabbing a shitload of Chaotic artifacts, and grab every piece of matter from the Avatar of Khaine's dead body. They ship said artifacts back to their Librarium. For "safe destruction". After "careful cataloging and study". The ending animation says that the darkest time in the chapter's history came after the Kronus campaign. My guess? Horus Heresy in miniature.

Hey, you guys got the 4th Ed Codex: Eldar early. We still have to wait 5 days (officially) for it.

I still love the bit with the Necrons when you assault the chaos stronghold and the chaos leader flubs his 'devour your souls rant' :D

Has anyone actually had to defend their home base yet? I've intentionally left myself wide open for the Necrons and they're not doing a damned thing about it; I'm curious at this point.

I've had a few SP's burnt, but aside from that, I've had nothing except for my first mission with Tau when the Warlord decided to pay me a visit in the first minute (literally!) of the game. Apparently the Shas'o with no extra bitz, just a Burst Cannon, is capable of almost killing a similarly basic Warlord...

No, no, I meant your stronghold. You know, the province that causes you to lose the game if it's taken?

Ah. Nope. That'd kind of, you know, kill the entire game, even if you've managed to kick everybody else's asses? :P
