My mlitary ships are smaller than those of other powers, and... how do you figure?
In the US we use private companies to build our military vessels. And ships are constructed using the same equipment(spells n my case) a hull is a hull. Hell, it isnt even a matter of learning how to put in weapons systems, our merchant marine is armed. And we contract civ shipyards by bid to build our military vessells whenever we go on a war footing(as I would think most nations do) it really shouldnt be a significant drain. Hell, the longest part of ship constuction is carving runes all over the ship and constructing the mythallar which powers it. And the crew of a civilian shipyard carves the same runes, a military ship just has more of them(they provide the shields and communications ec etc etc.

And when I say Civilian shipyards, I am talking corporate shipyards. The equivalent of Boeing ar Lockeed(sp) factories for planes...

They're either Military shipyards, dedicated to the construction of Military ships (in which case, they would be busy cranking out your new build orders) or they are civilian shipyards, dedicated to pumping out civilian ships.
You don't seem to understand that the civilian contractors who build military hardware have dedicated factories for that sort of thing. A factory can't churn out a 747 one day and a F-22 the next. It just doesn't work like that.
Also, concerning armed merchant marines, whoop dee doo. There's a
huge difference between a couple of .50 caliber mounts to discourage small time pirates and 16" gun mounts designed to combat capital ships.

meh *shrug*
It is going to take a while regardless, and I hadent had any new ships slated for construction. Rpairs will take about a month or 2 and the cnstruction of new ships around 4 months for the smaller ships, a 9 months to a year for the heavies.
I should be back up to original fleet capacity within 1.5-1.8 years

Sweet fancy jesus! My post.... it's an Out Of Character post, and it's not in the game thread! WOW!
Hmm, mmm. If only ALL the out of charater posts could go in the Out of Charater thread! Then the game thread wouldn't get cluttered!

Oh, and I'm sure that the Atlanteans would have SOME method of communicating- why not a text message or something? They aren't stupid.

You know, this IS DS9 tech....universal translators should exist.

"I'll tell you how we got them. An Atlantean Tech called us up to make sure that the machine met our specifications. Another hour of contacts revealed that YOU had been doing this on our behalf.
Ok straha I think that falls under godmodding first of all Why would one of the Atlantian techs call earth if the ships are being built to Arcane specs.
second and more important HECTORI IS THE ONLY ATLANTIAN THAT CAN SPEAK ENGLISH, ALL COMMUNICATION WITH HUMANS GOES THROUGH HIM AND NO ONE ELSE, AND THAT WAS CLEARLY STATED.

Notwhen their vocal range is far outside the range of human ears. There would be no baseline for the translation.
Their alphabet has 169 characters.

LOL. So you guys were planning on launching this airheaded scheme without informing Earth first? That's ridiculous.

Let's see... because the ships are for... oh yes that's right EARTH!!!!!!!!!
Let's see... who is incharge of healing Earth.... oh yes that's right ME!!!!!
So, instead of calling the people who will actually use the technology, operate it, and fix it your tech would call someone who doesn't even have access to electricity?

Bullshit. Universal translators are MACHINES, not people. In case you're not aware of modern technology, we can EASILY detect and record sounds beyond the human range of hearing.

That is not counting sharp and flat accent marks and the fact that all long range mesages are sent through enhanced psychic links, from what I understand about universal translators is they dont decode thought, only speech.

So your written language requires a telepathic link? Your publishing industry must be shit then.

Wow. So you can't communicate with other powers? Because unless oyu have some conventional hypercomms, you'll have a hard time engaging in meaningful trade or diplomatic relations.
Besides, your argument is still stupid. You'dd have to tell Straha EVENTUALLY. Better your idea rejected now than after you've wasted piles of money on it.

Wait...
You can send messages psychiclly in a range of light years?

short range transmissions (in system) are verbal long range is psychic which is tech boosted by encoding it into a long range data transmission which can then be recieved by on the other end and translated back to thought and loaded into the reciever's brain.

We were going to resent these subs as a gift... but you know... the monocorans are spiteful ingrates.

It's a ridiculous, unworkable plan. Why would the Monacorans want it? It's going over their heads to foist it on them, and frankly, it's rude as hell politically.

Spiteful ingrates? Their world was just raped, OF COURSE they are going to be overly cautious of Greek bearing gifts unnanounced.
You basically showed up to the White House post 9-11 with a ticking mystery box and got offended when you got shown the bomb disposal room and chewed out by the Secret Service.

They cant expect to heal ther homeworld without outside help. We just wanted to give them a gift, ad we have not even gotten them under constuction. They were intended to be finished in a few years...

Also, Aly, it just hit me.
Violating the laws of Thermodynamics is definatley not within the DS9 tech limit, now is it?
