Belial at this point might have just enough sense to turn over his weapon to the humans, and then die of humiliation as we laugh at whatever he's cooking up.

If we aren't laughing, it's because we've found it dangerous enough to kill all the personnel behind it.

Here's an external shot from Wikipedia - it's turret mounted, so you can't see the action, but it does give you a nice idea of scale.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RARDEN

Unlike many cannon that size, the Rarden uses clips, not a belt-feed. This might be something of a disadvantage when you're in a vehicle, but it's VERY nice if you're infantry built on the scale of a baldrick.

Reminds me of the Bubblegum Crisis game books I have - the heroes use power suits, but as energy weapons aren't quite effective enough (in that setting), they simply carry cut-down artillery pieces.

Inaccurate at long ranges, perhaps, but the sheer firepower's nice.

Damn ImageShack is being gay right now. :(
So I guess I have to use MySpace.

Somebody, clear away that trash.

Need to make it better though. Not fitting enough.

You might want to change the cannon from belt-fed to clip-fed.

If I can find my BGC dual CD, maybe I can find an appropriate image of a weapon that size for you to take inspiration from.

I'll go look.

Ed.

EDIT:

Yeah, found it. If this works, here comes a (relatively) small image. I tried to keep it under 64K. Uploading to photobucket as I type. Heavily cropped, but it does give a size perspective.

Here goes nothing..

Image

Good, it worked.

Yeah, that's a motorcycle that it's mounted on. So that give you an idea of size.

No problem. 11 years as a military armorer, and fascinated by guns since I was knee high to a grasshopper.

Granted, I've been out of the game for a long time now, but I still dabble now and then.

Check my previous post, I added the image to it as a postscript. Hope it helps give you a general idea - it's a (mostly) fictional weapon, but it was sketched as a solution to a similar problem - what sort of side-arm do you provide to something that's twice the size of an average human being?

Oh, btw, not my art, I disclaim it, it's clipped from a marvelous bit sketched by Kenichi Sonoda. HIS copyright, not mine. And to Artmic and Youmex studios.

Hrm... speaking of Yaweh, I did think the previous chapter's scene of him being enraged at being sued by humanity and being excommunicated, and Micheal and Jesus out doing blackjack and hookers (and whores) in Las Vegas, to be a bit too... slapsticky? Silly, yeah.

But then again, Micheal and the Whores probably explains the existence of Nephilim.

Had another small-arms related 'moment'.

PRC's People's Army man-portable 35mm grenade launcher.

Take a look here:

http://world.guns.ru/grenade/gl25-e.htm

Further evolution of the design:

http://world.guns.ru/grenade/gl34-e.htm

And on a side note, I can still remember the days when, in rural America, you could have rifles and shotguns racked in the rear window of your pickup truck. So I can see the American gun control laws being amended to include THESE as an "open carry" weapon:

Yeah, it's real. There's a video of one being test-fired on YouTube. It would really ruin a percy's day.

Damn Satan was one tough bastard, two anti-ship missiles to completely kill him
Well, he DID lead the rebellion against Yahweh. That's not an easy thing to do. And according to some beliefs, he was Michael's equal before the rebellion. That implies quite a bit of personal power.

Not that it did him much good against a pair of cruise missiles.

Actually, I think he was refered to as the strongest of all the Angels, the most highest and perfect. Still though, that is impressive, especially seeing as how he was healing form the first missile seconds after being hit.

The implication here that he could survive a direct hit from an anti-ship missile in the first place is alone pretty damn impressive.

The good news is that it does set an upper limit for how tough the Greater Demons and Heralds are, as well as gives us a clue as to how durable the tougher Angels are.

Just out of curiosity, Stuart...

Where's the carrier Enterprise?

(After all, Hell IS being explored - it seems geekily appropriate. And I'm sure that Captain Pierre Kirk, USA Ret. would get a laugh out of it. I had the pleasure of corresponding with him once, and brought up the now-legendary story about what happened to him in Vietnam vis-a-vi Star Trek...)

I was wondering if ANYONE would believe that there is a life AFTER death...the bodies in hell can only heal at a very fast rate, it does not mean you can avoid a second death.

So, I guess some people is bound to believe in life after their first death.

Well, in many places that's still legal... whether it's a good idea or not is debatable, primarily because doing that screams "steal me!" to any would-be thieves. I'd like to eventually keep a rifle in my car (maybe an M44?), but I'd have to hide it and I wouldn't want it to be very expensive.

Not sure about the legalities of carrying weapons classified as "destructive devices" by the BATFE, but openly carrying long guns without a license is legal in many states.

I expect that by now, the BATF is probably being quietly told by President Bush to shut up, sit down, concentrate on catching moonshiners, and leave the gunrunners alone.

The more guns in the hands of the people, the more dead percys.

If that causes a problem later on (ie, irked voters expressing their ire with bullets, not ballots), the human governments will deal with it later on.

Right now, the most important thing is to make certain there IS a later on. And the best way to do that is to make certain as many angels die as possible. Then to make certain Yahweh joins them. As painfully as possible.

Frankly, it's a lousy idea to encourage massive weapons proliferation here. What you want is better-armed police, not a populace armed to the teeth with heavy weapons.

Look at Africa: every time large shipments of arms go in, there's a spike in tribal violence and civil wars. Or Mexico, where more than 80% of their criminal gang weapons come from the US. You dump shitloads of weapons into an area, and violence follows. The fact is that demon/angel incursions are few in number, whereas the potential consequences of a large-scale individual arms buildup are much more severe and widespread.

I know Americans are in love with sound-bite slogans like "guns don't kill people, people kill people", but that's exactly the sort of moronic black/white false dichotomy that gets them into all kinds of trouble with economic, health, education, and criminal policies. It doesn't have to be one extreme or the other; one does not have to believe that guns are either completely responsible or completely unrelated to the rate of violence in a society.

Looks like the war in Hell is pretty much over. Heaven is not going to like the result methinks.
That's some rifle Abigor has; with the Warriors converting to 40mm CTA there should be plenty of spare RARDENs about.

Almost missed this chapter, Stu. Again I marvel at your output when compared to us lesser mortals.

The point of that section was to set up just how different heaven is from hell. It's not just a round two of much the same sort of battle, Heaven is a very different, much more complex and much more dangerous opponent. That little bit shows some of the key differences; for example that the Angels are much more aware of Earth's strengths and weaknesses than Satan was, that they have their own plans and objectives and that the rigid control from the top isn't there. That rigid, top-down control more than any other single factor is what killed Hell as a fighting force. Hell was ruled by fear, as soon as fear of Satan was replaced by a greater fear, the whole structure started coming apart at the seams.

Heaven's an entirely different proposition entirely and a much more dangerous one. Just one key difference; there's no fifth column of humans inside Heaven, no vast store of recruits waiting toe be armed and turn against their enslavers. So Michael is treating Yahweh with carefully-concealed but none the less amused contempt. That makes him much more dangerous, not less. He doesn't have to think about what might happen if an idea of his goes sour; he simply doesn't tell Yahweh what he's up to nor does he tell Yahweh if it fails.

That section was only slapstick on the surface, lurking underneath the humor was some very dark foreshadowing

I suppose it might be possible to use some of the Armies of Hell now that they have either surrendered, or come over to our side. However IMVHO Humanity has not yet fully gotten into its stride, or reached its full military, or industrial capability.
