Don't know. But despite all the complaints one hears about the high price and lack of good titles, it is expected that the units will be sold out on the day of release.

With, what, less than a tenth of the total number of units they had for the PS2's release? If they had ten TIMES the number of units they had at the PS2's release, or even the same number, I'd be impressed. Let's face it, the fact that resellers can make thousands reselling a handful of units indicates that Sony could have one launch title and a console that sells at $1200 and STILL sell the number of units they set for release.Ravencrow wrote:Don't know. No; GameStop presold all their PS3's, you won't get a thing.InnocentBystander wrote:So what does just buying one require; waiting in line all night in front of a gamestop?
I went to try to find out and talked to the guys in line at Wal-Mart that have been there for three days now.Stark wrote:I want someone to explain to me where the demand for PS3 is coming from. It's got 5 crap launch titles. I don't know of any game coming out for it that's awesome. It's a million fucking dollars. What's the hook? Why does anyone care? I can see the interest from eBay scalpers, but what's the point of buying a PS3 right now?

But none of those franchises are releasing games in 2006...weemadando wrote:Sony fanwhores who are obsessed with certain franchises.Stark wrote:I want someone to explain to me where the demand for PS3 is coming from. I don't know how you can call Shadow of the Colossus a franchise when it's only been one game.Xisiqomelir wrote:Particularly:weemadando wrote:Sony fanwhores who are obsessed with certain franchises.Stark wrote:I want someone to explain to me where the demand for PS3 is coming from. The fighting game industry has been dying a death by inches for 15 years now. When it comes to 3D fighters, you don't have a lot of options.Stark wrote:People WANT to play Tekken? Are they mentally ill?
My Tekken hierarchy:Stark wrote:Well, at least it's more than 'zomg teh titties'. But it's been rubbish since 4.
Smash Bros. is really much more 2D than 3D.Xisiqomelir wrote:Spanky/DP: I'll say "series" instead of "franchise", then.

DOA: Trash
MK: Trash
Tekken: Mass-market
VF: Hard
Smash: Cartoony
EDIT, left out:
SC: Buggy
Mass-market is better than nothing, and Tekken does at least have some semblance of depth and technical quality.
I personally have no problem, but there exists a significant minority that seems to think that it is somehow infantile or emasculating to play such a game. These people missed out on Star Fox 64 because it had animals, and missed out on Zelda games because they hate elves.Molyneux wrote:And what's wrong with cartoony??
