With, what, less than a tenth of the total number of units they had for the PS2's release? If they had ten TIMES the number of units they had at the PS2's release, or even the same number, I'd be impressed. Let's face it, the fact that resellers can make thousands reselling a handful of units indicates that Sony could have one launch title and a console that sells at $1200 and STILL sell the number of units they set for release.

For you guys talking about the PS3 selling out; FYI, Dreamcast launched with more units and also sold out on day one, but the launch day was plagued with reports of hardware and software problems.

Camp out in front of a Wal-Mart or Best Buy all night (Best Buy is getting the bulk of PS3 shipments, 26 per store).

I went to try to find out and talked to the guys in line at Wal-Mart that have been there for three days now.

They started spouting about how the Cell processor is the most amazing thing on the planet and a billion times more powerful than anything else, and how Blu-ray is so amazing, and it's the pinnacle of modern entertainment, and blah blah blah.

One scruffy looking guy with a beard and long hair that looked like a hobo also told me that from his 35 years of experience as a computer technition, Macs suck because they use proprietary Mac hard drives (ROFL) that cost ten times more to replace and are nearly impossible to and are much slower. He also told me that his $3000 dual Opteron system could outperform a quad 3 GHz Xeon system. And he's unemployed.

I avoided an arguement since I figured I might end up camping with these guys and will need them to hold my place during bathroom breaks, so I didn't call them on the Cell and Blu-ray obsession or Macs.

Nobody named a game they wanted.

It's probably too late now, but you need to call up every single game store in a major city to even conceivably find one. And even then, you're probably screwed to do it this late on.

The above is what my brother did to get a guaranteed pre-ordered system (a Wii in his case, although I tried to egg him into getting a PS3).

Specifically, Shadow of the Colossus is a prequel to Ico.

But two cultish games is hardly a franchise, wonderful games they may be. Not in comparison to MGS, GTA, or Final Fantasy...

The fighting game industry has been dying a death by inches for 15 years now. When it comes to 3D fighters, you don't have a lot of options.

Mass-market is better than nothing, and Tekken does at least have some semblance of depth and technical quality.

I personally have no problem, but there exists a significant minority that seems to think that it is somehow infantile or emasculating to play such a game. These people missed out on Star Fox 64 because it had animals, and missed out on Zelda games because they hate elves.
