You unlock all the factions once you finish the game right? Or do you have to wait for a mod?

Edit: found a way to mod it, but Flandria isn't in it :(

So white_rabbit, did you hack that file to get to play all the playable factions, or did you finish it as a Catholic one first Smile
I finished it as England, just call me High King baby!

Close race with the Danish mind, but english steel carried the day.

I think it was probably a bit of an edge that I came back from a crusade with a huge posse of Horse arches though....

Does the game support 800x600 resolution or is it minimum 1024x768 like in the demo?

I ask because I reckon I can play at 800x600 with shadows on at a playable rate, my system can only handle 1024x768 with shadows off which looks rather like I'm controlling a horde of vampires.

According to the manual:
- The Papal States cannot be wiped out, ever. If they lose thei rlast settlement, the Catholic Church will see out a new home for the Papacy, and will even ask Catholic factions to grant them a region. Obviously, that will have a massive posotive effect with that faction's relations with the Pope and the Papal states.

- Attacking the Papal States is almost certain to bring the wrath of all the Catholic factions upon you... and there are a lot of them, so think twice about attacking the Papal States as an enemy.

Right now I have united all of modern France and Flanders, and got a little dirth town in the middle east after a succesfull crusade. I wonder how long I can keep it tough, faction reports say Egypt is one of the more powerfull factions and are royally pissed.

Accepted the peace deal from the Englisch (for now). I think they're still busy with Scotland while I myself have multiple fronts on the south (Portugal & Spain) and east (Holy Roman Empire & Milan). Attacks from the south are sporadic at best and the easely defendable terrain is playing in my cards.
The east is a bit harder. The HRO is vast and keeps sending hordes of low quality fodder to my borders. What's really annoying is that they've planted a good spy in one of my castles and he's opening the castle gates every time it's under attack.
I got a cool mission offer from one of the HRE heirs to assassinate his father, which will make him king and an alliance between us. Pity my assassin is lacking the skills.

Milan is something completely different. What they lack in numbers, they make up for quality (crossbow spammage, superiour cavaly). They only have their capital left but still seem to have a decent income and a big standing army with troops superiour to my own so now and then, they manage to recapture Genua and hold it for a few turns. I'm now building up a new army to deal them a final blow, so I can deal with the south.

Oh and inquisitors: :finger:

edit: mental note - hire some mercs next time

I have conquered Rome (as english), but they still has Acre. When my army marched into Rome we simply hade a new Pope (from one of my allies) installed and the war and my excommunication ended and everyone was happy.

The game will be released in the U.S. tomorrow, and I'll be picking up a copy for sure. I remember back at E3 2006 hearing that 10,000 characters can be displayed on screen at once - did that number make it to the final version of the game?

Well Milan is finally out of the picture. I took a long and bloody battle which I lost but I managed to kill both their king and his last son. Sadly, the city joined the Papal states rather than becoming a rebel city.

Oh well, putting my attention to Spain and Portugal right now and rushing my expension in the Middle East. I can now train knight hospitaliers and just discovered le gunpowdeur so I can build bombardiers.

Speaking of bombardiers, they are pretty damn useless when defending cities or castles since you can't put them on walls. What I did was putting my spearmen a bit more behind the gates/wall openings, to have massed groups of enemies their flanks open for my bombardier line of fire. Mass bowling ensued.

I'm playing as the English first to properly unlock all the other playable factions (because I'm a perfectionist) and just had my first battle using Longbowmen, taking over Dublin (Rebels).

The idiots had no walls, so they just sat there in a massive clump getting peppered by 240 men with Longbows (I play on huge unit size).

After my men totally ran out of ammo, I sent in my Gallogiachs, who I had recruited as mercenaries that very term for the precise purpose of sending them against the Irish.

Victoly.

I'd post a screenshot, but Imageshack is down.

Holy shit!

The Black Death in Medieval 1: Should have just left it's name as 'that thing that's going round'.

The Black Death in Medieval 2: Is called the Black Death because the germs hired ninjasto kill half the people in Europe.

I went from making 11k per turn to losing 10k. I had to disband half my armies just to make to stay out of the overdraft. Oh, and a load of peasents died, but that's not that important. What's important is that i went from being the richest faction and having the biggest army to being poorer than a peon and defended by a bunch of untrained twerps 'cos those damn knights are fecking greedy.

I'm gonna run out and grab it during lunch. Then I'll endure the longest afternoon and commute ever and hopefully squeeze in an hour's worth of play before bed tonight.
