I don't believe in ghosts, but my friend claims to have seen them and has presented detailed accounts of her sightings.

Sadly, Half-Life's engine has not been ported to Linux, so I'm assuming you can't play any of the excellent horror mods like They Hunger or Heart of Evil.Darth Wong wrote:I ordinarily don't believe in ghosts, but thanks to Darkstar, I'm starting to believe in the Undead.

It all depends on the undead in question. You have vampires, who are quite cultured (aside from a little issue with bloodsucking). You also have zombies, who have no feelings and can function with key parts of their bodies (for a normal human) removed. I'm of the opinion that Wong is associating DarkStar with a zombie.Durandal wrote:Associating the undead with DarkStar is a bit cruel, don't you think? They have feelings too, you know.

Hey, that's insulting the nice zombies, like Reg Shoe, for instance! Zombies can't help that they got killed! Cut 'em a break. More like one the little bugs you encounter in the tunnels that scamper around and die when you step on them. Crushing them is fun at frst, but after a while you get bored of it and decide to fight human adversaries instead.Crayz9000 wrote:I think I'd rate him at around the level of a Half-Life headcrabGrandMasterTerwynn wrote:Hey, that's insulting the nice zombies, like Reg Shoe, for instance! I don't know about the majority, However I do know some places have a very BAD feeling to them, I figure ghosts are real in the Jungian Collective unconcious/Synchronicity. The energy left behind that can be percieved by others.

I think it's more a function of architecture/appearance and local folklore affecting your perceptions. No one has ever detected any of this "energy" in any empirical, objective manner. The Yosemite Bear wrote:I don't know about the majority, However I do know some places have a very BAD feeling to them, I figure ghosts are real in the Jungian Collective unconcious/Synchronicity. This is where I have a problem with the claim that ghosts are energy. Wouldn't if have to be something physical anyway? As far as I understand energy is nothing more than a concept i.e the ability to do work and not an actual substance or a thing. Some ghost hunters say it is IR or some other exotic form of energy and the only "proof" they have is weird readings on some kind of Air Ion sniffer, EM device, or pictures.Darth Wong wrote:I think it's more a function of architecture/appearance and local folklore affecting your perceptions. I have no rational, objective, logical basis to believe ghosts exist. I've been to lots of places where there are tails of hauntings, been present during, and I cannot say that ghosts exist with any sort of backing.
That being said, ghosts are one of my irrational little beliefs, possibly spawned from the fact I don't wanna decompose. That and the little girl's ghost in my apartment keeps moving the toys.
EDIT: Oh yes, I forgot. Ghosts cannot be energy because they don't move at c. They can't be mass because there is no discernable drop in mass after death. So unless we want to try making a third batch of 'stuff' to explain them, there's another problem.

Well, I don't know if anybody else has one of these, but I have a possesed manican. Do you know about those little wooden dolls that artists use by posing them? Well, I have one, and everytime I woke up it would be pointing at me. Unnerving and disturbing. I locked him up in my safe for a few days, and when I took him out(I decided it's a he)he had his arms on his waist like he had been waiting for me. As of yet he is still locked up in my closet.

Energy is real. Not all of it is useful, but it is far more than a simple concept. Water doesn't just heat up on its own, now does it?
If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say that an air ion sniffer would be a device which looks for ions in the air. If ghosts were EM phenomena, then their presence might ionize the air around them due to EM radiation. Some ghost hunters say it is IR or some other exotic form of energy and the only "proof" they have is weird readings on some kind of Air Ion sniffer, EM device, or pictures.

Well, I guess the ghost hunters could claim that ghosts possess very small amounts of mass, and we don't observe a decrease immediately upon death due to error in measurement, but when you have to resort to calculated error to back up your claims, they're pretty much worthless anyway.SirNitram wrote:EDIT: Oh yes, I forgot.
