I believe the reason Lucas released TPM on DVD/VHS was because of all the bootleg copies floating arround.

Personally I think GL should be banned from directing anymore Star Wars films...the only one he got right on his own was ANH...either that or he should get rid of his 'yes men' & hire some one who'l turn around & tell him his ideas suck...which will hopefully help him to stream line his 'vision'

Don't forget that he released AOTC on DVD (which was also heavily pirated).
But, following that logic, he should already have released the classic trilogy on DVD, since it's been bootlegged for years. In fact, if you go on ebay right now, you can buy a full DVD or VCD set!
I think he just wants to milk it as long as its worth. The theory back in the day was that he was just being peculiar in his own peculiar way... and perhaps his studio(s) fell for the Divx fiasco and he was leary of the DVD format to begin with.
