It would be badass if someone did a proper remake of UFO with modern technology.

Maybe someday when I get a bit better at programming...

It would be EXTREMELY cool if someone just improved the damn graphics and added some more human weapons.

I'd be perfectly satisfied with JA2 level graphics and cool character models (clad in black, body armor, helmets, tactical flashlights strung uder the barrels of their weapons, etc)

Plus good grenade mechanics (eg. you should be able to throw a grenade around a corner) and maybe some real armored vehicles, and thermal viewers, and air support, and cool radio messages from your team during tactical combat, and...

Whew. I got to get back to writing my X-Com fic, excuse me ;)

I'd be perfectly happy with another X-Com game that is just as good as Apocolypse. And it has to have the real time option. No going back to turn based for me!

I can live with X-com graphics, as long as the gameplay is there. A remake with a good man to man combat engine would be a bit hit in my book. I would replace the autocannon with regular squad level machine gun.

UFO Aftermath has a spelling error in the title, and doesn't have base management. While the former is forgivable, the latter is not. I refuse to play an X-Com game without base management.

Why? Base management is nothing but tedium IMO. What's fun about it?

Ah, you see, it's the businessman in me speaking again ;)

But seriously - every time I played one of the X-Com games I quickly got bored with endless streams of tactical combat and liked the break of some strategic planning. I always like to have some control over the way your troops are supplied and supported on the field.

To be honest, cool though it was, the real time mode in Apocalypse made the game far too easy.....toxiguns fired fast enough you had to try pretty damn hard to let the aliens hit you and once you got the personal teleporters the game was so easy it wasnt funny...
Equip a guy with 3 teleporters and a pile of vortex bombs/explosives/grenades/anything that goes BOOM!

1.Pause
2.Teleport into the general area of the aliens....
3. Use a second teleport to land right beside them....
4. Drop all your explosives
5. Use your final teleport to retreat to a safe staging point
6. Finally, unpause and laugh.

I much prefered the skill involved in carefully moving your team, sweeping and clearing buildings....

I ended up using Civil War-style "firing line" tactics: back your guys into a dead end or other choke point, and let the aliens simply walk into you (literal) rain of bullets. Aliens with boomeroids, dimension missiles, and vortex mines were too rare to offset the advantage of a tightly-packed deathtrap.
While you could do similar things in X-Com: UFO Defense, it wasn't nearly as effective, and you still had to actually sweep an area to kill all the baddies.

Why not just play it on turn-based like it was meant to be played?

It died a slow death in the changeovers between microprose - hasbro etc....it just sort of fell through the cracks....

Without meaning to highjack the topic, are there any plans for another Syndicate game...

Id love to see it updated...

Aye, I remeber when things had gameplay...back in the good old days...and you could get a whole program on a 5 1/4" floppy....those were the days

Nope Bullfrog now appears to be the theme park company

Syndicate owned as well. I wasn't as much of a fan of the sequel but the original blew my socks off when I first played it.
