Women in Star Wars Are Portrayed as Fundamentally Weak.
This makes me think that whoever is accusing SW of this hasn't actually watched any of the films.

I'm pretty sure I saw Leia throttling the fuck out of a giant slobbering "male" slave lord in ROTJ, never mind the rest of the films.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say this stems from the plot of ANH - the classic "rescue the princess from the dark fortress" theme, where a helpless woman sits around waiting for a Manly Man to save her. When I first saw ANH, I always thought Leia grabbing the blaster and taking charge of her own rescue torpedoed that idea nicely, but I guess I misunderstood :roll:

There's a lot of criticism to level against SW, but I really don't think this is it. Yes, Padmé death and the lack of a real female lead in the prequels suck, but them being "fundamentally weak" is just grasping at straws.
