I actually like some of those wacky antics and ideas, but only if they're tempered with more serious drama and main characters.

Apart from shaky-cam, I rather like some of the space battles I've seen from NBSG. The ships just seem more solid and the impacts more realistic when they hit (this was also the feel in ROTS, but on a lesser scale). Problem is, I keep super-imposing the Executor over the Pegasus in my mind whenever I watch the Battle of New Caprica scenes. :P

The Clones were created by Man.

They rebelled..

They evolved..

They look..

And feel..

Mandalorian.

And they have a plan.

.... had to do it.

Sounds gritty. I like.

Not too crazy about Lucas directing, (disliked the prequels,) but the series idea appeals to me, as does some nBSG-esqe grittiness, and the story not being about the Skywalkers. Heck, maybe they could even get Ron Moore or David Eick to write/direct once Galactica ends... (In my dreams...)

One thing has been bugging me however, why doesn't Lucas just acquire the rights to the X-Wing Series from Stackpole and Allston? Plenty of good stories and characters there, as well as nice and occasionally funny, dialogue, (Wraith squadron, especially.) Fighter combat, commando raids,

perhaps even starting with some backstory on Wedge Antillies...

THAT would be interesting.

Though you have to admit, the sheer irony of having the new Star Wars be a knock-off of Battlestar Galactica is pretty impressive.

I'm all for a live action series but no way do I want to watch 12 over wanked fighter pilots take down the might of the Imperial fleet on a weekly basis

Have you even read the X-wing novel series?

I'll admit Rogue Squadron can get a tad wankish at times, but the Wraith Squadron books are pure gold.

And Ysanne Isard would make one hell of a villain...

I'm sorry, I enjoy watching neoBSG, but I would be pretty pissed off if a new Star Wars production decided to ape it. Real honest-to-Buck space opera is just about dead these days anyway, and I don't see any call for pissing all over everyone who still enjoys it by driving a big emo dildo straight up the ass of Star Wars.

The lawsuits back for the original BSG vs. Starwars? Crazy stuff. Apparently Star Wars owned the blaster shot or some-such...that's why the BSG lasers were flash shots. Among others...:D

If they want a dark and gritty feel, then I think it could be done well, assuming the focus would be on the Imperial Armed Forces ensuring a 'peaceful' transition from the Republic into the Empire.
